As he walks her down the hallway in the hospital, he thinks of all the ways he could have been better. He thinks of all the ways he could have made life easier He thinks of all the ways he could have treated her How he always said he needed her And yet the only time she saw it was in his sleep When he was in trouble too deep For even her to comprehend He thinks he feels remorse However he’s never tried to apologize He’s never actually lied; just never admitted to the consequences of truth. She is there because of him Because of his sudden drinking whim Because of the bruises down her face Because only now does her disgrace Come on the radar in his eyes Whatever happens now Is different from how it could have been If not for the sudden drinking whim
