I listened to her say the words that i would never be able to say,
 he was the object of the love that i craved.
she looked at him with the same affectionate eyes that i gazed,
he was the one hearing: "for the rest of my days".

I agree with them all.  Never happened to me but I directed a wedding where a fellow like described above stood out side the church door weeping.  Ushers wouldn't let him in.

This poem is SEEMINGLY simple and straight forward. But underneath it are rivers of meaning. The protagonist (you?) is brave taking this risk of being set back in sadness, but then appreciating her new affections. I find myself wondering how I would have felt or behaved in a similar circumstance. I think one of the charms of being a poet is having readers appreciate your experience, pain, or joy - never knowing what tributary of your river someone will cut reading your poem.
