You checked off all my boxes with a dash,
and I smiled at the list knowing that.
But there was more you did, more not on my list,
You looked at me as if you wanted a kiss.
You made me cry happy tears,
made me laugh,
you wrapped me in your arms like a warm bath.
We never want to say goodnight,
but we do, because we have to- and that’s alright.
I cried again because what if one day,
instead of goodnight it’s goodbye.
What if then I really cry?
I love you. Is what I thought, what I knew.
I’m a poet, of course I want to tell you.
I can’t wrap you up in a poem,
or say how exactly I feel-
but I love you -that’s what feels real.

I wrote this a while back... it's my favorite of the 5 (so far, at least) poems that I've written about my boyfriend. I shared this one with him after we (finally) told each other that we love, well- each other.
This poem makes me cry almost every time I read it.
