Imagine a bird so free
it wouldn’t even notice someone clipped its wings.
It would still dream of flying for weeks.
Imagine a tree so tall
it stood with pride above all.
Even when it had shed all of its leaves,
it would still dream of giving shade to little kids.
Imagine a boy so small
he would play with his ball,
and even after his ball got stuck up the tree,
he would still climb and keep falling,
and dreamed of breaking it free.
Hope has never left its presence
in the absence of action.
Maybe action itself is a catalyst of hope,
but what lies dire is when these natural examples
give up and accept the reality.
That’s when they would break away from their mold.
Disappointed, the bird would sing until its last breath.
The tree would frown until it was half bent.
The boy would move on
as the ball deflated back into the horizon.
Is this the reality we want to preach
to people hungry for some answers?
Maybe hope is all they have
and wish to hold on to,
and realize that ignorance is bliss,
because the truth could break the very thing
they thought they belonged to.
