i’m leaving this town
like leaving a conversation
unfinished
words hang
between buildings
and i pretend not to hear them
i’m leaving this town
but it grips the edge of my shirt
as if it knows there’s something i never finished saying
i leave half my heart behind
and carry the rest
in the shape of worry
i let the distance gather what fell apart
just to let me breathe
so I don’t drown
i let the lamps stay lit tonight
on roads that remember my way home
so someday
i can return
and when that time comes
let me be brave enough
to face the day
