Suffocating, foaming, festering memories purr at me Taunting me haunting me with each move onward the fading of breath gasping Begging, screaming, pleading To inhale Yet chained My captor, Time takes pleasure in tears Laps them up in a crystallized glass Sipping on the past He dances on the pounding of my chest playing recklessly in step Pattering with delicate sadism He licks at my throat toying with me, Making game of me, fuming his breath in whispering tendrils In memorial of my air. I claw at my neck Slashes of trial Ripping of cords Time holds me While life sits on the edge Watching in fascination Seeing from afar Life watches Sits on the edge Time teaches me Punishes me Time knows he’ll win Life knows I’ll lose Death a late guest Flashes lightly before my eyes Time whispers its last lesson breathe the fog sip the poison sit with us learn to love absence of breath Life applauds Death bows Time sips as the rich aromas prance his lungs in a finale That begs no encore
