Forlorn and forgotten, our mast shattered and rotten,
Victims of Spiritual SIDS, we are the GATE kids.
The path slathered with weeds from their dastardly deeds,
Growth was cut short while most were but seeds,
Minds clearly forsaken, whilst innocence taken,
Kidnapped and shaken, we are the GATE kids.
Shrouded mystique, curiosity piqued,
While outcome is bleak and our bodies left weak,
Those entrusted to teach us were venomous wraiths,
Concealing their malice through suits and a smile,
Parents oblivious all the while, we are the GATE kids.
Adrift are the children whose mirth has set sail,
Eons ago, sadness swept through the veil,
Settling in bones, piercing through hearts,
The darkness has leapt onto each new start,
Torn asunder is intellectual wonder,
Doubt creasing the brow as we bask in our sins,
We are the GATE kids.
A breeze licked your face from the doors slammed shut,
Qualifications are worthless to gatekeeper schmucks,
They've received the memo; your career has been demoed,
Stalkers abound, there's lookers around,
They pantomime actions and siren the sound,
Perhaps we are crazy, perhaps we are not,
Could all that we've done in this life be for nought?
Gaslit to the hilt, paranoia full tilt,
Tender egos shall wilt; we are the GATE kids.

This is a poem based on personal experience, having been in the GATE program as a child and suffering a lifetime of consequences.
