On the Sabbath God Sabbath
The command to rest a shadow
A cessation of earthly works
Today, as Everyday, is Sabbath
A return to Eden: Adam restored
For the Sabbath was made for Adam
And the Son of Adam the Gardener
Sabbath is the work in Eden
So we too on Sabbath, Sabbath

Without bloatedness and drunkenness
Without limits of time, space, and matter
Without gluttony, nor appetite, nor necessity
You shall feed for the purest pleasures
On food angels will discard their wings for
And be mortal men for a sight and a whiff
Thus man was made eating and drinking
The unseen universal sign of communion

Walking on air in surreal lightness
Light ordinary but strangely bright
Sight, all detailed and instantaneous
Breath, aromatic and flavourful
The constant Presence present
An affirmation, certainty more certain
And on waters you shall walk
And mountains heed your voice
And all beasts find rest in you
In reverence to the Son of Man
The Lord of the Sabbath in his place

Given and giver known but a gift unacceptable
Offensive, repulsive, and stumbling, but good
Unknown and perhaps unknowable, how can it be?
Not for delightful display of pleasure and gain
But ignored, hidden, forgotten, most shameful
And only bewilderment, pain, anger, and questions
But in flesh, the Voice understands, and speaks
Saying, "You are beloved," but alas only anguish!
How can it be? How can it be!? How can love be!
So strange unlike any believed in the world
As thorns stripped of the roses more desired
Or robbed and exiled a kindness most exalted
Who prays for an incomprehensible gift returned
Who rather a soulmate's help than hear the Voice
And mortal comforts than seeing fearsome eternity
But as breathe compelled so too acceptance
Of an irrevocable gift most uncommonly good
Inescapably tearful, trembling, and bowed, walk
Thus acknowledged by a freedom most feared
And to sacrifice as Abraham ascended Moriah
A thanksgiving most honoured and accepted

Searching to and fro, frantic for knowledge
Not for its sake but for ours in others' eyes
A furious horseman riding hard, driven
By ancient whisper, resonant in our being
A wake of destruction: death and progress
Blind to mind's eyes sight of mysteries
Is a recent gift poured out on all man

The greater the subtlety the sharper the sword to be.
The more thorough and dispersed the mixing,
The more natural and justified as in familial bonds,
The greater the violence and opposition in separation.
Thus a sword, a most sharp sword, to part the dawn—
Separating Day from Night, Light from Dark, and Truth from Truth

The fourth day, the sun shines, a shadow of unseen Light
Of light and dark, day and night, revealed and yet hidden
That oceans are opaque and deepest earth yet hides
And know that eyes deceives and fear is wisdom
The fourth day, of mercy, now, and judgement to come
Adam lived, evenings and mornings, mercy daily recalled
Longsuffering for the oppressed and patience for their oppressors
A clarion call, of atonement and fulfillment, of now and not yet
The fourth day, time, times, and half a time, middle of seven
As seven is the middle of twelve, which is a hidden seven
Revealing Creation days and Natural days, wheel within wheel
As sun and moon, with same light, mark days in days
The fourth day, of revelation, of foreshadows and foreshadowings
Of mutual witnesses twice repeated, a fourfold symmetry
Of four horns and craftsmen, of four Jerusalems and Armageddons
Three have passed, and the last to echo the beginning

Inscribed in the palms of his hands
Fortified and secured in the highest
A soul wearied by lies and injustices
And prideful boasts' unceasing sneers
In pain and utter terror now watch
The wind blows, the flood sweeps
And the fire burns, and the wicked pray
To be raptured from their sins and filth
But mocked and prayers turned to curses
And from embittered hearts vile evil flows
Against each other in mutual annihilation
Thus cleansed and good inherits the Earth

Why is life measured in years and not living?
Long years and truly life, uncorrelated
Age and wealth, mere numbers, not significance
Whereas transcendence and becoming is
The old was yesterday, the new reborn daily
More than the sum of all you were, and more
Every day a new world, walked with new eyes
With ancient soul, and even more ancient spirit
Seeing from the end to the beginning, and beyond
Insatiable but there is yet sleep, and tomorrow
Today, a life fully lived, and ancient evermore aged
Eternal life beckons, and tomorrow We walk, again
And We walk not alone, but as One
The unseen truly real not that seen

I'm in awe of the hands that move
I run freely, carelessly from sight to sight
Without coherence without deliberations
Yet in an instance, perfection coalesce
Wondrous beauty without intent crafted
Yet I see all of myself in all its facets
A gift of grace, of grace upon grace
The ecstasy of ecstasies, the joy of joys
