Leaves begin to leave
The branches of thriving trees
Whisking Summer away
As a person lifts their spouse
Into their new life together
Changing the course
Of what we thought
Would go on
Forever.

She smells of sandalwood and jasmine
Of quiet suffering,
Numbed by fake happiness
She talks of a darker future,
And never sees a brighter one
She lies through her teeth
Seldom hearing her own truth
She drinks tea with honey to soothe her mind
To calm her thoughts
Pickling rinds
Of happy memories
She burns a candle
The light that shines
The light that makes space
For the smell of amber to fight
Its way into her soul
A presence, in this night of
Absolute nothing
To procure feeling
To procure something

Red shoes touch green grass
Little legs crouch in the dirt
Small hands pick past
The wind blows up her skirt
Flowers bloom in nearby fields
Weeds shoot up between them
4 leaf clovers don’t seem real
Because she’s never seen them
The breeze makes the oak tree rustle
Its branches tremble and shake
The road behind the patches bustle
The man next door rakes
She’s often called a useless rover
Longing to find something unique
She likes to climb and step all over
In the hat her mother once called chic
She wipes away a lock of hair
Shuffling past all the normal weeds
She finds a leaf with a tear
She blows away some seeds
She never found a 4 leaf clover, see
She had to settle for just three

Demons, demons in your hair
Demons, demons are right there
Demons, demons, everywhere
The little blue one shields your eyes
The big purple one pounds your head
The little red one whispers lies
The big black one wants you dead
Demons, demons taunt you so
Demons, demons are your home
Demons, demons cause you woe
You might remember
The tears of sadness
You might remember
The pain and anguish
Those demons like to tell you things
Those demons like to make you swing
Those demons, they know everything

The bright fairy lights
Twinkle above the patio
On this dark night
Of this summer breeze
And cicadas in trees
Meeting your paralyzing gaze
As we lay under the beauty of this place
As you take my hand
And hold it to your heart
I don’t even want to land,
I’m flying so high
You embrace me
Taste me
Try not to waste me
Or this precious time we share
Up here, floating in thin air

Untouched
Pure
A child
No sense of evil
Her wings lift her
The clouds that call
The light that shines
The wind that whispers
She reaches the point where the sky fades
Where darkness begins
She reaches for the sun
Her soul, a shadow missing its light
She begs
She pleads
She cries
Forever released
Into the night
Where angels die
