I believe in sound and mind, / And I only seek comfort and appreciation
In front of me lie a dead bird. He was once a bright yellow Now he is covered in red blood. Smashed into the dark pavement, silent like the night. He is cold and innocent. I began to compare myself to him. He used to glow with beautiful yellow feathers and huge blue eyes. Now he is decimated. The blood hides his beauty. I used to shine, they said. I used to poses a beauty, not physically, but mentally. I used to smile with no resistance and walk with no fear. Now I am pale. I am broken and uneasy. I am not who I once was. I stared at the bird for a little while. I began to wonder about death. "Death." I announced quietly. I wonder what death feels like. I wonder what happens after. These questions haunted my mind daily. Maybe I could trade the bird places I began to think. That bird has a purpose, unlike me. I began to walk. I feel worthless. I mean, I am worthless.

The Bird
The phone rings in the late night Heart heavy, soul weak Conscious says avoid the call until daylight But with desperate need her voice began to speak With creeping feet and a hopeful heart The sorry girl ran to his car Young and reckless smiling in the dark The two travel to the nearest bar No words be said, no thoughts be shared Cold drinks have become enough Palm to palm, eye to eye Searching for something other than a lie One, two, three, and four Hearts become empty and the beer becomes warm A love like this is something unknown But they enjoy it too much to let it get old He takes her to his car and he touches her face No time for practice he's started the game Clothes fall off at rapid pace Screams begin to echo like a lion being tamed Hot, sweaty, and satisfied he goes Leaving her alone, in her ripped apart clothes She sits on the floor with her heart bleeding out Another night full of life ending with doubt
