I remember when my mother told me I was very well spoken She said "keep it up and you'll be a white mans token" Everyday at school people told me I spoke white Since when does speaking right mean speaking white? They told me I wasn't average The blacks said I acted lavish But they don't understand.... My ancestors didn't learn to read for me not to speak My ancestors took a stand so we could take a seat But, no one had to take a stand They just felt it was there duty Once again, I am PROPER not SNOOTY So Stop stereotyping African American beauty

Not an Average Black girl
Now that I've awaken I realize the steps that I've taken I feel as if I'm forsaken My faith has been shaken Maybe I'm mistaken My mind is now vacant I need someone to partaken My heart isn't meant for breakin' My feelings have overtaken Now I know this is a nightmare from which I was never awaken.

Nightmare
I think as I feel I hope my wound will heel Love is but a disease Until one is deceased If you feel my pain Let it be rinsed by the rain When you see the dove do not fight the love Fall into my arms Where love is always warm
