a rush of thoughts
wordless, unspeakable, crazed
simply raw emotion
one flowing into the next
mixing and clashing
a mass, a mess of thoughts
shot through with faces, colors, noise
imagination stemming from the past
branching into endless possibility
hopes and fears entwine
as the mind attempts to predict the future
a whirlwind
that only unconsciousness can slow

it is dark and I am alone
no one can hear me
see me
this room used to be full
of light
of people
of energy
but then the shadows crept in
through the seams of reality
the guests departed
the lights dim
and I am wrapped in darkness
no one can hear me scream
cry, hurt
rage
no one can find me
I'm suffocating in this darkness
crowded by thoughts
but completely alone

Why can't I speak
words of gold, provoking thought
words that settle in the mind
words that are right.
I choke on perfect words
they twist and distort
until no longer beautiful
mundane. simple. plain.
My tongue stops the poetry of thought
silver, liquid and lyrical
turns choppy, harsh
the ears wince.
I want a tongue of silver
but all I have is lead.
Or the words tumble out
like a river overflowing its banks
uncontrolled, messy, meaningless
I want people to listen
to be burned
I want to create a fire
of speech and writing
consuming all who encounter it
but all I have created are dying embers and ash

Please Lord
spirit, fairy of dreams
goblin of nightmares
whatever you may be
please gift me with sleep
sweet, easy sleep
let my bed be warm
and blankets soft
let not my book distract
nor the toils of the day concern
grant me sleep
free of dark thoughts
let my mind be at peace
and let me arise the next morn'
refreshed and ready to face the day
