I was a young and hopeful soul
Desired to wander free
Free of my worries and longed to go on adventures
At night I would watch the pink skies
Sitting in a rocking chair on the porch
Being aware of nature that surrounded me
Assertive of the words I shared
Taught the ways of my father
Dreamed of golden bridges and greener days
When people like you would come together and lay in the grass
Holding hands and listening to music
Going barefoot and swaying with the wind
Let us go back to Woodstock I had a change of heart

Feeling the need to smoke a cigarette
When you never had one before
Fighting the urge to *****
Cause you got caught up on drinking more
Packed up your belongings and headed to the west
It's a cold autumn afternoon and the air hits your chest
All that is left of you is in your head
Your body is unstable and your eyes are sore and bleed
Life decided to cut you loose and let you have the noose
No one came to the rescue
There you lay waiting for death to accept you
Had you wished for roses and kisses the time you went away
Strangers from afar would not pay any mind that day

Green under-ripe fruit
Ripens slowly
To that perfect sweetness
Succulent mangoes
Crimson strawberries
Inky blueberries
Swallow their soft flesh and let it nourish you
Before it’s too late
And their skin becomes dry and wrinkled
Black spots appearing
Bruised flesh that leaves a bitter taste
Eat it now
Before the fur settles on the fruit
Do not take your youth
For granted
