Alone at the bar
As I finished the show
I caught his eye and he nodded
‘Hello’
I watched as he drained the last slug from his glass
Ordered another, and muttered
‘Hey Lord, kiss my ***
He wasn’t a drunkard or some down and out
Just a good guy who needed to let the pain out
So I packed my guitar
And pulled up a stool
His tears filled his shot glass
Then he said ‘I can see you’re no fool’
But I lost her today
I watched her slip away,
I cried as she tried, but she couldn’t hang on.
Then she closed her eyes,
And I had to say goodbye
There should be some other way
But I’m too alone and he cried

You have the chance to have something good in your life
A spice rack of excitement
If you’d only turn away from the grill
Open the jar with the dusty lid
And sprinkle a little of its contents over the life you have now
You may awaken a taste that takes you on a journey
You may replace the lid, put the jar back in its place on the rack and never use it again
But once in s while, when you reach for the same old plate to put your cheese sandwich in
You’ll look up and see the jar
And remember the taste of that journey you took.
