They laughed,
They smiled,
They made jokes;
all to play along with the part it seemed life had given them.
They were afraid of change,
Afraid that one day they would awake and see a world they didn't belong in.
You can fear change but still welcome it,
but there will always have that fear lying beneath the skin.
They fear the change because they are still trying to
find themselves in the now,
The countless nights spent trying to figure out who they need to be for the next day;
What mask to show the others.
The day will come where they no longer want to welcome the new;
the day they become tired
They will tire of changing their mask, but they will never leave the house without it;
but the day will come where you will not see them;
Day after

It comes and goes as waves do in the ocean
As I sit alone I unknowingly become drowned in my thoughts
Thoughts of you, me, and what we could become
but the more I think the less I see a future that has both you and I
As one
I may seem unbothered by these thoughts, but in my mind I am swimming towards a shore that does not exist and am forced to bathe in these thoughts
Alone
The longer I am left in these waters I fear the shore may never come,
that I am dammed to swim in circles
My thoughts of you leave me drowning
What makes all this pain seem worse is that I am the only one who can save me,
I am the only one who can make the shore appear.

You tell me to cry you a river but
Darling if only you knew
how many oceans
I have cried
just for you
Just as deep as the pain
You
made me feel
