"She's smart"
"She's beautiful"
"She's successful"
But is she really as happy as she would be at 50 fully realised and more of herself than she has ever been?
Does it really matter when all I want is
a calm mind and a steady heart
How many peaks do I climb to reach the summit?
How many valleys do I endure?
They say these are the golden years
before it's too late
before you're past your prime
Then, why do I feel so afraid?
I look forward to getting older
When my adjectives don't define who I am
I am the oldest I've ever been at this moment
So, I hope I won't look back
Like Orpheus before he was stranded
and think
"Those were the best years of my life"
because I know there is more to come.
