I'm thirty-nine years old, and I'm trying to live in a genuine way. Anyone who's done this will tell you that it's harder than it sounds. / / I've spent most of my life in academia, but I don't consider myself an academic. I have a Ph.D. in English Literature, and I've taught courses at several universities; I've also been a clerk at a comic book shop, the night manager of a 24-hour deli, a stay-at-home father and a paralegal. I've wanted to be a writer since I was nine, but I've never done so professionally. / / My influences range from Matsuo Basho to William Carlos Williams, James Wright and Leonard Cohen.
