for stressful planning
and credit charges
for emptied drawers
and stacked luggage by the door
I can’t wait
for communication hardships
and endless researching
for early exhausted mornings
and lethargic confusion
I can’t wait
for belonging searches
and metal detectors
double checking my facts
and momentary panic that i messed up

...
I can’t wait
for airplane seats
and window views
long tiring flights
and transfers in unknown territory
I can’t wait
for screeching plane tires
and strange new air
feet planted on foreign ground
doe-eyed awed
and misspoken anxiety
I can’t wait
for looks directed at me
cautious wonder of the one who’s not native
meeting new people
stumbling over rehearsed words
i don’t know if i’m saying it right
I can’t wait
for new apartment doors
and an unknown bed
thriving in the heart of
the place i wished to see
for several years now
where my dreams took root
and blossomed erratically
I can’t wait
for late night calls to family
i miss you from little sisters
backwards sleeping schedules
but finding my way just fine
I can’t wait for all of this
it couldn’t come any sooner

have you ever met the boy?
you can easily pinpoint what boy i mean if you close your eyes and listen for the song his soul is faintly singing, his heart beating in time with the melody.
if you listen to his soul song and heartbeat you will see explosions of colors that don’t exist
beauty will surface within things you’ve deemed ordinary and insignificant
the stars will dance against the velvet sky and the sun will shine just a little longer
if you listen to his soul song you will begin to feel the urge to dance
to sing
to paint or write
to run and jump
to do anything that ignites the fire in your chest
the warmth of his lingering love keeping you so cozy that not even the bitter winter winds can touch you
if you listen to his soul song
your soul will stir from its hiding place behind the walls of your heart
and
if you’re one of the lucky ones
your soul can sing alongside his in the most mesmerizing melody that even the saddest hearts will rejoice at the sound of
close your eyes and listen beyond the words that he traces on your skin
listen beyond his laughter ringing through your mind
listen beyond the whispered “i love you’s” that are exchanged in the early morning light
while you’re pressed to his chest under the covers
capturing the sleepy kisses that tumble from his lips

you will hear the way you make him happy
the way he is thankful for you
and how you’ve revived his belief in happiness
you will hear the way he wants to wake up next to you
