American I love everything about writing poetry, the thought process, the writing process, the finished product and the release I feel after finishing a poem; there is nothing more satisfying to me. Please let me know what you think of my work! :]
Being a teenager is dodging bullets of petty rumors and gossip speeding towards you like heat-seeking missiles in the middle of the hallway and Hiding from the shadows and trying to find the light simultaneously and Aiming to please everyone, especially your parents who don't pay attention to the important things like whether or not you're still sane unless you ask them please and Floating somewhere in the middle of over and underachieving so as to remain afloat and Constantly battling the stress that wages a war on your body and mind and Falling in and out of what can only be described as the adolescent definition of love and Wishing you could sign a peace treaty with wherever all these emotional bombs are flying from and Getting crushed under the pressure that Builds and Builds until you Bend and Bend until you finally Snap. And break down in tears, exhaustion and strife. And when you regain enough strength, you wave your tiny white flag in surrender, Hoping to put life on pause, even just for a moment In a feeble attempt to prepare yourself for the next attack Because these ruthless soldiers don't care if you can't handle the pain that they inflict and Without skipping a beat, a machine gun opens fire on your soul, leaving holes that make you question who you are and Your wounded, empty shell of a body is all that's left laying motionless on the ground and You hope like hell you can survive this teenage battlefield.

Teenage Battlefield
Welcome to the world, baby girl 7 pounds, 6 ounces, baby girl Full of smiles, baby girl But those smiles will soon turn into tears, baby girl Taking your first steps and saying your first words, baby girl Ignorance is bliss, baby girl You’re not a baby anymore, little girl You’re growing up, little girl In suburbia heaven, little girl Where all your secrets are shut behind closed doors, little girl With a family all your own, A mommy, a daddy and an older brother, little girl And nobody knows your secret, little girl Nobody knows the pain you live with, little girl Nobody knows that... Daddy hits you when you don’t read your book and Daddy hits you when you don’t clear your plate and Daddy hits you when you tell him to stop hitting your brother. A few years pass but things never change and the scars never fade and the bruises never wane. Daddy hits you when you don’t do the laundry and Daddy hits you when you don’t do what you’re told and Daddy hits you when you try to apologize. A few years pass but things never change and the scars never fade and the bruises never wane. Daddy hits you when he sees your report card and Daddy hits you when you try to explain that it’s his fault and Daddy hits you when he doesn’t understand. A few years pass but things never change and the scars never fade and the bruises never wane. Daddy hits you when you take the car without permission and Daddy hits you when you have an attitude and Daddy hits you when he tells you that you’re a disappointment. But one day, baby girl, daddy hits you, and you fight back.
