English 22 year old from York, UK. A 2011 graduate in Economics and Politics from the University Of Sheffield. Currently attempting to save up to travel to Cuba and South America! Don't know much about poetry/writing poems, I'm more of a music man and recently started attempting to write songs and lyrics. Anyway, I wrote my first poem while on a train (lack of ability to play guitar on train, hence a poem..) Musical influences come initially from The Clash, with Joe Strummer being the guy I look up to (politcally and musically). Apart from that, Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst, Death Cab For Cutie, Postal Service, Elliott Smith, The Strokes, Damien Rice. All sorts really, but a big fan of singer/songwriters. From the poets I've read, I like Cummings, Hemingway, & a few others but I don't have any specific styles. To be honest I haven't had much exposure to poems, but I guess that's why I'm here..
A blindness covers me like a blanket. The sights, sounds and smells that once brought such joy and reassurance, are haunting now. The perfume, the hair, the pillow. A light breeze, a quaint look. You still put a smile on my face, but it’s different now, tainted perhaps. Conversations and dreams of the future, relegated to mere passing comment. Poorly timed and unfairly executed. The tracks which once brought us together, and carried us apart, are longer now than ever. I still see you at night with eyes pressed tightly shut, but by the morning you’ve gone. It’s hard waking up knowing what you’re missing. The strongest yet most painful feeling, fades with the fields and blue skies. Forgetting the most beautiful sunrise you have ever seen, Is humoured by a tiring cliché. But I’ve never been a fisherman.
