An ode to my mother, mom you are my strength For you, my God, I would go to any length A gorgeous day not a single cloud of angst As you rest peaceful in Heaven's outer banks As high as a kite on selfless joy and pride The sun grew jealous of light you held inside You came home for Christmas gung ** bonafide The world kept turning you were ready to ride You could inhale hope smile and exhale faith No marathons instead you won every race Told to rest, but NO! You were God's special case Wide eyes would float you to any destined place Last Summer Point Pleasant you rode on the swings Got off, and yelled, please don't let me do these things You flew that day and today you've earned your wings Angel for a mom makes me the king of kings Could hardly walk and worse you could barely breathe But you walked on out to meet the ocean breeze The beach was all yours the perfect day was seized Summer with Autumn was no longer make believe You hit Atlantic City you doubled down Toured the hotels and had fun you love that town We had wonderful laughs there I love the sound You chased happiness you didn't **** around The woman who fought a most perilous strife Never knew sympathy, although it enticed Less than incredible simply never sufficed Stronger than Superman you saved your own life A hero disquised, stood only 5 foot 3 Ravaged skyscrapers desperate to revive me Choked out fear, annihalated anxiety You wove my path to enlightenment finally Ask the doctors they call you miracle girl Guided me close while my vision was blurred Showed me light when darkness developed a hold You opened my eyes to a spiritual world A moment to thank you for eternal love Kind symbolized by a quiet morning's dove Perfect well yes I surely fell quite short of And more and more love you were deserving of But mom know as you fought your nemesis time And never surrendered it helped me define Suffering as being divine by design Your life was so beautiful rescued was mine

My spirit travels a road of smiles. Streetlights are friends frolicking in place. Mistakes pile up into traffic jams. But I'm a walking jetpack. Setbacks are happy trails. Been there, done that, blazed the darkness. I promise to go the way of the adventurer. Getting lost is finding my way. Staying chin up and heart out, a bobcat of a man. I stand, in the onslaught, caught in the rain. Insane are the naysayers shaking their heads. They may as well stay in bed laying dead. Never praying for anything. This is for the adventurers out there inventing our truth. Never losing our youth as we breathe it in from a cigarette. And you can bet, when in danger, we don't become strangers to us. Tragic turns to magic, fear turns to tears which hydrate our peace. And moments of happiness that we clamor through. Become the blueprints of our soul. So when it's all said and done, we carry on our enchanted worlds. For the life of the adventurer truly never unfolds. -Carm 4/8/14

The Adventurer
Cheers to the world that is us To the ones who aren't complete We haven't made families We've lost part of ours No children or marriages We've been through more than that The sabotage of a drifter's past Through a lot of nothings at all We thought we were chasing dreams But were we really running from fear Life is thought to be linear And ideally perfect it may be But we ran in other circles Whether by choice or as a result Of the ones we didn't know Or those that we ignored Time slipped through cracks in time It never really waited for us And our futures were like snowfall No one could predict the **** But it never really mattered much For we lived in the moment Basked in the memory Sang in the sunlight Danced in the moonshine Swam underneath our silhouettes Flew high above our sinking souls Cried out at the inevitable, **** tomorrow, for I could be dead But here we are today, Tomorrow's yesterday Are we wandering aimlessly Did we have it all wrong Have we always been alone Is it too late to be happy Or do we have it all right Are we the lucky ones For we have felt it all Life death Fear courage Strength weakness Danger adventure Adrenaline anxiety Sadness shame Guilt sorrow All to the extreme So when happiness Becomes of us We feel it Infinite

Questionable
When the sun sets we unrest When the trees shake we keepsake While the wind blows we implode While love drowns we're dumbfound Where souls hide in foresight Where faith goes to scapegoat Why do lies sing by lightning Why truth lies in fools' eyes What high cliffs we're climbing What fear don't we feel here Who then views the temples Who is greeted by peace
