"One could do worse than be a swinger of birches." -Robert Frost
I close my eyes to see you more clearly, your silhouette is etched against the back of my eye lids. I silence my thoughts to hear you more keenly, your voice sings across my barren mind. I hold my breadth to remember you more vividly, your touch warms my cold lonely heart.

You
I watch as the day commences its morning ritual. The ocean embraces the sun's warmth as the still blue water eagerly turns to gold. I look to the rising sun for its interpretation of my dreams. I allow the cool water to wash over my calloused feet. It's reminiscent of her touch: so soft, so gentle, so calming. At that single moment I feel at peace with my place in this world. Peace in my solitude, my confusion, my doubts. But the foam crackles, and the once reassuring wave quickly retreats to its powerful master. I am left with just two hollow footprints on a beach that seems to stretch into eternity. Nothing is gained. Nothing is lost. All that I'm reminded of is that all we have in this world are these fleeting seconds of peace.

Fleeting Seconds of Peace
For I am lost. Basking in the darkness. Relishing this lasting embrace.

Lost
So difficult to enjoy the pleasures of night To truly indulge in my midnight vices When perpetually ruing the rise of the sun Actively rooting against its arrival Secretly wishing science betrays me And the sun never awakens Oh, if only it could be dark forever And the governing laws of the universe Made this one exception for me So that my emotions could openly flourish Without ever being judged by harsh stares If I had one wish, it would be for darkness Total and utter darkness So that I could be lost forever What a beautiful thought indeed

A Beautiful Thought
The ocean admires the stars above, As the waves slowly rock it to sleep. While the stars gaze at their reflections In the midnight blue mirror. The wind passes by without interruption As it searches for its final resting place. I like to imagine this harmony at night, As I lay my head on my pillow. In a chaotic, lonely world, This harmony is my only true reassurance That I too will one day find peace.

Natural Harmony
The immediate introversion, A safe solitude. Alone and alive. Lacking loneliness, At this disturbing depth, Unlike the saliently superficial. The calming confusion Relaxes and reassures. Defiantly deliberate, And thoroughly thoughtful. Marvelously mesmerized By my continuous contemplation. Overtly observant, And insightfully introspective. Fiercely focused On building and bettering. I meticulously memorialize, And succinctly summarize, My lavish love, For being Alone and alive.

Alone & Alive
He tries desperately to forget her, Jealous of those with amnesia. Pleading with all that is holy, Begging for an uninterrupted respite From the relentless burden of pain. But her memories are permanent. They are etched in his brain Like lovers' initials carved in an undying oak. So he's constantly searching for a chainsaw That he only finds at the bottom of a bottle.

In Search of a Chainsaw
This fleeting second Vanishes in your eyes Like a shooting star Across the night's sky May this night not end Not ever, my love For the morning will bring More seconds and The night will bring More stars But I won't have you
