English I am 72 years old and I first started writing poems about 5 years ago. Some have been published but I really just write because I enjoy it.
I have a little furry friend He lives up in a tree He likes to come and play sometimes But he'll only play with me. He likes to choose what games we play And its always hide and seek But sometimes I can't find him Then he gives a little squeak I like my little furry friend I think I'll call him Fred We play together every day Till mommy says its time for bed Fred is a very special friend He is what you want him to be But only I know what he is Thats why he'll only play with me.

MY FRIEND
Stay a while and walk with me We can walk down to the stream We'll sit down upon the grass And tell each other what we dream We'll walk just where we used to walk We'll stroll along together We'll walk between the flower beds And later through the heather We'll sit beneath the apple tree And watch as the world goes by And suddenly you were not there Sometimes I just sit and cry We enjoyed just what we did Just walking mile after mile And we can do it all again If you just come and stay a while

STAY A WHILE
The guns have fallen silent Nothing but peace all around Then the men came marching in They know they're on familiar ground Left right left heads held high Marching onward filled with pride Commands not sought none were given Tears in their eyes hard to hide Officers marched beside their men Corporals and sergeants marched as well They marched away from where they died Marched away from a living hell Now they will march for ever more For soldiers they will always be And on Remembrance Day they'll say Those people there are remembering me.

ALL THE PRESIDENTS MEN
The fields are green now, dark days have gone Everywhere warms to the heat of the sun Birds, leaves and flowers, seems everyone's here To bid welcome to the birth of a tear Early days, young days, discovering how, when and where The world is your oyster, you haven't a care Days of excitement, wonder and fear A natural day in the life of a tear The years roll away, how happy you are You share with each other that far away star Slowly but surely the grey hairs appear As time goes on in the life of a tear When you slow down at last, every step is a pain Just like the moon you're beginning to wane Your memories bring smiles but also brings fear The days grow short in the life of a tear The winter's arrived, your breathing is slow Your loved one's been gone a year or more now With a sigh you whisper farewell to the year And nobody sees the death of a tear.

LIFE
See the graceful sweep of the Eagles wings As he floats on a cushion of air On a spiralling staircase he slowly descends And the wind seems to say a prayer He looks all around, taking everything in For he is not in a hurry He'll catch his prey at the end of the day No matter how fast they scurry At the moment he's content just to soar He knows he's the king of the sky But even kings have young ones to feed In the distance he hears them cry At last he swoops, he seldom fails For the young ones depend on him If he did not bring some morsels to eat Their future would be quite grim He quickly returns to his eyrie To his lofty perch in the sky All is at peace with the world again And the wind seems to whisper a sigh.

THE EAGLE
The scarecrow, solitary in the field Tatty coat, all astray Looks out over all his land If he could talk, what would he say. Summer, autumn, winter too Wind and rain, clouds of grey He never flinches from his post If he could see, what would he say Children play amoungst the crops Neatly parcelled bales of hay Days grow shorter, crisper, cooler If he could hear, what would he say Invisable tears and a broken heart His lonely vigil every day Timeless days and empty nights If he could walk, would he walk away.
