As I fell, I wasn’t mad. There were many reasons to be. The concrete, the bricks, the noise. But all I remember is intense relief. The air brushed past my face. And as I felt the air, I saw my children. Running toward me as I walked out of the car. I saw my wife wipe her hands on her nightgown. I saw her tired face, the greying hairs. But I also saw the smile. They clung to me. In their embrace, I felt free. I felt my heart. I could feel it grow. I was brought back to the rushing air by the wetness of my face. And then. White. Death is the only escape from the concrete that surrounds me
The silence is deafening To the youth that must be drowning The silence is deafening To the woman that lays screaming The silence is deafening To the mother who stopped nursing The silence is deafening To the old who quit longing The silence is deafening To the countless millions searching The silence is deafening But unheard
