If I had to serenade you on a plane Id wait until everyone had alighted as I wouldn’t want to be a terrorist scare. Also guitars might be a flight risk. If I threw you down a hillside Id climb down carefully after as that would leave me better disposed to render medical aid. Id sprint through the city to meet you at a New Years party But id just toast to good health at midnight. I’d kiss you in the rain But I’d carry an umbrella as I wouldn’t want either of us to catch a cold. I wouldn’t buy you a Grand Piano A gift certificate from Furtados would allow you to buy what you'd like. I wouldn’t mail you anonymously I'm not a Nigerian Prince. I wouldn’t build you your dream house I'd diversify your portfolio as that would leave you less susceptible to risk. Also property tax is a ***** I'd stand outside your bedroom window with a boombox over my head But I’d just call you down so we could listen to some soft jazz as I wouldn’t want you to get in trouble with your neighbors. I'd drive like a maniac to the airport just as you were about to take off But I’d just wave to the plane as it departed because tickets are expensive and you wouldn’t get a full refund. I'd slide up to you at the potters wheel But id sit quietly a good five feet away, as that is your art and I wouldn’t want to ruin your work. I'd run away with you But maybe only a 5k as I tire easily and also I wouldn’t want to make your family mad. Id write you a letter everyday But by letter I mean alphabet. A missive every month is more practical. Stamps are expensive and who’d want to answer the door for the mailman every single day?

I picked out my most comfortable shirt And some faded jeans to go with it I caught myself hoping you’d wear that white dress While id carry a carnation as I always have See, we could find each other In any crowded place There were no faces And who cared about spaces? We had one of our own We’d moved way past hello And onto that comfort in silence that only two people know You see, you’d made an impression An everlasting impression I know Believe me, I know I know you wanted to come You just never gave yourself a chance to Because, you see, The Universe has a perverted sense of humor And terrible comic timing. I picked out my favorite shirt And the jeans to go with it I thought id ask you to wear a red scarf While id carry a red rose So we could find each other In this crowded place Full of faces And empty spaces One of which we could make our own I'd sit down and say hello! Or something more amusing Because first impressions are last impressions And you'd impressed me already I don’t know I will never know Because you never came You were never given a chance to Because, you see, The Universe has a perverted sense of humor And terrible comic timing.

Love in red and white
Dear lady, could I have this dance? It’s a lovely night The DJ’s great and the stars are bright We could begin Slowly at first, steadily A gentle shuffle To get our bearings right Heavier then, headily Our bodies in motion Our souls entwined Faster then, madly Two hearts as one A staccato, hard to define Lastly, then sadly Into that secret place That only lovers find Dance with me, darling Dance with me to the food of love, Dance me to the end of love. Where I hope that you will break me Burn me, shake me, unmake me And send me reeling into the other’s arms For it may be you that I want But it is her that I need And that which she brings; for that I shall bleed. You see - Only through a broken heart Can I bleed words onto paper Or cover a canvas in color. So, dear lady, could I have this dance?

Dear lady, could I have this dance?
You Set sparks Between us But all that fire leaves Is ashes and dust Rust instead Over aching decades Like iron hearts Corrode together, surely I Set sparks Alone together So all that fire leaves Is ashes and dust Inertia instead Over pleasurable minutes Like tarred lungs Self destruct, slowly Lets Fade away And not burn out Slowly but surely But Surely but slowly
