I was certain of what I saw,
For it was a moment when the sun still graced the sky.
I couldn’t help but drop my jaw,
My gaze held fast; I could not look away.
The light stood still upon her face,
And there I stood, completely amazed.
Her lips were beckoning me near,
Like a jolt of electricity, her desire ran through me.
The space between us trembled, thin and tight,
A breath away from crossing into flame.
My pulse grew louder than the fading light,
Unsure if I should move or let it be.
Desire leaned close and spoke my name,
But I stepped back before it grew.
I let restraint outrun the flame,
And kept the distance we both knew.

Choking on my breath as I watched her leave
It was something my eyes couldn’t believe
Betrayal and abandonment were all I felt
And there was nothing left to feel, only what was left
The room exhaled the moment she was gone
Light fell wrong where her shadow once belonged
Something inside me folded without sound
Like a dying star, collapsing underground
I don’t know where the road will bend or end
Or if our paths will ever intertwine again
But somewhere between goodbye and then
I leave a space where I might see you again
