22/M/Betwixt truth and madness Speak one man's truth, and at least he will love you. Speak reality, and no-one will.
We seek a life free of suffering. Yet to ask for joy without pain is to ask for an ocean with no water A coin with one side, or a tree with no roots Aye, dark, sinewy roots make strong the tallest of trees, But we ask for strength yet with nothing to strengthen us? Bliss is not found in endless comfort, But rather in discomfort born willingly So then, determined, stride through the swamps, And never give the darkness permission to defeat you Lest you sink in the muck, amongst the many poor souls that lie there forevermore...

Tonight I cried, spilling my tears And a stray one fell onto your dress That new dress I bought for you; You had just washed it. And I said sorry. And I’m sorry for saying sorry. On Sunday I was sick. I was worried you did not love me. So I threw up in your toilet And made such a mess. So I said I was sorry. But I’m sorry I said sorry. On Friday you left me. And as you passed me I almost said it again, But I caught myself. Cause that’s why you left. So I’m sorry for saying sorry.

I’m sorry for saying sorry
Everyone has an opinion, my son. And their words will push and shove you To the left and to the right, Towards earth and towards heaven. Should others be your root which holds you to reality, You will have an anchor which sways with the tides, A bridge timbered upon clouds, And a house founded upon shifting sands. Thus to pursue what is True and Good, You must trust your own eyes. For though they will lie from time to time Another’s eyes cannot fit within your sockets

Opinions
So full are their mouths with words, That they drip with noxious honey and sweet bile. Their brains and ears are clogged with ideas. As they spew forth their own knowledge, The din of their endless monologues is so great that they hear nought but themselves And thus themselves they shall always be.

The Brightest Among Us
If you would but love me All I am is yours My heart My soul My individuality My happiness My meaning All would be slaves to your thoughtless whims If you would but love me If you would but touch me There is nothing I would not do I would hold you I would kiss you I would lie to you I would lie even to myself I would cut my body in pieces No suffering, no immorality would be too great for me If you would but touch me If you would but ask me All I have would belong to you My house My treasures My money My time My body I could not pry them from your iron grasp If you would but ask me

Please Love Me
There is no greater gold in this world than another person’s trust. Yet mine was given freely to anyone who would but ask. A thousand thrusts of a knife was my eagerly awaited award. Yet I returned time and again to the beast that would bite me; For there is nothing in this world that will horrify you more Than fear; to be afraid of being alone. I sold my heart on the darkened streets of life That someone might see it, and through seeing give me value And through value give me meaning; oh, temporary fleeting meaning. For value cannot be given; it can only be held. But all a man values he will give For one thing in return; acceptance. As I sat on the street corner, clutching the heart which no-one would notice I cried aloud, louder, and louder. But the louder I cried, the quieter I became. For I was a din, a racket, the roaring of an engine that passes without notice. For the louder one weeps, the more their tears become one With the rain on the streets, which flows into the careless gutter. And, most bitter irony, little did I know That there was one who would have accepted me for all I was Without biting, without payment, my cries would be heard. Meaning and value would overflow like milk and honey Little did I know, it was me all along.

What My Childhood Was Like
The son came to his father and with tears in his eyes he said “my soul is ruined, and my heart has faced demise.” The father said “my son, there is a light you must pursue, A wisp deep in the forest, that dwells amongst the dew. Pursue the Truth and Goodness relentlessly my son. Pursue the Truth and Goodness and before your journey’s done you’ll have your heart’s true longing, unending peace of mind. The soothing of the soul that which all men in time must find.” The lad went on his mission, yet even at the start the thorns of sloth beset him and they tore his legs apart. But still, his body bleeding and his feet being weighed with lead, he pushed on, persevering, these words held in his head: “Pursue the Truth and Goodness relentlessly my son. Pursue the Truth and Goodness and before your journey’s done you’ll have your heart’s true longing, unending peace of mind. The soothing of the soul that which all men in time must find.” And so he journeyed onward, yet in his path there lay the fiery beast of fearing that did wrathfully buck and bray it roared and charged our hero, its horns did pierce his chest. Yet through the pain he struck the beast these words clove through it’s breast: “Pursue the Truth and Goodness relentlessly my son. Pursue the Truth and Goodness and before your journey’s done you’ll have your heart’s true longing, unending peace of mind. The soothing of the soul that which all men in time must find.” So still the lad went onward, yet who should he now find but the wagging tongue of mocking to place doubt in his mind. Yet though all nerve and sinew in his arms did melt away his mind was ever focused for these words did he say: “Pursue the Truth and Goodness relentlessly my son. Pursue the Truth and Goodness and before your journey’s done you’ll have your heart’s true longing, unending peace of mind. The soothing of the soul that which all men in time must find.” All hope he had forgotten, yet lo and yet behold the shining Truth and Goodness of which he had been told. He forced his arms to outstretch and his legs the pain withstand. He grabbed the Truth and Goodness as he whispered to his hand: “Pursue the Truth and Goodness relentlessly my son. Pursue the Truth and Goodness and before your journey’s done you’ll have your heart’s true longing, unending peace of mind. The soothing of the soul that which all men in time must find.” And there he stood, a-trembling, his strength was all but gone. His life was quickly fading but yet - the deed was done! The Truth and Goodness’ light shone as its power filled his soul. And as his strength redoubled it spake these words in full: “Pursue the Truth and Goodness relentlessly my son. Pursue the Truth and Goodness and before your journey’s done you’ll have your heart’s true longing, unending peace of mind. The soothing of the soul that which all men in time must find.” The wagging tongue was nothing as its words fell on deaf ears. The beast of fearing feared, for our hero knew no fears. The thorns of sloth were burning as the flame of truth shone bright and though the night brought darkness, these words shone as his light: “Pursue the Truth and Goodness relentlessly my son. Pursue the Truth and Goodness and before your journey’s done you’ll have your heart’s true longing, unending peace of mind. The soothing of the soul that which all men in time must find.” The lad said “Oh my father, my heart now knows no tears. I’ve shuffled off my doubting and I’ve left behind my fears. No sloth can ever slow me, my eyes see through the night, for Truth and Goodness guide me as my everlasting light.” Pursue the Truth and Goodness relentlessly my son. Pursue the Truth and Goodness and before your journey’s done you’ll have your heart’s true longing, unending peace of mind. The soothing of the soul that which all men in time must find.

Slowly I walk as happenings drift by Every step a million moments, every moment a million miles No goal hurried me, no plan directed me Then a next step - I shot into a sprint Every step a hundred happenings, every moment a hundred hours I hurled myself forward, my heart in a mad dash But the ground sped ahead of me I would have tripped and fallen but for my reckless abandon that kept me just apace But not for much longer The goal faded off, the distance swallowing it The world went ahead without waiting for me Yet still I speed onward. Maybe, one day I will catch up to the world

But the world went too fast
As the people stood at the precipice of madness, as the tendrils of justice overpowered the land with ungodly strength, so sat the man, held on high by a thousand hands. On his left stood equality, on his right stood freedom, at his head lay a physics textbook, at his feet lay a wooden cross, in his right hand an AR-15, in his left hand a bicycle lock. As the cities blazed with the inferno of collective fury, the people were rejoicing and wailing from within it, their flesh a burnt offering to the man on high. And he said: “The blood of the world's enemies shall bring it new life and succor. The bones of those who sinned against history will be timbered into a palace where only the good shall live. The words of the liars will be twisted into truths and become our new Bible, our revolutionary scripture. So shall it be, for we are now True, Good, and Beautiful.” And everyone, the thousand hands which held aloft the god, the million corpses, the sacrifices he demanded, shocked by his words, they cried “who are you?” And he said: “I am of you, and of your enemies too, for when words are gone, and justice executes love and truth, I am all that remains.”

The son cast his gaze upwards, eyes full of arrogant hope, dreaming, fantasizing, about the benevolence of his rule. He forgets that his father’s fist and his mother’s biting tongue are heirlooms, passed from generation to generation, for the sins of his forebears gush through his arteries.
