Pitter pat Pitter pat.
Like rain above my head.

Pitter pat Pitter pat.
Blood flows to it's bed.

Pitter pat Pitter pat.
Making a puddle of red.

Pitter pat Pitter pat.
Enough has been shed.

Pitter pat Pitter pat.
My deathbed up ahead.

Pitter pat Pitter pat.
Enough has been said.

Pitter pat Pitter pat.
To death I be wed.

Pitter pat Pitter pat.
A war makes a cold deathbed.

Pitter-patter.
On the window.
Pitter-patter.
On the sill.
Pitter-patter.
Does the child.
Pitter-patter
from your mouth.
You say you don't,
I know you do.
You say you won't,
I know you will.
You pitter-pat all the time until-
until you pitter-pat your way,
to driving out insanity.
Pitter-pat.
Pitter-pat.
Tisk-tisk-tisk.
Tat-tat-tat.
You pitter-patted through the house.
You pitter-pat like a measly mouse.
You say you don't,
I know you do.
You say you won't,
I know you will.
Pitter-pitter.
Pat-pat-pat.
The rain against the window resembles,
the sound after a pitter-pat.
You clasp your lips,
say you'll make no sound,
but you pitter-pat
all the time;
all around.
You say you don't,
I know you do.
You say you won't,
I know you will.
You pitter-pattering,
chitter-chattering,
skitter-scattering,
little rat-like
mouse.

Pitter patter, pitter patter
I awoke this morning
To the soft tapping of water
Against the many panes
Of my bedroom windows

The sound is mesmerizing
Pitter patter, pitter patter
I watched and listened silently
As rivulets of water chased
Each other in a race to the end

The rumbling of thunder is followed
By sudden flashes of bright lights
Pitter patter, pitter patter
The skies are singing me a song
The many sounds a unique symphony

Endless streaks of water
Float like clouds down the panes
For moments at a time it is quiet, then
Pitter patter, pitter patter
The chasing of water continues

Wrapped in my warm fuzzy blanket
I sit on a benchseat by the window
Watching the rain cleanse away
All of the previous days' stresses
Pitter patter, pitter patter

Pitter Patter against the roof as I climb up those stairs with the weight of the world on my shoulders. Pitter Patter against the cold, wet windows…As I stare out into the cloudy day with tears pouring like the rain. Pitter Patter goes my heart as I start to sink more and more into the depression haunting my soul. Pitter Patter goes the dogs’ tail as he lies watching me stare into the nothingness that has become my life. What did I do wrong this time? Has failure and defeat finally set in? My heart beats… slowly but surely I know I am still alive. Pitter Patter as I walk down those stairs with nothing to lose. Pitter Patter against those cold, wet windows…I look for a sign of something more. Pitter Patter goes my heart as I walk back out the door with a feeling of hope in my soul. Pitter Patter goes the dogs’ tail as he walks next to me down the street searching for that tiny thing called hope…

The rain comes down
In sprinkles
Pit pit pit
Riding my bike down the hill
Feeling the gentle droplets of rain
Smelling the fresh dew scent

The rain comes down
At a decent speed now
Pitter pitter pitter
Hanging my jacket on the rack
Shaking out my wet hair
Smelling the fresh dew scent

The rain comes down
Pouring now
Pitter pat pitter pat pitter pat
Opening the window
Grabbing new book
Smelling the fresh dew scent

The rain comes down
Hard and fast
Pitter patter pitter patter pitter patter
Shutting the window as it gets to wet
Closing a finished book
Wishing for the smell of the fresh dew scent

The rain comes down
Flashes and booms overhead
Pitter patter flash boom pitter patter flash boom pitter patter flash boom
Hiding under the covers
Anxiety making its presence known
Trying to hold on to the smell of the fresh dew scent
Pitter patter on my window pane
The rain is my solace
It keeps me sane

From the truth of my loss
And the little I’ve gained
Pitter patter on my window pane

Pitter patter on my window pane
It’s ceasing right now
I’m getting insane
Is the heartache I’m feeling
Worth the price of giving
Pitter patter on my window pane

Pitter patter on my window pane
The freedom I gave
Is my sentence of shame
Because I am not strong enough
To pretend I am tough
So please don’t stop the

what's this liquid falling from the sky
with its pitter-patter, pitter-patter?
to the drought of summer, it says "goodbye"
with its splitter-splatter, splitter-splatter!
look and watch as the world grows vibrant
as it pitter-patters, pitter-patters!
oh, thank you, dear clouds, for being our hydrant
as it splitter-splatters, splitter-splatters!
watch as the parched lives are finally quenched
by its pitter-patter, pitter-patter!
the once dry earth at last is drenched
by its splitter-splatter, splitter-splatter!
It just rained here today for the first time in almost three months, at least the first time it's rained beyond a slight mist, and I'm so happy.

Pitter patter of the rainy view from my porch
Cars wiz by, some with urgency like there is really somewhere to be
The rain splashes a cool mist upon my feet that's oh so refreshing
The sun fighting hard to burst through the line of clouds,
Maybe hoping to help turn this gloominess around,
Pitter patter

Pitter Patter of the rain falling hard
The aroma of fresh coffee steaming from my cup
Flowers lie in wait to gain what they need to bloom again
Clouds zoom by as the rain tries to slow
Pitter patter

Pitter patter of the rain as it slides down the smooth surface of fresh growing tomatoes,
A pink yard flamingo hiding behind the vines
The newspaper sits in a plastic bag as it waits to be put inside
It feels like the world is barely awake or maybe it's just me,
There are so many feelings to feel and sights to see
But good morning rain!
You are welcome
You are welcome from the place that you fell from
The sound of rain dissipates as the sun shines near

A view from my porch one morning.
Pitter patter,
pitter patter.

The rain echoed in your head,
as you tried to remember what the drizzle sang
On that cloudy noon in November.

With its rhythmic tune
And endless repetition,
It danced its way to your sun roof
installation.
Staining the back of your mind with images of tear drops,
shed by the clouds.
For the skies missed your company.

The rain drops,
Quietly tapped on the,
Glass panes of your apartment; reminding you to use your umbrella.

Their warning useless,
Because you never wanted one.
Never needed one.
Even as the cool shower
came rolling through town.

You were there: Umbrellaless.

See,
The dreary weather here seemed so...
Relaxing.

Well,
not to anyone but you..

But it was as if the rain that day,
brought a hint of restlessness.
The aroma of coffee shops
became tempting,
like little boy's feet
drawn to sidewalks full of puddles.

They teased and tickled your exposed skin,
Those parts unsheltered by your favorite grey cotton sweater

The rain left the scent of wet pavements and fallen leaves,
lingering on the tip of your nose and top.

It seemed like one of those days:
Reading your book;
Your body tangled up in the couch;
A blanket to warm you;
Freshly brewed tea on hand,
as the endless chime of drizzling kept you company.

To you,
it was the most sensible thing.

The bustle of the city went mute as you walked along the avenues and streets.
(Especially without an umbrella.)
For where you went, you felt the rain.
While others got wet.

And for that brief stroll around the city,
slightly damp.

You were lost in the rain.
Calm and free.

For the rain was your friend,
And you were his..
Pitter patter,
pitter patter,
pitter patter.

I hope it  rains today.

Sent from my iPad
It kinda drizzled today

a little pitter-patter,
postponed the celebration
and clatter.

a little pitter-patter,
**** on our family gatherings
like it made no matter.

pit-pit-pitter-patter.

pit-pit-pitter-patter.

no screaming lights,
the night to
shatter.

boys went on before.
went to unjustified war.
felt the hot

pitter-patter
of hatred,
of lead.

old polititcians
produced
a downpour of pretty promises.

in the form of
"freedom"
"independence"

give 'em pride
and a rifle.
push 'em a trifle
to strengthen their hide.

pit-pit-pitter-patter.

pit-pit-pitter-patter.

postponed 'til the fifth.
so we could remember
dead boys

I cannot sleep
It's rainy outside
Pitter patter pitter patter
Is all I hear

So I close my eyes
And listen carefully
Pitter patter pitter patter
A song I can hear

The trees are growing
The flowers are blooming
Walked on pavements
Now washed away

Now I'm asleep
And it's still rainy outside
Pitter patter pitter patter
No rain I can hear

Pitter
Patter
Fall the rain
The dwelling
Bedlam of London
Residence of the insane

Behind metal rusted bars
Shall they forever remain
Raving madmen
With minds chaos they lay

How many poets
Are in the echoing screams
The artists visions
In lifeless eyes
A vacant being

The sculptor
Genius hands
Frozen into stone
Frightened into psychosis
For fear being alone

Pitter Patter
The maniacs clatter
Lightly fall the rain
Upon the dark roof
As the lunatics howl

Pitter Patter

Sit back and relax
Feel the waves wash over your back
In the melting sun
Looking at the clouds reflecting all the pinks and blues
Over the blooming hill, echoing white noise of chirps and crickets

Listen to the trickling of the slow water over the smooth rocks
Feel a warm wind brush your face
With your eyes closed
Enjoying the radiating warmth
And the soothing crackling of a log fire

Or sit and admire the shimmering spray
Of a waterfall smoothly crashing into the water of a sky kissed lake
Sunlight dancing through the vapor
Rainbows jumping through every droplet

Listen to the pitter patter of the rain, against a tin roof
Inside a warm cabin
Drifting to sleep
Soon to wake to the song bird's chorus
And the blissful sun

Bask in it
And relax

Pitter patter, you love the rain
said it always makes you feel in bliss.
Maybe it's the reason why—
When my eyes are full of tears
You seem to be a joyful one.

Pitter patter, you love the rain
Here I am, crying a river
Such sorrow, devouring me whole.
I bless you'll find your euphoria
in this wet weather, making me shiver.

Pitter patter, you love the rain.
Aren't you just fond of the sound of me, sobbing?
I don't really mind, because you love such a cold climate
Rain is forecast just for you.

Pitter patter, you love the rain.
At least, in other words—
It kind of means you love me, too.
My tears, the pitter-patter, the rain you love.
Perhaps you find my suffering, beautiful.
George Arkley Feb 2013
Silence floods me. Drumming on my shoulders and tapping my head,
The pitter patter on the pavement counting the seconds away,
Icicles dripping and hitting the puddles,
Murky water full of lost memories and being renewed over and over...

The thunder rattles my nerves,
Pushing my feet further forward,
But the pitter patter on the pavement is counting the seconds away,
The streams come rolling down the road,
Littered water brimming with my mistakes...

The silence halts. You push the storm clouds away when you charge through the door,
The pitter patter counted three months since I last saw you,
Clear water rushes to your eyes,
You scoop me up in your arms and that's when I know:
My big bro's home.

I could sleep beneath this waterfall,
Beneath water so hot
That it feels so cold,
Or maybe…
Water so cold that it feels so hot,
The pittering and pattering
Drowns the noise inside my head.
Pitter, patter,
Against the back of my ears,
Oh, how I love the sound,
Of pitter, patter,
Pitter, patter,
As the droplets hit the ground.
AE Wilson May 2014
The pitter-patter
(pitter-patter)
of the rain against my window
attempted to lull me to sleep,
but sleep
(pitter-patter)
pitter-pattered away.
Nature's mournful tears
waltzed down my window
and collected in pools of sorrow,
and every thought
in the back of my mind
was pulled forth for
reflection,
knocking me off the edge
of unconsciousness and into
the restless abyss that is
insomnia.
I tried counting sheep,
but they were all
nestled together -
in a bundle of
wool and dreams -
taunting me in their
slumber,
teasing me in
dormancy.
So I laid there
and thought,
and spoke to myself,
and dreamed
of a restful night.

They told me to listen to the raindrops,
And how they beat pitter-patter on the rooftops.
But there is no rooftop on this broken home.
And rain doesn’t “pitter-patter” over it,
It drowns it out.
And now, submerged under water,
I cannot hear anything.
Except the pitter-patter of my heart,
As I’m looking at you.
We’re here, dancing and drowning in the raindrops.
And now, the only pitter-patter we hear is our feet on the floor of this ocean house.
The waves carrying us in any direction in sees fit.
And now, when they tell us to listen to the raindrops,
We won’t be able to hear them.
Because we are now the raindrops.
Pitter-patter.

Scatter rights, scatter wrongs
pitter-patter, pitter-patter
Scatter ships, scatter lips
pitter-patter, does it matter?
Scatter rain, scatter colors
pitter-patter, pitter-patter
Scatter love, scatter lovers
pitter-patter, it doesn't matter
The rain, the rain, drives me insane
It patters on my windowpane.
Each single drop of rain that’s spent
Leaves my mind in such torment.
A feeling that I can’t explain
The torture of the pouring rain.   6

Please let it stop, it can’t go on,
My sanity will soon be gone.
Pitter, Patter, Patter, Pit, it
Drives me mad, I cannot sit.
Each successive single drop
Makes my brain want to pop.

The sound torments, I have no peace.
With every drop the sounds increase.
It feels as if my brains on fire
And I’ve begun to mass perspire.
The sweat that trickles from my brow,
Begins to Pitter, Patter, now.      18

Oh Water God, please rescue me,
Stop the rain and set me free.
Hear my prayers and let me go.
Remove the curse of H2O
I did nothing to create
Please let me be, I’m in a state.

I’ll begin to beg and cry,
Set me free, I’d rather die.
The pain, the pain inside my head,
I’d be better off if dead.
Hear my plea, I beg please do
I just don’t know what else to do. 30

I’ll hold a pillow to my ears
And mop up my cascading tears,
It’s water, water, everywhere.
My mind has just become a blur.
I can’t go on, I cannot breath,
I’ll hang myself and take my leave.

Still the rain it patters down,
Someone save me, or I’ll drown.
My minds in a submerging pool,
Oh Water God, why be so cruel.
Let the falling water cease.
It can’t go on please give me peace. 42

Pitter, Patter, Patter, Pit,
Pitter, Pitter, Pit, Pit, Pit.
Water running down the drain,
The excruciating, crippling pain.
The racking of each nervous cell
Ringing out my own death knell.

Deafening noise I can’t keep out,
Grant my prayer, send a drought.
Let my mind have peace again,
Remove the daggers from my brain.
Oh Water God don’t torture me
Stop this rain and let me be.  54

If you’ll just grant one single wish
And leave the water to the fish.
Don’t let it fall upon my glass.
Each single, soggy, squishy, splash.
Then I’ll forever sing your praise,
Forgive me Lord, it’s just a phase

PitterPat Poem

The trouble of a pitter pat
Tracing where the leak is at

A pitter pat has drip drip drops
Although overflowed it never stops

Once I tried to freeze a clock
But still I heard its tick tick tock

The pitter pat sound once it goes off
Feels ominous an auditory gunshot

And when I sleep, the pitter pat slows
But when I dream, still it shows

The pitter pat has no care for where
It pierces the veil, any shrouds it'll tear.

Droplets pour down my face and soak into my clothes.
I sigh,
Smile,
And spin in the rain.
Pitter patter pitter patter,
Tears fall from the sky.
Words, silent,
Ghost across my lips.
I sing,
But there is no sound.
If you speak but no one hears,
Have you actually said anything at all?
Short.

Yellow tabby sits in the window,
Tail sways from side-to-side
In rhythm with the droplets outside,
Outside where the lake’s surface
Is broken by a thousand beats on its drum,
Pitter-patter, pitter-patter, over and over.
Tears cascade down from heaven’s gates,
And create flowing streams that boil with
Steam and pressure to form a fountain
That splashes from the surface to the sky.
Pitter-patter, pitter-patter, over and over.
Yellow tabby sits in the window,
Eyes move from side-to-side,
In no particular rhythm with the outside,
Outside where the lake’s surface
Is no longer broken by a thousand beats
On its drum.
The sun emerges
To clear the stage.

By the sill sit still;
Listen to the wash on the roof;
Specks and sheets form a symphony
so complete to hush you quiet,
Even still.

An inundation.
This libation to parched earth has
been a meditation since birth;
to ponder under the pitter-patter
hiss and swish of exponential scales
At the wrongness of raindrops in a sunbeam.

Sit still, brood like the clouds that came
to darken a June day, so silent they gathered
over a land hard with memory,
With fear for passing years and
worries that grew like weeds in summer showers.

Brief as thought these drops like jewels
are set ablaze then strike the dirt; done.
They flash for an instant in time,
with no way back to an azure sky.

There is no telling the distance,
How high these clouds climb.
Just the sound of falling rain,
Listen.

The soft, gentle pitter patter of rain lulls
her
unspoken wishes
into
a quiet, mellow

As, the beads of rain curve into something bigger,

Now lucidly clear.

Drip....
    Drop....
Drip....
    Drop....

The rain starts to sing
My toes catching wet kisses as they stick out from under my shelter.

Pitter Patter,
    Pitter Patter,

The rain picks up,
Using the leaves as cymbals.
The street light becomes a spot light,
The green grass sparkling, twinkling in the night.

Crunch, Crunch,
  Sploosh, Sploosh,

Hooded figures walk past through leafy puddles,
Unknowingly joining the symphony.
Their shadows creating an interpretive dance.

Darker than the sky
Rain sliding down the windows

Watching people come in and out
Sitting at the table
"Order up!

Chiming around the room
And bouncing off the walls
Multiple conversations
I sat there
In that room

Such where the hero was the villain
Stories that could only be deciphered

She dances so very softly.
Slender feet carry her across the
Infinite expanse of my mind.
Gliding, she's striding over pains and
Apprehensions as she brings me in
Closer, holding me tightly to her chest.
The heartbeat is soft, so very steady.
The eyes, like two beautiful stars.
Choicest of the heavens, none like them
Exist. They glisten, penetrating my soul.
Casting pure gazes upon me; so very beautiful.
I open mine, and alas, she is gone.
Yet I still hear that little pitter patter
The sound of her feet tapping inside
So very quietly.
