Oh, the decisions of the heart.
       To live without your voice,
or let it tear me apart.

To be the "richest" would be divine,
Yet how, "richest" would you define?

When the essence of two join as one,
            A new life has begun.
A Juicy Fruit wrapper, lays crumpled on the floor,
over there between my desk and the door.
How many people worked to get it just right.
That paper, that will get swept up tonight.
That Juicy Fruit wrapper crumpled on the floor,
over there between my desk and the door.

Humans became the dominant of every kind,
When they turned from muscle, to using the mind.
And to their apex, they started to reach,
Giving up instinct, and learning to Teach.
These notes may be the longest, thing I ever write on this site. This poem is dedicated to a teacher who got me interested in poetry. Ninth grade English class. MS Babttista had just on a Friday, announced we would begin a study on poetry, the following week. Our assignment was over the weekend, to write a poem. I was upset, I was a budding football player and poetry was for girls and sissies. There was still about 15 minutes left in class, so I wrote the poem #1 below and tossed it on her desk. When I arrived back on Monday, while she was picking up my fellow students poems, she handed mine back. On the top was an "A" with the note "Nice read, thanks for taking the time, to make it rhyme. See me after class. I was glad and surprised by the "A" but worried about meeting her. After class she asked how I was able to write it so fast, and did I just make it up. I told her I had never tried to write a poem in my life. She said I might just have a future. She then handed me a dog eared copy of the poems of Robert Frost, and told me it was one of her favorites, and she would like me to have it. He is my favorite to this day. As all of you know, I'm not and will never be a good poet, but she started me searching for good poetry. Poem #2 is my effort to thank her and all "Teachers". You will know now that my "tag line" on many of you fellow trying poets, was "plagiarized" from a former beloved teacher. But, I consider it the highest of praises! Please keep writing. Thanks for reading, Denny R. Allison.

If You want to be content in Life.....Do.
Remember, the World, was Never, About You.

It seems lately, I push the pause button all the time,
Realizing it's the rewind, I really need to find.

I know not how humanity ends, or who the last soul will be,
I believe, "who will remember me?", will be their final plea.
DENNY R ALLISON Dec 2022
I hope there will be a future, "while"

Where the pain will ease,

and I remember your smile.

I Will,
Using only ordinary words, arranged just right.
slip through your eyes, and sense of light.
Enter your imagination, with what I write.

Another day
      has slipped away,
and in that time,
      the choice was mine.
To make the world, more bright.
doing what, I know is right.
Did I cause, someone to smile,
did I go that extra mile.
Was I quick to lend a hand,
was I forgiving of my fellow man.
If I failed yesterday,
may I succeed, if I get "another day."

US'INS KNOW IT,
IF IT DON'T RHYME,
YOU AIN'T NO POET
Does anyone else
     know the feel,
of sleep interrupt,
     and words lining up,
for the poetry wheel?

I'm just a man,
       trying to understand,
                     If there is a plan,
                           mortals, can understand.
Looking back, it seems to be.
Loving relatives, at the
  age, of about three.
Taught me a prayer,
   to say upon my knee,
And set upon the
 tribe, for me.
Making sympathy hard, for
    other tribes, to see.
A struggle, even now,
    to break free.
May we find a way
  "My Plea"

As your yesterday's continue to pile,
may most, be remembered with a smile.

Now I lay me down too sleep,
I pray my pills, the pain,
      away will keep.
May I slumber a little before,
the spouse puts down the book,
     and begins to snore.
May my coverage, hit the spot,
not to cold, not to hot.
May I make it through the hour of wee,
     without having to get up
        and ***.
May I add to that, the neighbors
        dog doesn't, see a cat.
At my age, any bedtime
        wish list, I make,
          I must add,
             that I, "awake".
Forever the march
   of numbers go.
Endless the universe,
   it seems so.
Finite seems life,
   do we know?
Without sentient beings
   does it matter though?

Going forever hungry, but relishing every meal.

So many of you with that
        10watt mass in your head.
Can generate so much,
          out there, to be read.
Garnering likes, loves, and
          repost, that spread.
Making me post, my attempts,
          with a sense of dread.
Hopefully pushing my own
           wattage to a "nine."
I can manage, to generate,
            a usable line.
Afraid my watts, don't know
            what's unless I rhyme.
Again I'm afraid, I've wasted,
            everyone's time.

I remember with a sigh,
     those days, gone by.
When someone told
      a lie,
the teller, we would
       decry.
DENNY R ALLISON Jan 2023
To be, or not to be, no longer
         poetrys  most important question.
But, whether written by human or,
          human, CGI suggestion.

Pledge allegiance to the,
     Red,White, and Blue.
Not to the grievance of,
      Left, Right, and Untrue.
Next time the cost of
something, has you
  angry or blue.
Think of the chain
it took, to get to you.

I fear,
     we cheer,
          only those,
                  we want,
                          to hear.

This is an odie I wrote to my daughter when she was living her dream of working for Disney. She was on the graveyard shift at her Disney hotel on Christmas Eve. Her first Christmas ever away from home.I wrote it as a song to cheer her up. She survived and is now a Disney Legacy Employee, and I am proud of her sticking it out

Mankind struts, across the earth,
              believing himself so wise.

Like the crowing bird, sure his voice,
                has made the sun rise.

What's done,
          been done.
              What happened,
                         has happened

Took a cruise,
        to Caribbean blues
On a "Dream,"
       from Mickey's team.
With my loved one,
       celebrating "51."
"Sister's Birthdays" as well,
       ages, I'll never tell.
Daughter, books for four,
       with her Aunt, connecting door.
We feel blessed,
        all four pass, "Covid test."
Pulling luggage up the ramp,
        Miami weather gets us damp.
"Fancy food,
        Princess mood.
Stage shows are gran,
        as only Disney can.
Taking time to pause,
        pictures talking, on the walls.
Giant water slide, kids of all ages use.
Not enough time, that's my "excuse."
First port Gran Cayman,
        far from mainland.
Spent a spell,
        in "Hell."
Hard Rock store,
        number, "fifty-four."
Looking here, and here,
        for that perfect souvenir.
Storm clouds enter,
        run for tender.
Fireworks light,
        Pirate night.
Bingo, praying to heaven,
        for a "B" eleven.
Finding the "Villains" name,
        talking portraits, detective game.
Want to play Goofy golf,
but top deck winds, blow us off.
Passing the time away,
        relaxing on Castaway Cay.
"Excuse Me!"
        Castaway "Key!"
Taking selfies over shoulders,
        of large character boulders.
Trying to get some grins,
        passing out Disney pins.
Barbecue line, sets the mood,
now that's my, kind of food.
Back on board, one last laugh,
        with the best serving staff.
Leaving much, Birthday cake,
        going ashore we cannot take.
They're all in the atrium, better make it quick,
Last chance to get that, character selfie pic.
Stopping to say fair well, to the man,
who kept our room so gran.
Wishing to have more fun,
but the packing must be done.
Getting finally to our bed,
happy disney memories, in our head.
Down the Gangway way to soon,
        humming a Disney tune.
Kids of all ages, I believe, would enjoy, a cruise on the"Disney" seas.

What else, needs to be
done or said,
Before we pass into the
             realm of the dead?
Is there anything unique
     in our mind,
Of life's journey to
         leave behind?
All men are created equal. He said.
She raised her eyes, and shook her head.

HERE'S TO THE CLEVER SHEEP HERDERS OF THE ISLE OF ERIN,
WITH MANY A SHEEP, BUT FOR FENCING BARREN.
THEY PAINT THE BREAST OF THEIR RAMS IN COLORFUL HUES,
THEN IN A FEW DAYS, CHECK THE RUMPS OF THE EWES.
TO SEE WITH WHOM, THE LAMBS THEY'LL BE A SHAR'IN.
Happy St Patrick's to all.
What did the Irishman say to the fly he pinned on the rim of his pint of stout. SPIT IT OUT !, SPIT IT OUT! Special thanks to our tour guide Nell for the explanation and inspiration for the limerick and bus driver Donald for the joke.

From a distance, the heart knew,
   I was her guy.
Up close, the heart beating,
   made me, to shy.
Looking back, the heart
    regretted,
  I walked by.
The ability given to humans
      To hold,
Has given comfort, strife,
       and marvels untold.

Those who poke the Bear,
do they realize what, they do there.
In their cruelty, do they even care,
of the mounting danger, and beware.
Who will get the blame, if claws bare,
And what responsibility does the watcher share.

In writing my poems, it's always my quest,
to take the time, to make it rhyme, but I'm in distress.
I wanted to convey, how much better I rest,
Since the purchase of a great mattress.
My problem you see after plenty of test, I bought a "Purple,"
and "Dang Me" the only thing I found to rhyme was, "Maple Surple."
One of the the worlds favorite pigments, after centuries of time,
has not a single word to which in can rhyme.
A color once held in history as the royal shade,
even now leaves this poet, his poem unmade.
A purple fruit, from which wine we could make,
And someone chose, to call it a "grape."
I say it's high time to correct, this to long slight,
And save the word "Purple" from it's unjust blight
How about you Auto Makers, with your Durango,Sienna, and Tesla.
Come up with a sporty "Verpule," if you wanna Impreza.
Hey, Disney you once rhymed, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,
would doing "Purple" be so atrocious.
Big Pharma, with your colorful, zides, mycins, and statins,
maybe you can use an "urple" in your next covid patents.
You TikTok influencers I'm calling on you,
#Purplechallenge, together, let's see what we can do.
Well, I was really pumped, but now, I just sit here sad.
The Purple Company, sent a gift, an "ORANGE" mattress pad.
So now I pull out my ceremonial sword of "Silver,"
and commit this poem to: "Hari Kilver."
Thanks to the late and great "Roger Miller" for giving me the only rhyme I could find for purple.

It seems, human
  "civilizations,"
     only plan,
       to sacrifice
         their soul,
           and riches,
             to harm their,
               fellow man.

The task, Wear a mask.

Let me be! Land of free!

Get a shot? Toss a lot?

Still a fear, For those dear.

What to do?  Life askew.

Head in sand, Many best plan.

Why this strife? The game of life.

Though I'm gone, I couldn't stay.
You can bring me back any day,
Meet me in your mind, and
we can play.
Don't forget the ones who are gone, It's through you they live on.
DENNY R ALLISON May 2022
I lost you, in the dark of night.
You said, something no longer right.
I lost you, in the sunlight of day.
You said, you couldn't go on this way.
I lost you, truly from the very start.
You said, I unable to give my heart.
I lost you, realizing now what it cost.
You said, I would feel the loss.
DENNY R ALLISON Aug 2023
My best play,
   On many a day,
       What, I didn't say.

Unfortunately "Cs" look like an "A",
after the "Fs" have their say.
DENNY R ALLISON Apr 2022
Dreams, swirl around, like leaves in a breeze.
Life, is the ones, we seize.
In "these days" I consider
it luck, if the the movie
I stream doesn't use F-word.

In the "good old days"
I'd get a back hand hit,
if I ever said S-word.

My grandma, would give a,
Biblical slam, if I muttered,
D-word.

Someone's fetching a switch.
if I called, my sister a B-word

Yet in the "old days" I
do recall my black
friend, braying like a
donkey, calling me H-word,
and we would snicker, when
I called him N-word.
In all "ages" some words, are better off, not said or heard. This was to be The last line, but then it would rhyme. My "good old days" child abuse, and racist words, remembered thru, colored shades.
I know, I took the time, to not make it rhyme.
