Don’t promise me forever
It’s a cruel thing to say
My second fear, eternity, drains my blood away
Stars never ending
A series without end
To comprehend infinity
Is a tricky thought to play
Memories of the pulpit
Sermon in full flow
I feel faint with existence
And I can’t run or go
Existence

It’s not you
It’s ennui
JohnBu Nov 2020
I look into your glistening eyes
A sadness, to my slight surprise
What lies beneath the tear veneer
What lies will I no doubt hear
But what is this? A sentence uttered
That’s gives me hope alls not lost
Not an expression of undying love
Not an epiphany of what should be and was
Simply a memory that long ago
Two souls started down a road
That led to joy and hope and pain
Something we may do again
Knowing you I know that there
Is likely something you don’t care to share
But knowing you as well as I
I fear that your tears may one day give me rise to cry

With child’s eyes
We wait for the surprise
A fizz, a sparkle
A burst of colour
Excited point and show
Your daddy where his eyes should go
Face pressed to the window
In a dark room
To see better
In the potential of the gloom
