The first step is
Radical honesty
With ourselves

We don't intervene
We invade

That's not
"Collateral damage"
Those are
The corpses
Of children
And their parents

Ours is not defense
Ours is war
Amanda Hawk Jun 2020
How do you
Intervene with
A heart
So bound and determined
On self destruction
That rationality
Leaves it with each beat
My heart
Has always been my downfall
Racing into each burning building
Because there was the possibility
Of love on the top floor
How many time do I need
To try to save someone else
Before my heart understands
It needs to save me first
Steve Page Nov 2019
Take your own life
violently by the scruff,
and LIFT.
Once you have its undivided,
wholehearted attention,
stare it straight in the eyes,
and say 'Enough!'
'This is a self-interest intervention.
'Get over this,
shake yourself free
of this mid life need
for a preoccupation
by hostile thoughts
and self-absorbtion,
put to one side
self-indulgent fictions
and get real,
get serious
and get a life
that is true to the person
you now are.
And start by ending the comb-over.
It's a non-starter.'
I see them on the tube.  I just want to shake them.
Amanda Kay Burke May 2018
I am sorry you met me and fell in love
If there was a way in time to go back
I would keep our paths from crossing
Spin my life on some other track

I would block our lines; save us
Before we got the chance to intersect
Tangle and destroy ourselves
I'd stop them so we could avoid being wrecked

If only we could unsee eachothers faces
Erase memory from your lips and my eye
We could have avoided this pain
The difficult task of saying goodbye

All I want to do is delete wrongdoings
Undo wicked disloyal deeds
Find a way to wipe out forces connecting us
Before your name became one of my biggest needs

I am holding the damaged remains of what's left
Shattered memories and pieces of our trust
Trying to put our romance back together
Instead I stare as it crumbles to dust
Sometimes I wish I had a do over.
