By: Cedric McClester

As I breathed
my last breath
And embraced
The thought of death
Envisioning there’s
Nothing left
But those that I’m
Leaving bereft

Another thought
Did occur
Passing strange
As it were
Was my life
Just one big blur?
And how many others
Would concur?

What was I
Leaving behind
To benefit
My fellow kind?
More than once
Crossed my mind
Was it an accident
Or by design?

For now I feared
It was much too late
For anything
But to accept my fate
Having been crushed
Underneath the weight
Then everything
Began to conflate
