Ripples
Ashley Jun 2021
The wind changes
direction
imprinting ripples on
the shell of the skin.

Compression
Ashley May 2021
Entanglement assumes
Subduction
I sink under your
molten compression

Shadow edges and
Depths of quintessence
We merge into earth
With oneness

Mile High
Ashley Mar 2021
I cloud my perception
From the judgement of
The sun

Confluence of love
Is the of sound of two rivers
Thundering on

Meandering across mesas
Veins of the upper crust
Flow through our entangled palms

Wheat & Chaff

I didn’t discern
salt from snow
As I counted
Flecks of white

Strewn across
The basin and
range of
your collarbones

Conclusion
Ashley Dec 2012
Never have I been able
to place my finger on where
my trouble sits
deep inside my flesh
lodged in like a weary traveler
finally able to rest,

I do not know the reasons
for why he entered into my life
holding great felicity
delicately as if it were
the only precious gem in the world,

I ponder the answers to why
I will never hear another tap against
my window pane
or hear him speak the syllables
of my name,

For he is gone and the one
to never return with
jouissance dwelling in
the palm of his tired hands.

Lullaby
Ashley Nov 2012
Exhausted
somewhat cold
thoughts fall to your toes,

lips and every part
in between
my small hands fit into yours,

spaces
make me gray
slipping into melodies,

of piano keys
slow dancing
away,

I float delicately
as smoke takes me to
another place,

our sun shines
only when
the stars gleam,

as do your eyes when
you sing my mind
to sleep.

Autumn
Ashley Nov 2012
Love is a walk around the autumn pond
My heart resides on the paper in my pocket
I almost wrapped it in a box
To leave at your doorstep

Your cologne and cigarettes stain my hair
When you wrap me in the fabric of your forearms
Lets sit on leaf-scattered grass
Hold a picnic in the middle of December
Lets bring French coffee and pancakes

Too

Much is never enough
As I tattooed feathers on my arms
They are your feathers
Dipped in the ink
From the sonnets you wrote to me
On my paper in the front pocket
Of these worn in jeans.

Kiss.
Ashley Nov 2012
I could have kissed you
up against the stained wall
when no one was looking
and the lights were shining neon.

I could have kissed you
walking up the granite steps
on the roof of the music building
when the stars seemed perfect
and I was drunk.

I could have kissed you on my cerulean sheets
with your tan arm wrapped around my bones
where the music was faintly dancing
and I realized you had lovely hazel eyes.

but I kissed you in the basement
where you held me without force
and the kisses were lyrical
as they trailed down my neck
I fell for the gentleness of your hands
and the sweet smile on your face.
