Poets are addicts
Haikus are our gateway drugs
Words are our vices

Without them, we shake
Writer's block, our withdrawal
Our pens— the needle

A poem a day, a poem a day
Your poems aren’t that great, they say
A poem a day, a poem a day
Keeps the monsters at bay
So I guess I’ll write them down anyway

I write about the darkness
I don’t write enough about the light
The light will always shine
The sun pulls through
All you have to do is look up
See the sky
Whether its day or night
The darkness is there
Fragments from the past
Trying to leave it behind
The dark and the light
They will always intertwine
Finding balance
Keeping them in battle
Trying to find the light
Seeing sun beams seep through
I dance between the two

Words disappear
Letters blend together
Lost in the past
Please don’t let this last forever

Do not fear the shifting sand

under the weight of your feet.

For you may not know balance,

without the test of instability.

what does it feel like to be held
not by another body
not by a set of limbs, a chest, a chin
but
by another soul

what does it feel like
to see truth in another pair of eyes
instead of hidden intentions
instead of absence

what does it feel like
to hear a familiar heartbeat
resounding next to your own
reaching through skin
through bone
two rhythms
indistinguishable

what does it feel like
to write poems about
a love that exists
