OUR POVERTY HAS COLOUR Alexander K Opicho (Eldoret, Kenya; [email protected]) Most illusive and elusive Like the devils of Congo forest Is the impish poverty Permeating all seals with vicious wily Into the midst of callous humanity Biting country men and country women With carnivorous dentalities so ruthless Putting man to a forlorn shame As the wife looks in desperate flaggerbastation Putting matriarchal womenfolk to humiliation As the expectant sire wallow in the askance of looks Condemning communities to status ad absurdum initio Thinning man from man, culling woman from woman Eating flesh by flesh social koprpers of man Eating the native flesh in the farms of Brazil Tearing the ***** steak into ghetto lacerations of Chicago Whizzling sombre morning tunes to the Zulus in the black tundra Cementing pale casted clusters for the Patels of India Commanding suave drills to poor (wo) menfolk; left! Left! Left! –abouuuuturn! With its accomplice Mr. Hunger son of starvation, they both command drills For black factory workers, Maids and gravediggers to dance Watchmen, thieves and prostitutes to match In the hinterland of Africa all the riff-raff in deep despair Dance in a tandem to the irritating drills of the duo; You come on! Left! Right! Left! Right!—fowaaard match! Backward match! Left! Right! Left! Right! Sharpp uuuuuuuturn! The duo communiqué; Go home and wait for your pay announcement. Surely; what colour is our poverty?

our poverty has colour
For a modest subscription - say, £100 a month - you can receive my weekly newsletter outlining the manner in which I undertake to steal your jobs, besmirch your womenfolk (or menfolk, if you like), impose my religion upon you, undermine your financial system, eat the swans in your local park, raise/lower house prices (as your current need dictates), contribute to a nameless sense of dread, dilute your cherished national identity and produce more illiterate children than the welfare state can reasonably support. I will do you this service on the understanding that you will stop attributing blame to your undeserving neighbours and get on with your life like a decent human being.

A Proposition for Readers of the Daily Mail
If men were born as womenfolk And women born as men, And oxen shied of bonded yoke To plough no fields again If blighted lands burned black with rage Came verdant with the rain, The world might turn another page And there find peace again

These Blighted Lands
I) Eve Eve became Foolishly bold To give up Her faith in God. Exhibiting lust For a tantalizing apple She opted to be A dust; Heeding a snake- Incarnated Devil’s word “If you eat The forbidden fruit You will acquire Wisdom on par with God.” Duped by Satan Unfaithful, disobedient She turned a reason For the lapse of man. For lacking faith She heard, With jealousy Her son Kane ****** Her son Abel To death! “Eve tarnished The image Of the womenfolk!” We usually hear In a religious talk! II) Saint Mary From Birth to death Unwavering was In God Saint Mary’s faith. In her youth, Blind to earthly Allurements, When summoned To serve God Happy she drew forth “Displaying alacrity To the call of The Almighty Is my pleasure My duty!” Saint Mary knew Miracles untold Is capable to do God. Acid tested like Aglow set gold Threatened by Herod’s sword Scorned by hypocrites Hoary headed Christ killers Her faith she never Failed to tightly hold. In Golgotha The whiplashes all Were scars on her soul! Unlike many of us It is not like a fiction Or movie script She witnessed Christ’s crucifixion. She reconciled Man and God, Till to date And down the road This miracle will be told. She allowed a pride Womenfolk could ride. In the catalog of grace As she won a higher place In God’s face Above angels and Below God Is the row She was Allowed to hold. Like Saint Gabriel in the sky Like Elizabeth on earth Angels and human beings Praise her why? Doubt have not I She is Holy In a way description That defy! III) Devil Duping Eve The control on man Devil got Thanks to Saint Mary ‘s obedience, Before he realized   The mystery of incarnation, He lost. For via God- Saint Mary’s Chemistry mankind Is snatched from Devil’s grip and fold. To retaliate To belittle Saint Mary Still a python A snake, A sanctimonious preacher, A faithful That has gone astray Devil makes A frantic bid to date. In various religious forms He seeks a vent To disgorge His hate. Oblivious to The Virgin's word “Generations will Call me The graceful, the immaculate…” IV) God Via Saint Mary Once more The Almighty God Drew close Mankind to his fold! “For use and throw God use Saints!” Is the worst mistake Believers  could make Eating the poisonous cake Devil in various Religious forms bake.///

A young and beautiful, but wretched soul, Dreamt in an enchanted world of her own, With enraptured stallions and unicorns, Far away from the brutal world so widely known, But little did she know, the doom of her fantasy land is close. Long was the string of her heartfelt desires, She wanted to gaze at the infinite stars, And eagerly waited to whoosh to Mars, Away from negativities and deep scars, But little did she know, she'd always be on the radar. Incessant lookouts for an escape, Made her wearied, sick and frail, It was then that the realisation kicked her brain, For what is she suffering so much pain? For a world that is best at growing only wolf's bane? After a month of Sundays, time finally chipped in, When she could take the world out for a spin, To vanquish the conventionality like a fiery levin, Now was the time to declare that she won't take it on the chin, And little did the world know of its approaching ruin. Prepared to confront the imposed tyranny one-on-one, She took it by surprise like a curve ball, Then the insurgence began bold and tall, "Why are women objectified as puppet dolls? Why do taboos exist only for womenfolk?" Appalled by her fearless defiance, The world warned her against such resistance, And swore to banish her existence, The girl merely snorted and said "to hell with your dominance", And little did the world know, it'd be soon thrown into a vortex. Shining from within like a blaze of sunlight, Powered up by vexation from her plight, She broke the ancient shields of the dark skies, And swallowed the ossified world with plumes of her divine light, Yet little did she know, she has pioneered a new set of star lights. ©Sri.Mun

I lost my Left leg at Bull Run and came home from the war. With a peg I managed farm work; unfit for battle; not for chores. My neighbor, Reid, did also bleed in that War Between the States. His right leg was mangled below the knee- they had to amputate. Now, each year, we go into town and buy one pair of shoes. My neighbor, Reid, wears the same size and likes the boots I choose. We’ve become fast friends, the two of us; our children something more. My son has bought a ring to give to the girl who lives next door. In wartime we were enemies; fighting for the Blue and Gray. Now our womenfolk make plans for our children’s wedding day. Here, in the autumn of our lives, all enmity is defused. Each has learned to know and love his foe- by walking in his shoe.
