Phir teri mohabbat yaad aayi Phir mera bilagna yaad aaya… Phir teri naseehat yaad aayi Tera raub wa jalwa yaad aaya… Tune jitni jheli takleefein Us dard ka ehsaas yaad aaya… Tune zindagi bhar jo bhi kiya Tera jud o karam sab yaad aaya. .... Teri kaawishein teri koshishein Tera jaan lagana yaad aaya. ... Teri neikiyan tere khair amal.. Tera pyaar lutana yaad aaya... Teri hayaat se seekhe hain jo jo... Har ek sabaq woh yaad aaya. ... Tera muskata har dam chehra... Woh roshan nazara yaad aaya. .... Ba vaqaar jo jhele gham tune... Tera sabr se sehna yaad aaya…. Teri zinda dili teri saada dili... Deen' mein thos aqeedah yaad aaya. .... Beta, bhai, shohar, walid ** ya dost Har ek farz nibhana yaad aaya. .... “Ain" tum bhi amanat daari karo... Usne hi seekhaya......yaad aaya..??? Phir mera tadapna yaad aaya... Lamha rukhsat ka jo yaad aaya… Ae Firoz tu aisi misaal bana..... Jaane kitnon ko tu yaad aaya. ....

Yaad aaya...
This Distant Light by Walid Khazindar loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch Bitterly cold, winter clings to the naked trees. If only you would free the bright sparrows from your fingertips and release a smile―that shy, tentative smile― from the imprisoned anguish I see. Sing! Can we not sing as if we were warm, hand-in-hand, sheltered by shade from a sweltering sun? Can you not always remain this way, stoking the fire: more beautiful than expected, in reverie? Darkness increases and we must remain vigilant since this distant light is our sole consolation ... this imperiled flame, which from the beginning has constantly flickered, in danger of going out. Come to me, closer and closer. I don't want to be able to tell my hand from yours. And let's stay awake, lest the snow smother us. Walid Khazindar was born in Gaza City. He is considered to be one of the very best Palestinian poets; his poetry has been said to be "characterized by metaphoric originality and a novel thematic approach unprecedented in Arabic poetry." He was awarded the first Palestine Prize for Poetry in 1997. Keywords/Tags: Arabic, translation, Arab, Palestine, Palestinian, Gaza, distant, light, flame, fire, autumn, winter, trees, birds, sparrows, fingertips, smile, sing, shade, sun, fire, darkness, hand, hands, snow

Walid Khazindar "Distant Light" translation
I wear white I wear white I wear white and stare right back at the other end of the world The hems of the loosely fitting traditions Barely touch the ground anymore I wear white I wear white White like the chalk on the blackboard switched from right to left. Aimless and bereft of the desert I once called mine, I walk alone I wear white, I wear white As I have done for 14 hours and 14 years 7000 miles on the screen and 2 more up there to be precise. It faded for every mile Just as it has been doing since the day Darwish died I wear white, I wear white A different breed of Semite than they're used to Not walking but flowing almost as contradictory as "poutine Arabesque" The routine wears my jaw out as the vowels twist from right to left I wear white, I wear white Not just quite there yet Not even close Not even halfway to the surface but then again I suppose we've always been at ease at the depths of the sea Pearls and black gold abound I forget that sometimes in between intermittent bouts and doubts of "3arabiyun ana" As if that's what makes up the anatomy of an Arab As if that's enough for you, Khaled I wear white I wear white Or at least I tell myself I do Leave myself open to the prospect of life starting anew Forcing myself to see it through See life through your eyes Or are they my own **** you ? Tell me for the love of Christ Call me by name and don't bury me under the empty discarded photo frames that you stockpile I'm calling to you, Walid And will keep on calling And trying and burning and aching and failing and dreaming and irritating like a bad itch I sink under it all and push it all off step 3 repeat as necessary I scream in the tongue that you deafen your ears to and pull at the beard you've tried to shave off I pluck at the horizontal heartstrings you've tried to mute Above all, I wear white... And I fight.... I fight..... I FIGHT

Fasana bayan kr raha hoon apni rooh k hoslo ka.. Mujh gareeb..nacheez ko manzilo ka nishan mila..ye karam tha mere kuch azeez doston ka Apne hoslo k dum pe.. Jhoojhta raha Zindagi se.. Main subah shaam.. din raat.. Hunar ki kalam se hi likhoonga apni taqdeer..Jigar me dhaan li thi ye baat Zakhm khata raha Dil par bahut waqt tak.. Walid ka kaha maan kar.. K baccha bana rahega toh bacha rahega..saare sabak zeher ki tarah peeta raha..sabhi ko apna maan kar Seekhne ki koi umra nahi yaaro.. Har pal ye zindagi naya sabak seekhayegi.. Dil khol k jholi bhar lena..jeewan roopi kashti yehi paar lagayegi Mushqil daur me kai martaba mehsoos ki.. Maine khuda ki maujoodgi apni bagal me.. Uska sehlana..mere sir aur meri kamar me.. Kandha numa sirhana diya kai dafa usne sisakti rooh ko.. Dilasa diya..Tujhe mazboot banane ko imtihan le raha hoon tera intaha tak..Tu hosla rakh..Main hoon toh! Waqt ne bhar diya sabhi zakhmo ko marham bankar.. Namak jo baha tha aakhon se..woh mere pairo ki zameen..sir ki chat ban gaya hai chankar Har pal shukrana karta hu khuda teri rehmat ka.. Dua kubul krta hai tu sabhi ki apne dar pe..karz hum adaa kr nahi sakte..teri is zehmat ka Meri sabhi doston ko ek maskeen hidayat hai..
