"tributes" poems
Working parts and mechanisms, charts and graphs and mannerisms, a table, pencil, square and mitre... eraser marks, sweat drops, -go lighter! A thought or two and ponderance... Decimal here and decimal there, -micron adjustment now we're square... Up all night until daylight dawn and finally I've fixed the Krong! A thought or two and ponderance... To the factory arrive before eight and finished, furnished, a model late... A handheld one and something larger, humanity saved by my charger! A thought or two and ponderance... 10 years long after planet saved, They'll be parades and accolades... Statues, tributes, my name in text-books, but no one, never, a second look! Never to worry on life again... ..I did it, I reset the world; begin. And did it all with Earth's mighty spin.

My body is frozen and my heart is filled with dread, I see her shock with the shaking of her head, I screamed out “NO” and offered to take Prim’s place, Effie called his name to and we went up with haste, They took us to a room where we said our goodbyes, I promised to win as I started to cry, The group was quiet as we boarded the train, I meet out mentor Haymitch and he seemed far from sane, We meet the other tributes all different in size, Some seemed very foolish but other seemed wise, We practice all day to make sure we were fit, For the pain we will endure will be far worse than just a hit, I know I should save Peeta as a repayment of my debt, But I remember my promise to prim and I’m filled with regret, After I say goodbye to Cinna I see the Arena and feel pain, Why did Peeta and I both have to be in the Hunger games.

My hips used to be my favorite part of my body. But now they are the only place that I can hide the scarlet lines I carved into my own skin. Now they are just tributes to my self harm.

for vicki who loves this poem for the best reason ever: just does... <•> read a thousand love stories, pause, rest awhile, read ten thousand more, and then deny equality. If you ask for no more than you can give, you ask for not enough love is imbalance not an equation, with a single solution love has both constants and variable factors so you write of tribulations and tributes so you write of lamentations and liftings you think you are on the same page perhaps but do we not all read at different paces? one of you is solid, one is dotted and dashed one of you is straight, one is bent, forever curving when you think you are in balance in the same place in syncopation perhaps you are for a moment a calculus of one point on a trajectory and you say I can only ask for what I give and am given and no more, you have miscalculated this flux flummoxed when the old terrain is flayed flat but thru the windshield you see the plateau ends, the geography unknown, when you see unknown when you seek the unknown when you give from places you did not know you had to give from when you kiss a hand for  twenty minutes more than than the one minute you intended when you give more than is asked when you ask for more than you can you think you can give the imbalance that  is the only concert the imbalance that is the the only constant how do I know this? what are my credentials? you are not a teenage girl, what matters of what you know, recall of these matters? I am who I am a diversity of man and manner; I am past prime and in decline but this I know for having failed ten thousand poem times you must ask for more than one can give but that's not fair! silly one, still wretched confused, even after one hundred thousand poem times you must ask of yourself more than you can give and ask no less demand no less a body in emotion is not a body in rest when the imbalance is too great or insufficient then you write a poem look in the mirror that cannot lie and move on or move off   begin to ask yourself to whom may I give myself more than is asked. then you have finally asked the correct solution to the unsolvable equation ---

Parents assembled cameras at the ready the graduates march with mortarboards tassled. Faculty tributes ever glowing praises but graduates listen with an eye to the prize. Pomp and Circumstance playing throughout the gym while graduates ignore with hopes for a cupcake. Kindergarten bites.

GIRL, Your skin sings tributes to your ancestors Those that even through noose Fought for their freedom Each vein and stretchmark A tribute to the stripes of each whip Your smile sings a sweet song Of him who on the cross ended all struggle Him who through lovingkindness, draws you in. Girl, if only you knew, how more than enough you truly are! Girl You matter. Because by the stripes of him that healed You were made whole Made anew. And thus the debate ended, you matter. Girl. Gold and silver battle ***** torn from swords saddles and crosses lying beneath a farmer's field tributes to kings and bellicose gods. Fierce birds of prey snakes fish and bears framed in filigree geometry guarded warriors' savage souls. No mercy in Mercia. Archeologists anthropologists historians librarians curators and consertvators collect confer and classify while I just try to connect.

Somewhere in your wardrobe, I'd be willing to bet There's a t-shirt probably bearing the silhouette of Che Guevara He was revolutionary, yeah, he wore a cool hat But behind the design I think you might find it's not quite as simple as that Che was a bit of a homophobe, Che was a bit of a homophobe, I think... apparently.. who knows? Che was a bit of a homophobe, Che was a bit of a homophobe This is my song in defence of the fence A little sing along, a anthem to ambivalence The more you know, the harder you will find it To make up your mind, it, doesn't really matter if you find You can't see which grass is greener Chances are it's neither, and either way it's easier To see the difference, when you're sitting on the fence Somewhere in your house, I'd be willing to bet There's a picture of that grinning hippy from Tibet - the Dalai Llama He's a lovely, funny fella, he gives soundbites galore But let's not forget that back in Tibet, those funky monks used to **** the poor, yeah And the Buddhist line about future lives is the perfect way to stop the powerless rising up And he tells the poor they will live again, but he's rich now so it's easy for him to say I'm taking the stand in defense of the fence I got a little band playing anthems to ambivalence We divide the world into terrorists and heroes Into normal folk and weirdos Into good people and pedo's Into things that give you cancer and the things that cure cancer And the things that don't cause cancer, but there's a chance they will cause cancer in the future We divide the world to stop us feeling frightened Into wrong and into right and Into black and into white and Into real men and fairies Into status quo and scary Yeah we want the world binary, binary But it's not that simple. *I sit and read the HP site and observe a teardrop's course Engaged in deepest revelry and when it dies, remorse. I listen to the rustle of the rhymes in swaying Poetrees... And revel in the sweet caress of every whispered breeze The sweetness of a sentence every stanza, works of art The rhymes that touch my soul and lo, the rhythm that beats from heart. The lullabies so sweet and soft that gentle me to sleep The love tributes, as I nod off while counting them as sheep.*

Everybody is dying, some faster than others, alcoholics gambling with fate, drinking every last drop of death, while cancerous tributes weep every hour. It's God's way... of saying we are not in control. Science says we know it all but a new disease, can cause infertility, can cause insanity, even suffocation. The millions we leave are spent, our funeral is grand, our memories are laughs, our families content, it all ends.

Though frost and snow lock’d from mine eyes That beauty which without door lies, Thy gardens, orchards, walks, that so I might not all thy pleasures know, Yet, thou within thy gate Art of thyself so delicate, So full of native sweets, that bless Thy roof with inward happiness, As neither from nor to thy store Winter takes aught, or spring adds more. The cold and frozen air had starv’d Much poor, if not by thee preserv’d, Whose prayers have made thy table blest With plenty, far above the rest. The season hardly did afford Coarse cates unto thy neighbors’ board, Yet thou hadst dainties, as the sky Had only been thy volary; Or else the birds, fearing the snow Might to another Deluge grow, The pheasant, partridge, and the lark Flew to thy house, as to the Ark. The willing ox of himself came Home to the slaughter, with the lamb, And every beast did thither bring Himself, to be an offering. The scaly herd more pleasure took, Bath’d in thy dish, than in the brook; Water, earth, air, did all conspire To pay their tributes to thy fire, Whose cherishing flames themselves divide Through every room, where they deride The night, and cold aboard; whilst they, Like suns within, keep endless day. God made Eve and she is the testimony, Of what Eve could herself be The smile on her face, zillion emotions in disguise The twinkle in her eyes, only speaks of love no lies A mother, a sister, a daughter, a wife and her roles multiply, But dare come a moment when she is out of time, Keeping her world at the back she always moves ahead She will laugh and she will cry, She will burn and she will light up the fire If only we could be possibly be an inch tall of her will that has no heights, We would have still given up trying after some time One Super Woman she is, an epitome of how godly Eve can be Thousand tributes may fall short, but you'll never be less of words Having one like her in your life, And you may be writing this again the nth time!

“The Maiden” Over her long legs, Hips sway in a salacious manner, As she strolls, Past the gaggle of gentlemen, Mustering the valor to face, Their glances varying from curiosity, To disgust, Perhaps intrigue as these men, Behold this exotic form of femininity. An aura of mystery emanates, From a tenderly warm demeanor, Welcoming the viewers, Who encounter this daughter of Aphrodite, Capturing attention regardless of, One’s alleged reasoning. Intrepid knights receive the blessing, To witness the hazel windows, Into a maiden’s soul, Deeply adorned with unbidden intensity, Bestowing a small glimpse, Into a beguiling beauty, Mistaken as a cozening siren, To an untrained eye. Many chaps desire her, Until revelations bereave these fellows, Of security interwoven into the fabric, Of society sewn with fine threads, Uniting into an existence of conformity. Some licentious men lunge, At the maiden, Gaping at what these fellows, Observe as a tantalizing goddess, Desiring to place lascivious hands, Upon her soft skin. Misguided stories allow life to be given, To glaring spectators, Spewing jeers of rancor, Bemused as the unknown, Deftly saunters near, The valley of Oblivion. Like the majestic Mona Lisa, The maiden consists of subtle nuances, Painting her tributes behind cryptic techniques, Allowing one to inspect her façade, Learning her similarities to the wind, Feeling her spirit, Rather than glancing upon visual proof. For Sam Cook and Michael Lee While standing at Marshall and 140th the lightning over the horizon begs me to come to it it's like the flickering streetlights, seeming like silent firefights, simply asking to be looked for. When I still elementary, I used to watch the sky as the bolts shocked the earth and I'd count: one two three Until I heard the boom and crack of thunder three miles away, at least, the fourth graders said each second was a mile it could have been true, it could have not, yet still I watch the light. The flickering of the fading streetlamp tells me that this moment is not going to last forever that it will not be heavenly or touchable, but it is there and it wants you to touch the light as it flickers like a strobe light like kids playing with the tabs of flashlights and like the first discovery of light switches and I'm reaching out so far. Trying to grab hold of a piece of simplicity, of normal, of what I can always find: Mistakes and wounds and trying to hold on Because lately, it seems like the only places we want to flicker are in the clubs. Standing on a planet where illness and difference are cause enough to torch cities. We like to light the fires and we like to watch them burn, but we could care less about what their burning and it seems like the dark ages came and stayed, But like tributes to Guy Fawkes say: *A man can be killed and forgotten, but four hundred years later an idea can still change the world* So I think as I stand at that intersection watching the streetlights and the night's light bulbs flicker on and off like the light in my head I can feel my fingertips prickle and I seize that moment to reach for the lamppost and final destination those kids are flipping tabs faster and faster my hair is at attention and I can feel the race. For a second, everything slows down. The streetlight stops flickering as my fingertips come upon it and the lightning illuminates the sky I can feel the breeze push my hair to this minutes path and for a second, I have something. I pull my fingers away from the light and it returns to its flicker the lightning fades away and the boom comes in. And here, standing at what once for me was Marshall and 140th I realize, that all I have is all I'll ever claim to know

Streetlights
For Sam Cook and Michael Lee While standing at Marshall and 140th the lightning over the horizon begs me to come to it it's like the flickering streetlights, seeming like silent firefights, simply asking to be looked for. When I still elementary, I used to watch the sky as the bolts shocked the earth and I'd count: one two three Until I heard the boom and crack of thunder three miles away, at least, the fourth graders said each second was a mile it could have been true, it could have not, yet still I watch the light. The flickering of the fading streetlamp tells me that this moment is not going to last forever that it will not be heavenly or touchable, but it is there and it wants you to touch the light as it flickers like a strobe light like kids playing with the tabs of flashlights and like the first discovery of light switches and I'm reaching out so far. Trying to grab hold of a piece of simplicity, of normal, of what I can always find: Mistakes and wounds and trying to hold on Because lately, it seems like the only places we want to flicker are in the clubs. Standing on a planet where illness and difference are cause enough to torch cities. We like to light the fires and we like to watch them burn, but we could care less about what their burning and it seems like the dark ages came and stayed, But like tributes to Guy Fawkes say: *A man can be killed and forgotten, but four hundred years later an idea can still change the world* So I think as I stand at that intersection watching the streetlights and the night's light bulbs flicker on and off like the light in my head I can feel my fingertips prickle and I seize that moment to reach for the lamppost and final destination those kids are flipping tabs faster and faster my hair is at attention and I can feel the race. For a second, everything slows down. The streetlight stops flickering as my fingertips come upon it and the lightning illuminates the sky I can feel the breeze push my hair to this minutes path and for a second, I have something. I pull my fingers away from the light and it returns to its flicker the lightning fades away and the boom comes in. And here, standing at what once for me was Marshall and 140th I realize, that all I have is all I'll ever claim to know

Tributes to the Man live for humour and giggle
read a thousand love stories, pause, rest awhile, read ten thousand more, and then deny equality. If you ask for no more than you can give, you ask for not enough love is imbalance not an equation, with a single solution love has both constants and variable factors so you write of tribulations and tributes so you write of lamentations and liftings you think you are on the same page perhaps but do we not all read at different paces? one of you is solid, one is dotted and dashed one of you is straight, one is bent, forever curving when you think you are in balance in the same place in syncopation perhaps you are for a moment a calculus of one point on a trajectory and you say I can only ask for what I give and am given and no more, you have miscalculated this flux flummoxed when the old terrain is flayed flat but thru the windshield you see the plateau ends, the geography unknown, when you see unknown when you seek the unknown when you give from places you did not know you had to give from when you kiss a hand for  twenty minutes more than than the one minute you intended when you give more than is asked when you ask for more than you can you think you can give the imbalance is the only concert the imbalance is the the only constant how do I know this? what are my credentials? you are not a teenage girl, what matters of what you know of these matters? I am who I am a diversity of man and manner I am past prime and in decline but this I know for having failed ten thousand poem times you must ask for more than one can give but that's not fair! silly one, still wretched confused, even after one hundred thousand poem times you must ask of yourself more than you can give and ask no less demand no less a body in emotion is not a body in rest when the imbalance is too great or insufficient then you write a poem look in the mirror that cannot lie and move on or move off and begin to ask yourself to whom may I give myself more than is asked then you have finally asked the correct solution to the unsolvable equation

Autumn Robins ..
All those little trinkets, bracelets, rings and even a boombox, that he had others bring to me, They were all stolen goods that vexed people would come and claim back time after time. I never had the heart to tell him to stop. He reminded me too much of a stray cat who’d finally found a temporary home, where he would bring tributes to his mistress feet. When I asked him what he was doing sleeping outside my front door. He blushed and mumbled, that he would protect me from bad guys who could break in and steal me away. How crazy and scary of a notion was that? And yet.... He made me think of a dancing bear who finally could scent freedom without chains. The day when they came to take him away. ... I tried to tell them that he would never hurt me. That he merely collected broken shards of scattered treasures that deep inside him spoke about who he really was, before the drugs castrated his future self. Later... When going through the rubble he left behind, I found the glimmer of a hauberk forged for an Avalonian knight.

As we very reluctantly parted, he queried whether he was just another of my whims. Ignorantly, I replied I guessed so, provided we never saw each other again. Erm. Months later the fire is still burning brightly in the absence of any good reason. Interesting eh? Needing a topic as usual, and weary of nature tributes (hahaha, can you believe it?!) I tackled this beloved thread, writing it in the present tense as if from our first days then altering to the present in the second (linked) sonnet. (sonnet #'s CCCCXLVIII, CCCCXLIX) You play my heartstrings like a puppeteer Methinks. Quite deftly pluck and gently twang To immelod'ous strains whilst I half hang 'Twixt hope and fear, life's balance near Precar'ous in that cur'ous dance. By mere Sweet words or grim I'm tossed, a boomerang That can't be lost to you though ev'ry pang Estranges reason in this game too dear. All yours because those unseen chords have caught My heart that like a harp you seem to use, As sans my will, in strumming half distraught Or with such ecstasies, howe'er you choose You ply, in your winds varied whims 'non fraught, This hapless leaf. To what end? Just t'amuse? # II To what end? Just t'amuse, we tried romance? Who fell in love? I did. Did you? In vain? Oh, why'd we play that game? What now remains? Behold: a live coal, frosted black, whose stance Seems quite the opposite; wherein the dance Of Love's hot passion plays anon, aye reigns Sans you, and any reason. Its refrain Nigh hopeless, sings your name where none supplants. Because you knew it would. You told me so. And while I scoffed, that's how it goes, I see. Who ******* that hopeful thread, oh sweetness Beau? 'Twas "love at first sight," a rare golden key. That never quite died but e'er seems to glow. Come take your mind on down with me . let our bodies be canvases to the tributes of our lives. leave our old stories like tattered and worn baggages by the door. be each others savior for awhile. a old lover's lament. not trying to fill in each other's water color dreams, with lies or half obligated promises. and finally when the late afternoon comes to swallow our worn innocence. close the door. leave unsaid the words that must be said. return us both with some dignity to the outskirts of our lives.

Tryna brave the belly of the beast But this enemy of me Has got hands- I’ve never metaphor for anxiety Like this one Imposter syndrome- I was only a dark forest away from who I needed to be But feelings of self-doubt and inadequacy Are twisting clouds so forebodingly  Mara’s army fires arrows Raining streams of self-consciousness Like I wasn’t ready to self destruct on impact - detonation I laugh and share memes of self-deprecation Social media the new god Where we worship ourselves By constantly trying to impress everyone else Venmo me Dopamine tributes With the truth in a cave of depression and Isolation Maybe Holly’s right And I do need to be here She shines the light On the darkness In the hospital wing 5th floor at Evanston But I’m afraid I’ve grown too codependent On this astral plane I’ve projected And romanticized these Ambien nights Only to awake neglected Screaming out her name In sleep paralysis On a dark night- When I’m manic I try to live it out like I’m in a movie Projecting inner struggles As external conflicts To make the scene more interesting Until I’m in this final battle alone like Odysseus Lost all my friends when the monster ate our ship and I took em for granted caught up Between a rock and a hard place- Depressed and Hyper-sexualization when spring is here again I’m in the first act dip edging the ****** Stimulating the simulation
