Ah vastness of pines, murmur of waves breaking, slow play of lights, solitary bell, twilight falling in your eyes, toy doll, earth-shell, in whom the earth sings! In you the rivers sing and my soul flees in them as you desire, and you send it where you will. Aim my road on your bow of hope and in a frenzy I will flee my flock of arrows. On all sides I see your waist of fog, and your silence hunts down my afflicted hours; my kisses anchor, and my moist desire nests in your arms of transparent stone. Ah your mysterious voice that love tolls and darkens in the resonant and dying evening! Thus in the deep hours I have seen, over the fields, the ears of wheat tolling in the mouth of the wind

Ah Vastness of Pines
I was thinking of a son. The womb is not a clock nor a bell tolling, but in the eleventh month of its life I feel the November of the body as well as of the calendar. In two days it will be my birthday and as always the earth is done with its harvest. This time I hunt for death, the night I lean toward, the night I want. Well then-- It was in the womb all along. I was thinking of a son ... You! The never acquired, the never seeded or unfastened, you of the genitals I feared, the stalk and the puppy's breath. Will I give you my eyes or his? Will you be the David or the Susan? (Those two names I picked and listened for.) Can you be the man your fathers are-- the leg muscles from Michelangelo, hands from Yugoslavia somewhere the peasant, Slavic and determined, somewhere the survivor bulging with life-- and could it still be possible, all this with Susan's eyes? All this without you-- two days gone in blood. I myself will die without baptism, a third daughter they didn't bother. My death will come on my name day. What's wrong with the name day? It's only an angel of the sun. Woman, weaving a web over your own, a thin and tangled poison. Scorpio, bad spider-- die! My death from the wrists, two name tags, blood worn like a corsage to bloom one on the left and one on the right-- It's a warm room, the place of the blood. Leave the door open on its hinges! Two days for your death and two days until mine. Love! That red disease-- year after year, David, you would make me wild! David! Susan! David! David! full and disheveled, hissing into the night, never growing old, waiting always for you on the porch ... year after year, my carrot, my cabbage, I would have possessed you before all women, calling your name, calling you mine.

This crew of darkness; Blackbird Gang. I shouldn’t always feel like this, feel such solemn pain, …troubling and trouble is these birds are driving me insane! I’m screaming now! I’m mad with rage! Throwing ice cubes at my deck, “Go away! Yes, go away!” -their numbers must be kept in check. Blackhole-whirl, flying twirling darkness, their funnel it points to me-e-e-e-! For too many is too painful and my mind’s a constant wreck! One cannot think with those infernal be-e-e-asts, ...and the crazy song they sang. Why do they so punish me? The crew of darkness; Blackbird Gang. I know they serve the Saturn’s wheel and now they’ve come for me. What did I do? Oh what great sin, oh the blackbirds from within; The Abyssimal Sea? Their whirlpool funnel is all around, as my harried soul, it expiates. I’m done-in; I’m over now, a sorely victim of the Fates! They took me, took me away, when the tolling bell it rang. Why could they not leave me alone? The crew of darkness; Blackbird Gang. If you find yourself all alone and mired in their thought, …do not think, extirpate, all the human damage that you’ve wrought. His flock of fledgling melancholy musical formation, …will take you away and straight to Hell; the Seventh Circle congregation! For they took me, took me away, when the tolling bell it rang. A Crowing Lamentation

gulls and terns spin in the air as waves lullaby the sleepy dreamers with grand tales and rich promise of paradise to be found just over the horizons edge sailors eye to the swift wind sure hand to tackle and line hearty men of salted liquid soil grown to giants in the breakwaters thunder but gentle that hands heart when the tolling bell calls out the names of the lost and the sea has swept away all but her witnessed tale to leave the widows and forlorn child to carve name to wall and mourn past midnight now a dead calm and cloudless sky reigns with a majesty of brilliant starlight upon this sea reflecting the heavens slow march i lay like a supplicant muted by the spectacle to souls hunger this moment and place shows a deeper meaning to thouse souls with eyes to see a dead calm and cloudless sky reigns with a majesty of brilliant starlight the old salt sailor breaks into deep song that sooths and lends hardy meal to the heart hold fast young lad hold fast the morning rushing forward brings the breaking wave and unfolds sail with quick wind and the sailors eye rejoices with merry songs to measure the hour and jauntily bring our fair seabird back to her warm home sea and sand in the salt sailors blood and a kind heart guides the way

While the stars, that oversprinkle All the heavens, seem to twinkle With a crystalline delight; Keeping time, time, time, In a sort of Runic rhyme, To the tintinnabulation that so musically wells From the bells, bells, bells, bells, Bells, bells, bells— From the jingling and the tinkling of the bells. II. Hear the mellow wedding bells, Golden bells! What a world of happiness their harmony foretells! Through the balmy air of night How they ring out their delight! From the molten golden-notes, And all in tune, What a liquid ditty floats To the turtle-dove that listens, while she gloats On the moon! Lottery?
The nakedness of winter lies heavy upon the tolling Sunday quietude Shed  leaves perish into yesterday and the dream of another dawning  someday wanes The  sun ― lay low the drudging  ashen  skyline   Barerd emerald moss scaffolds draw much more distantness to the pallid shadowed horizon The evergreens step forth, roots grasping sacred heart, soil  and  rock In the swelling aloneness you can feel the grain of  the  heartwood rooted in your soul There are no hard feelings but there's an enduring ache, like a tree with a rotting limb languishing  within its blackened bark sacrifice It's not just the grinding time that slips away begrudgingly; more of the same takes a toll  as if another unrung belfry hour in an empty bell tower without a song rang out in vain, peeling  reflections of reluctant hours  c r a w l  by in the insensible apathy A so called holiday passes ― its footprint bears down hard  and  deep as if a paling winter rose grieves its own passing A dry wishbone unbroken lay bare the poignant truth  it  holds; it takes two to make this wish come true .

P-Postponing all those things until another time R-Rostering them for attention down the track O-Offering all sorts of excuses stalls one's climb C-Constantly one defers the mounting job stack R-Repeatedly ignoring their pealing bell chimes A-Acting upon them requires an assertive knack S-Still one avers in responding to their rhymes T-Taking not a step forward nor any back I-Initiative and get in and do it isn't one's paradigm N-Never does one heed their ever tolling clacks A-Always sitting in an idle non moving show time T-The day shall arrive with a great waking whack I-Into motion one shall soon be called to climb O-On one's toes the chores are waiting in the rack N-No more disregarding the many sounding chimes

Procrastination (Acrostic Poem)
So it has come to this insomnia at 3:15 A.M., the clock tolling its engine like a frog following a sundial yet having an electric seizure at the quarter hour. The business of words keeps me awake. I am drinking cocoa, that warm brown mama. I would like a simple life yet all night I am laying poems away in a long box. It is my immortality box, my lay-away plan, my coffin. All night dark wings flopping in my heart. Each an ambition bird. The bird wants to be dropped from a high place like Tallahatchie Bridge. He wants to light a kitchen match and immolate himself. He wants to fly into the hand of Michelangelo and dome out painted on a ceiling. He wants to pierce the hornet's nest and come out with a long godhead. He wants to take bread and wine and bring forth a man happily floating in the Caribbean. He wants to be pressed out like a key so he can unlock the Magi. He wants to take leave among strangers passing out bits of his heart like hors d'oeuvres. He wants to die changing his clothes and bolt for the sun like a diamond. He wants, I want. Dear God, wouldn't it be good enough to just drink cocoa? I must get a new bird and a new immortality box. There is folly enough inside this one.

The Ambition Bird
Necklace of rope around your neck, Cold sparkled your tears, Mingling in our kisses, Drawing out fears. Blood crows' broken beak, Moonlight mourning the free. Your glimm'ring eyes, 'Ere eve of death, Last thing mine heart aches to see. Strange things happen here, Under the Hanging Tree. *"String me up! Lest apartheid influence separation, String me up love! Sing me songs of silence, kiss away segregation!"* My voice unwavered, Decaying church bell tolling twelve, Cold, cracked fingers fumbling rope. Moon lighting the way, The wind whispering,"hopeless," Frigid lies hope. The Hanging Tree [Version Two]
Verse 1 Why do I have this haunted feeling? Something is moving in the shadows. Working secretly tides flow, as night steals past the day. A voice is singing to silence, a thousand petals falling windblown, the still earth will lie strange, unknown, a tolling bell brings on the night. In the fullness of a falling tear, In the garden of remembered time, In the silence sung before the song, Life will find you there. Verse 2 What moves a fallen leaf to swirling? Couples are speaking words of love songs. In the hour of the dawn's glow a rose will scent the night. Moonbeams will stir the waving waters, while feathered wings caress the breezes, and your heart sings to pierce the dark, a falling star will shed it’s light... In the fullness of a falling tear, In the garden of remembered time, In the silence sung before the song, Life will find you there. With the turning of the heaven's sky, With the dancing of the seasons by, With the yielding of a lover's sigh, Life will find you there, Life will find you there When darkness spreads from near to far, In the cascade of a falling star In the motion of a bird in flight In the sweetness of your lovers light… With the beating of your yearning heart. Signs like Gemini is to air Sagittarius is to fire a pair in this crossing with Pisces to water is Virgo for earth too We are the mutable ones!! Sunny is however we coin the calling spiraling too EYE of the One generation transmutable souls of soil ARE to earth; 'hues EYED like a butterfly, here to sample many flowers connected within a Great Spirit invoked as in wilds if peopled or things'!!! We do feel it within or without the actual considerations of the ultimate doings; 'letting go and taking the risk of trusting and depending on another'!!! God preaches, a noted Clergyman— And the sermon is never long, So instead of getting to Heaven, at last— I’m going, all along.

Some keep the Sabbath going to Church
I write in public, to be seen, I need these preppy girls, and closeted high schoolers, and trophy wives, to see me, at my laptop, clicking away. Because I'm "artistic", and "deep". I am sensitive and must be very beautiful on the inside, just like the outside. That's why I do it. It's all about the glory. If only the knew the truth, the real writing, the words that smack the inside of your skull at 3 AM when you have to be at your minimum wage job at 7. The lit you need to get out before the pressure builds up and your head explodes in a rainbow of creativity on the four walls of your too small efficiency apartment. The dark nights that make you doubt the sun will appear again O muse, you cannot be stifled. I hear your voice even in my starched white shirt and necktie noose, making lattés and serving time until The End. The End. Times wing'ed seraphim, the bell tolling, tolling, constantly, Am I doing the right thing with my life? I write in public, to be seen, I need these preppy girls, and closeted high schoolers, and trophy wives, to see me, at my laptop, clicking away. Because I'm "artistic", and "deep". I am sensitive and must be very beautiful on the inside, just like the outside. That's why I do it. It's all about the glory. If only the knew the truth, the real writing, the words that smack the inside of your skull at 3 AM when you have to be at your minimum wage job at 7. The lit you need to get out before the pressure builds up and your head explodes in a rainbow of creativity on the four walls of your too small efficiency apartment. The dark nights that make you doubt the sun will appear again O muse, you cannot be stifled. I hear your voice even in my starched white shirt and necktie noose, making lattés and serving time until The End. The End. Times wing'ed seraphim, the bell tolling, tolling, constantly, Am I doing the right thing with my life? The name was Antappan. On his wedding invitation He printed the famous words Hodie Mihi Cras Tibi - (Today it's me, tomorrow it will be you.) Whoever asked “Are you nuts, Antappaaa?” Got a voiceless laugh in reply. In native tongue The laughter said No quotes are quoted Except through one’s own life. Though not a charming name It ‘s true that from that day Antappan came to be called Hodie Mihi Cras Tibi Antappan. Everyone who attended Hodie Mihi Cras Tibi Antappan’s wedding Wolfed down the pork and the beef. Everyone who attended Hodie Mihi CrasTibi Antappan’s wedding Gifted pretty sums of money in envelopes. Everyone who attended Hodie Mihi Cras Tibi Antappan’s wedding Said nasty comments about the bride. Everyone who attended Hodie Mihi Cras Tibi Antappan’s wedding Asked the sound system guy to play You are lucky I am lucky loudly. But before that a small incident at the church. As soon as he set his eyes on Antappan who was a grave digger the Chaplain forgot the wedding and without asking who died began to set the church bell tolling in that rhythm reserved for deaths. The senior Priest who heard it came running and opening the small prayer book for the dead began to sing the song the seeds sprout in the fields when it rains. Hearing that the girls in the choir sang the rest of the song when they hear the clarion call life sprouts in the dead and went on to the prose portion I call you lord from the abysses. Seeing that the boy who helps with the communion lighted the candle and incense stick for the dead. (Meanwhile the bride’s naughty song you who is not dead yet will you not **** me tonight also rang in Hodie Mihi Cras Tibi Antappan’s ears.) Hodie Mihi Cras Tibi Antappan who realized that the same flowers meant to be wreaths at some house of death were now adorning his ***** as a garland laughed his famous voiceless laugh.

The rain falls softly on the sleeping city…. Cloaked in the blanket of a monsoon lull…. A few stray dogs scamper for shelter as the first storm of the season colours the dawn a deeper crimson….. The thunder rumbles from the north east…a deep slow sonorous sound coming from the underbellies of the moisture laden atmosphere….. The soft drizzle forms a hazy blanket of morning mist around the city…..already stirring with the first signs of life…. The resurrection of the everyday work-a-day world……. The musical tinkling of a bell echoes around as a pushcart brimming with flowers rushes down the street, hurrying to the market…fresh, preened and ready…to be sold to the highest bidder… The soft music of the approaching storm inspires a boatman, out on the holy river, to sing…… his voice echoes over the bass of the thunder……a plaintive pleasant humming……the nuances of the bhatiali fill up the empty cracks in the morning…… The rain deepens…………the drizzle expands into the monsoons first downpour… pitter-patter sings the rain, reverberating off a thousand tin roofs……the sky darkens……enveloping the dawn in its grey being….. Somewhere, someone tunes a harmonium…..clears a throat…a hand draws a curtain aside….. The peaceful reassurance of the daily azaan spreads out from the mosque…..calling the faithful to prayer….. The flower vendor…now setting up shop, attaching an extra strip of plastic sheet to fend off the rain…. Stops a moment and bows his head as the nearby tolling of a bell and the sound of a conch shell being blown announces the beginning of a new day in god’s abode…. A woman kneels down in a pew…..praying…..the calm of the church mirrored in her peaceful face….. The rain looks down at the city……..now, half awake…slowly stretching its limbs……..stirring from the depths of a restless rest…………awakening to the jangling of a bread earner’s faith…… The shower relents……..probably giving in to all the Monday morning groans and grumbles emanating from a city forced back into consciousness….. Finally, all that remains is the moisture on the flower vendor’s tarpaulin and the shadow of the boatman’s song on the rippled river…….

Machinist, Tool Thyself (for Joe)
Out on the marsh on a lonely night The wind soughs through his rags, The hat that’s pinned to his painted face, Flutters and soars, then sags, His eyes are wide and his mouth is grim As an owl is put to flight, And nothing but shadows will venture there For the Scarecrow rules the night. And back in the manse in a window seat The Parson’s daughter sits, She stares at the fluttering coat-tails, but In truth, is scared to bits, She watches the sails of the windmill turn And creak and groan in the gloom, As clouds come stuttering over the marsh In the rays of a Harvest Moon. The father is out in the donkey cart To tend to his aging flock, He’s left Elizabeth waiting there By the tick of the hallway clock, But out on the moors and beyond the marsh There rides one Highway Jack, A frock coat topped with a bunch of lace And a gold trimmed tricorne hat. He’s whipped the horse to a lather In a retreat from a new affray, For the magistrates have gathered Vowing to ride him down that day, The redcoats wait in the village Inn For the sound that they know too well, When the curate sees the approaching horse He’s to toll the old church bell. But the curate lies in a drunken fit On the floor of the old church nave, And soon, by matins his soul will flit From life to an early grave, Elizabeth sits in the window seat And thinks of the coin and plate, As the highwayman dismounts, and ties His horse to the manse’s gate. He beats on the door, ‘Please let me in, I’m weary and faint, that’s all. I wouldn’t abuse your person, but I fear my back’s to the wall.’ She leaves the seat and she slides the bar For bracing the oaken door, ‘I dare not, sir, I fear for my life, You’re safer out on the moor!’ Their voices echo across the marsh Like fear, distilled in the night, And something shudders out in the gloom And lurches to left and right, It seems forever, but now a sound Tolls out, like a final knell, For something, out in the church tonight, Is tolling the steeple bell. He barely makes it back to his horse When the redcoats stand in line, Their muskets fire a volley of shot And his coat turns red, like wine. It's in the morning, at the rise of the sun, when memories float back to you and the remnants of your smile from last night reappears in the soreness of your cheeks and the tightening of your jaw where beauty manifests itself throughout nature. From the distant tolling of church bells, tolling away in their perfect habitual melody, to the sounds of lovers silently waking one another and relishing at the sounds of their respected voices. Its in this moment that the dream and reality mesh with one another. Never truly revealing which is which leaving you in a blissful ignorance peppered with false hopes and beautiful truths. Its through the fog of your alcohol addled mind that a light appears and guides you to wonders untold, leading to a discovery of discoveries revealing a magic long lost to this universe. Down the neck of a dark blue bottle lined with platinum flows my intuition and aspiration. Its now that i drink and discover a new reality. Namaste.
