Her titillating tattoo tantalizes me deeply, to the tenth degree. I see it as I slip her silk dress slowly down her left shoulder. A lizard lying on a boulder, contrasting with her silky smooth soft snowy skin. I kiss her shoulder, and she shudders and sighs a deep sigh. Goosebumps rise up her body as a sturdy gust seizes the moment. The forest we make love in quakes and shakes as she shivers and quivers under the touch of my hands. My left hand holds her upper arm, while my right grips her hips. She closes her eyes, smiling, giggling in amusement. I spin her slowly ‘round, and look into her hazel eyes, her soft ******* and thighs against mine for warmth and gentle touch. I kiss her lips. Strawberry. And we slide down to the ground. The scariness we have found slips away in our grace. We sinners share our shame, our lust, and come to a conclusion, and bust each others doors down, sweet ****** on this cold ground.

(Her titillating tattoo...)
It's elementary, my dear This bittersweet affection that I feel From one boy to the next I grew Ladder rungs of broken hearts First grade Blonde hair and disarming smile Recess games and hallway passes A note in a diary and minutes spent giggling Never talking, always watching Fourth grade Glasses frame of brown hair and thin shoulders Curious enigma to come and go A bit more literate diary entrees One year of crossed legs and shy smiles Fifth grade A growing tree of lean muscle and blue eyes Short brown hair and a charming grin Side by side on a rubber track Gray skies and sweet goodbyes A bright dance floor and a shattered heart Miserable nights and heartbreak songs Seventh grade Long dark hair and chocolate eyes This spring has brought a strange surprise Wiry muscle and soft cheeks Once admired, then adored An ongoing thrum of sweet affection Sidelong glances and gym class stares New discoveries and quiet realization Girl can love girl Tenth grade A firecracker packed with mysterious boys And an enigmatic girl A bomb in the summer sky Spelling new names, new faces, new hearts A whisper of 'I love you' at long last returned Names carved on my ribs and pulling my lips A tightened chest never felt so good

Doll’s boy ’s asleep under a stile he sees eight and twenty ladies in a line the first lady says to nine ladies his lips drink water but his heart drinks wine the tenth lady says to nine ladies they must chain his foot for his wrist ’s too fine the nineteenth says to nine ladies you take his mouth for his eyes are mine. Hymn to Aphrodite by Sappho loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch Immortal Aphrodite, throned in splendor! Wile-weaving daughter of Zeus, enchantress, and beguiler! I implore you, dread mistress, discipline me no longer with love's anguish! But come to me once again in kindness, heeding my prayers as you have done before; O, come Divine One, descend once again from heaven's golden dominions! Your chariot yoked to love's consecrated doves, their multitudinous pinions aflutter, you once came gliding from the utmost heights, to the dark-bosomed earth. Swiftly they came and vanished, leaving you, O my Goddess, smiling, your face eternally beautiful, asking me what unfathomable longing compelled me to cry out. Asking me what I sought in my hopeless, bewildered desire. Asking, "Who has harmed you, why are you so alarmed, my poor Sappho? Whom should Persuasion summon here?" "Though today she flees love, soon she will pursue you; spurning love's gifts, soon she shall return them; tomorrow she will woo you, however unwillingly!" Come to me now, most Holy Aphrodite! Release me from my heavy heartache and anguish; grant me all I request, be once again my ally and protector! "Hymn to Aphrodite" is the only poem by Sappho of ****** to survive in its entirety. The poem survived intact because it was quoted in full by Dionysus, a Roman orator, in his "On Literary Composition," published around 30 B.C. A number of Sappho's poems mention or are addressed to Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. It is believed that Sappho may have belonged to a cult that worshiped Aphrodite with songs and poetry. If so, "Hymn to Aphrodite" may have been composed for performance within the cult. We do know that Sappho was held in very high regard. For instance, when Sappho visited Syracuse the residents were so honored they erected a statue to commemorate the occasion! During Sappho's lifetime, coins of ****** were minted with her image. Furthermore, Sappho was called "the Tenth Muse" and the other nine were goddesses. I have been in the moon In search of love all noon Searched through deserts Even through garden of Eden. I have Searched beneath the sea Travelled wide even to overseas Still could not find love. I went to Vatican Even to Mecca Driven through the romantic sites of Paris Bath in the Brazilian beaches Flown across the Atlantic Pitched my tenth for few days on the Antarctic Spend some more on the arctic Still I saw no love. All I saw was lust Angels with broken hearts, Rotten roses, Withered lilies, Death faiths and monsters on beautiful faces. I saw bullets in church offering boxes Just wedded on number plates of ambulances. I saw wars in diversity Pain and mourning crowding all cities The devil celebrating the dead of peace. I saw three wise men Where went love, I asked them They said love has been nailed on the cross Buried with trust They are heading to Galilee To await his return. I followed with dreams I met many returning with smiles of frustration From where I was going with pregnancy of expectations. We arrived to the scene Like a nightmare, I witnessed higher sins I saw men taking pleasures with men Some with animals, some women with women. Gun everybody walking sticks People feeding on people flesh With human blood the thirsting ones quench their thirst. Is this where love is expected to return? The wise men retorted, Yes, the saints have been raptured And his seven years  reign has just began. Then in a flash, I remembered that I have been taught Taught about this dreadful end I had also taught kids Under trees at nights Just to threaten them to live right. What I thought was a mare threat or a fallacy Has been awaken against my fate in reality. Oh! We are among the leftovers Left to reprove ourselves or be doomed forever.

The Story by Kamal Nasser translation by Michael R. Burch I will tell you a story ... a story that lived in the dreams of my people, a story that comes from the world of tents. It is a story inspired by hunger and embellished by dark nights of terror. It is the story of my country, a handful of refugees. Every twenty of them have a pound of flour between them and a few promises of relief ... gifts and parcels. It is the story of the suffering ones who stood waiting in line ten years, in hunger, in tears and agony, in hardship and yearning. It is a story of a people who were misled, who were thrown into the mazes of the years. And yet they stood defiant, disrobed yet united as they trudged from the light to their tents: the revolution of return into the world of darkness. Kamal Nasser was a much-admired Palestinian poet and Palestinian Christian, who due to his renowned integrity was known as "The Conscience." He was a member of Jordan's parliament in 1956. He was murdered in 1973 by an Israeli death squad whose most notorious member was future Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Barak (born Ehud Brog) later ruled as Israel’s tenth Prime Minister from 1999 to 2001. His adopted Hebrew name Barak means "lightning." As a younger man, Brog/Barak was a member of a secret assassination unit that liquidated Palestinians in Lebanon and the occupied territories. In the 1973 covert mission Operation Spring of Youth in Beirut, which was part of the larger Operation Wrath of God, he disguised himself as a woman in order to assassinate Palestinians. The raid resulted in the deaths of two women, one of them an elderly Italian. Two Lebanese policemen were also killed, along with the poet Kamal Nasser. Nasser was the PLO's most prominent Christian and he enjoyed "great appeal" in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq "both as a distinguished poet and likeable personality." He was the “conscience of the Palestinian revolution,” according to Nazih Abul-Nidal, who worked with him on the magazine Filastin al-Thawra. Nasser “had the most democratic outlook of all Palestinian leaders at the time,” he recalls. He respected opposing views, admired the commitment of young people, and was a major recruitment asset for the Palestinian revolution. “That is why he was put high on the hit-list.” The previous year, the Israelis had murdered another renowned Palestinian writer and activist in Beirut, Ghassan Kanafani, by booby-trapping his car. Nasser’s successor, Majed Abu Sharar, was also assassinated by Israelis, in Rome in 1981 while attending a conference in solidarity with the Palestinian people. You were born on a cusp. friends on the other side couldn't decide, Scorpio or Libra. You yourself, as constant as the tides. A tenth sign ram was blessed to cross your lovely path and the ram learned: Short curly hair pinned back reveal asiatic eyes. As you pass by and by Time and time hearts race Chicken salad sandwich, its moist mayonnaise is never as delicious without a pickle. Grubhub. No, Scrubhub. Too content to leave the room. Yummy Rummy, food in our tummy. forever. Broth, cheese and wine. Mushrooms and time. If ever I tasted love, it was shared with me, in a recipe. Sound opinion in scores. Royal, like the Tenenbaums. Bill Murray fantastic. Pink Moon over and over and over. Divide that by nine. And now I know, almost as well as you, how good Goodfellas is, even after the tenth time. Early morning awakenings or snooze again and again and again. Paralyzed in a dream or awoken with a scream, we tried a routine: Once parts of a team, a memory faster than it seemed. Ran for miles. A boy and girl in the hall, amongst the boys and girls in the hall. Digital regulars in ecstasy. Wake next to you a daydreamer. So, when life gets hard, and you're feeling down, don't be so glum, ignore your doubts, don't feel left out, I'll be there for you, when you need me to.

Just ten minutes after I'd revved the engine I was only nine miles away from the love of my life Day dreaming of when we’d met just eight short months ago Soaring at seventy down that country road Only six more miles until she’d be in my arms again Five years ago thoughts of love would have seemed so far out of sight Yet four times I've already proposed, “too soon,” she’d always say Amazing how in three seconds your entire life can change With just two tires there’s little room for error When one blew out I hit the asphalt, hard In a wreck like that there’s zero chance I’d survive One hour later the ambulance arrived at last EMTs pressed two paddles against my chest Shocks were delivered three times At the hospital doctors performed four operations Five months I spent in a coma Followed by six months of physical therapy relearning to walk In time all seventeen broken bones had set and healed It cost me eight grand to buy a new bike Now nine years later I’m still riding, fearless, wife on the back The tenth time I asked, she finally said yes

We were in the fourth grade.      Richie Ackerman was having      a birthday party. There were the two twin sisters      so exceptionally cute      blonde hair in dresses. We played spin the bottle. First kiss was regular mail      kneeling or seated. Second kiss was air mail      standing in place. Third kiss was special delivery      in the hallway. In the circle of players Richie spun first --      his birthday after all. Must have been my tenth time around      before a regular mail kiss      with one of the twins. She smiled a welcome. I was shaking.      Right on the lips      very short      very soft      she smelled so good. The game proceeded      we experienced more kissing      yet that first kiss      lingers on.

Sappho of ****** "Hymn to Aphrodite" translation
Hymn to Aphrodite by Sappho (her only complete poem) loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Your chariot yoked to love's consecrated doves, their multitudinous pinions aflutter, you once came gliding from the utmost heights, to this dark earth. Whom should Persuasion summon here?" "Though today she flees love, soon she will pursue you; spurning love's gifts, she soon shall return them; tomorrow she will woo you, however unwillingly!" Come to me now, most Holy Aphrodite! Release me from my heavy heartache and anguish; grant me all I request, be once again my ally and protector! "Hymn to Aphrodite" is the only poem by Sappho of ****** to survive in its entirety. Across the ocean, you meant nothing to me. You were a destination, a photograph, a wish. You plagued my winter woes with your heatwaves, jumping into creeks in your underwear while I wrapped myself in another blanket, cold Canadian ice princess. You slept under stars in close contact with beautiful nature, beautiful life, beautiful people, while I stared at them, upside down, from my window. And then the big dipper dumped you into my lap, head on my chest so you could feel my heart beat and I could tangle my fingers in your hair. Photographs aren't supposed to come to life. Beautiful smiles and messy blonde hair are for fantasies and dreaming and rainy days, and not for my bed or my guitar or my lips But there you were. For two weeks I thought and rethought and plagued my heart with goodbye is coming. He will fly away from me. We are not birds meant to be caged We are wanderers, nomads, free-spirits who need no tying down or tying knots, And I want to tie myself to your bed post with barbed wire because it hurts that much to leave you anyway. But you leave me. And there you weren't. There you weren't as I made up my mind that it's okay to love a nomad, as long as you're one too. And it's okay to love a bird of flight, just build yourself some wings and follow But I was mistaken, I was wrong and I was three steps behind you. Because when you said "I'll see you later" you didn't mean later You meant get out. And I still don't know if you're scared or if you just don't want me, You don't ******* want me. High as the plane that brought you here to leave me, I stand lace clad, smoke screened and alone. High enough to feel my lungs contracting with each breath that made my tongue taste less and less like yours, High enough to feel my knees click where you held them once, One time, Because that was all it took. I couldn't get high enough to stop retracing the lines that your fingers made up and down my sides as you felt the curve of my body for the first time. My limbs were barren, cold, antarctic as you left them when you took your warm, summer hand away. So I turned the shower up all the way, until it burned enough to feel like I was boiling my skin, baptizing your sinful touch off of my innocent body. I burned my arms and legs until they cracked. They cracked from dryness, even after I wet them with my tears, And my first, fourth, tenth glass of wine. And I threw the bottle against my bedroom door. Watched it smash, Wished it was me. I'll clean it up later.

Give me your inspiration. Come on, you have enough already. This isn’t fair, I protest; how is it that you can create a dozen pretty iced-cupcake poems a day and I can’t? Honestly – sharing is caring. I don’t want it all, just a little bit. A tenth will suffice. It won’t take much from you, I swear! you’ll still be writing ten-point-eight cupcakes a day. Now would that be so bad? No? Well, then. Be like that. It’s not like I need inspiration …

This morning we jogged early I was back in my flat by six-thirty From my tenth floor view of the Charles River basin, The morning was incandescently flushed by the peach-colored sun. The transparent clouds seemed stylistically stained, artfully workshopped, which offered a softened, Tiffany glass effect wholly worthy of worship. I can’t stop to admire it. I’m jamming things into suitcases. Cramming things into boxes, giving things away. I had a second interview Monday afternoon, for Johns Hopkins med school. They put the question to me: “The semester starts in 18 days - can you do that?” “Yes,” I replied, and just like that, I'm a Blue Jay. Of course, I had to withdraw from the masters program but Harvard gave me a full (95K) refund - I think they’re more excited about my med school admission than I am. I’m not afraid of discordant notes. They change the landscape. Take us to new emotional places. Any major work is going to have them. . . A song for this: Hang on Little Tomato by Pink Martini It's Amazing by Jem

Feathers strapped on the outs of seem, of pink and purple, of color yet. Seen around this violent weather, drinks that hurdle, are hard to get. Together when soaked with prime no better, stoked to find and kiss the daughter. In law, out law, outlaws fed her, he rather play a love bird tune. Out the noise, when in the slaughter, eyes of boys are caught in June. Tenth in line to raise the baby; dropped the world and dropped the toys.
