"sumthin" poems
By: Cedric McClester
Snitches get stitches
So nobody drops a dime
Meanwhile we're the biggest victims
Of inner city crime
It's happenin' everyday
Without reason or rhyme
Don't cha think it's high time
We change that paradigm
Snitches get stitches
That's the code of the street
But you'll be given up
Once the cops apply the heat
That Mafia example
In real life ain't complete
Cos they're the biggest snitches
That you'll ever meet
Snitches get stitches
And they probably should
If both of ‘em were down
Then it's understood
But if you see sumthin'
Happenin' in the hood
Then you need to say sumthin
Cos I know I would
Snitches get stitches
That's the code of the street
But you'll be given up
Once the cops apply the heat
That Mafia example
In real life ain't complete
Cos they're the biggest snitches
That you'll ever meet
Our mutual destruction
Is clearly assured
If the challenges we're facing
Continually get ignored
Our future salvation
Demands we're of one accord
So let's pray for the strength
As we look towards the Lord
Snitches get stitches
But ya wanna know the truth
It's high time the rest of us
Better stop being aloof
We're dying every day
The statistics are the proof
So let's raise the white flag
And declare a truce
Snitches get stitches
That's the code of the street
But you'll be given up
Once the cops apply the heat
That Mafia example
In real life ain't complete
Cos they're the biggest snitches
That you'll ever meet

And prolly shoulda
But I wouldn’ta
‘Cause I gotta

Be a wannabe.

But a gunna go to guy.
Still I liketa never
Gotta break yet.
But I’m tryna.
Winecha common?
Wotsa prollem?
Youc’n do it, cancha?
Tryna kid me?
Tryna trick me.

Eye aindat kyna guy.
Eye ainno fool, er you?
So, omina skip it

Give me your tired
Your hungry your poor
But now-a-days
That don’t apply anymore
When it comes to
Illegal immigrants
Cos some contend
They’re here at our expense
Are they guest workers
Or just neo-slaves
Underpaid
So big business saves
And if you think
They’re gonna reinvest
Then I suggest
You take another guess
Is it reform
Or really amnesty
It’s a question
That hasn’t been answered (ya see)
And it’s hard to say
If it will ever be
Given its nature
And its history
Are they guest workers
Or just neo-slaves
Underpaid
So big business saves
And if you think
They’re gonna reinvest
Then I suggest
You take another guess
Now the debate
Is heating up
The law demands
We give ‘em up
But who’s gonna turn in
Their own family
I know I wouldn’t
But that’s just me
Are they guest workers
Or just neo-slaves
Underpaid
So big business saves
And if you think
They’re gonna reinvest
Then I suggest
You take another guess
I really don’t think
We have sumthin to fear
There’s already millions
Of immigrants here
Doin the jobs
No one else wants to do
They’re being exploited
And we are too
Now the debate
Is heating up
The law demands
We give ‘em up
But who’s gonna turn in
Their own family
I know I wouldn’t
But that’s just me
Are they guest workers
Or just neo-slaves
Underpaid
So big business saves
And if you think
They’re gonna reinvest
Then I suggest
You take another guess

We go to school every day till eitghteen
Jess lock dey did win dey was a kid.
Ever now and then, you can get ahold
Of sum buddy whose totally iggnent.
They stick there noses up in thuh air.
They think there better, sumthin differnt.
But really, it’s just a mute point, I mean
Irregardless of whut they bin sayin’
They jess turn stuff round 360 degrees.
It’s jess a nother word game there playin’.
Thuh important thang is to be understood
Not that thuh people say everthang rite.
The important stuff to tok about is
To know whut is wrong and whut is rite.

"Don't take your love away"
Cuz "I wanna be close"
So if we "separated"
"My first love"
Will rot
A----
"Charlene"!
"Since I seent you"
You've been my "diamond in the rough"
So my boys know
That I'll be a "broken man"
If "her heart"
"Float" away from me
"The point of it all"
Is "im a mess"
So "please stay"
So I can see "better days"
Quit tampering
A------ H-------
"When a woman loves"
She's "happy people"
"When a woman's fed up"
"I wish" that I can make her happy
I'm sorry, it's just "if I could turn back the hands of time" I would
You say that you love me
But "it seems like you ready"
To "step in the name of love"
In another mans "chocolate factory"
Hope I'm not being petty
R. -----
"A house is not a home"
But "if this world were mine"
"If only for one night"
I'll give you "endless love"
"Here and now"
"Always and forever"
You'll be my "superstar (don't you remember)"
When I told you that It's "never too much" of your love that I can have?
Without you I'm lost
-----r V-------
Why are you "playing possum"?
Tell me a lil "sumthin' sumthin'"
Spread your "pretty wings"
And soar to "whenever wherever whatever" you want to go
My "bad habits"
Makes "this woman's work"
And when I see her cry
I can't help but to have a "fist full of tears"
In my "lifetime" I never been so
"Fortunate" until now
My "ascension" never been so high until now (don't ever wonder) us falling
Because it will "stop the world"
"Know these things: shouldn't you"
If so don't ever bail
--x----
It's not just your "chocolate legs"
That I crave
"I wanna be loved"
And "sometimes I cry" when I can't
"Spend my life with you"
Don't leave me for lonely "Harriett jones"
We have "real love"
Don't go stray
E--- --n--
"Me and those dreamin' eyes of mine" wishes that you were my "lady"
I wish that we were "cruising"
I Wish that I could take you "higher"
But since you're "untitled (how does it feel" to be my "brown sugar"?
Do you "feel like making love"? Huh?
Like Animals
-'A-----
"U got it bad"
"You make me wanna"
"Let it burn"
But I got a few "confessions" to make
When I "love you gently"
And go "nice and slow"
"You remind me" that I should toss them "papers" away
Tonight I want it "my way"
"Can you handle it"?
I love her and lust her
U----
"I'm tired of being alone"
But "how can you mend a broken heart"?
How can I reach "love and happiness"
And stay harmonious when we're tied by "unchained melodies"?
Can we ever just be "simply beautiful"?
Not just a cute couple?
Do you believe?
-- --een
Your art
Your mind
Your eyes
Your heart
Is described by our artist
Your art is painted in their lyrics
Sing songs as long as you belong
I long for your love
So my ears are plugged with earphones
As I sing along

Ya see the actual fact is
At times it’s not attractive
When we’re called to be proactive
Cos the atmosphere’s refractive
As if an insurmountable force
Things have suddenly changed course
And the protagonist has no remorse
Like the bullets a shooter packs
Or a freight train off the tracks
A reactionary reacts
Only to established facts
Don’t cha find it kinda strange
That we still argue climate change
After all those hurricanes
You’d think by now we’d use our brains
We’ve been shaken yet not stirred
Sumthin’ had to have occurred
Though silence is preferred
It should make us say my word
Like the bullets a shooter packs
Or a freight train off the tracks
A reactionary reacts
Only to established facts
And the argument’s been made
By the price already paid
For the groundwork to be laid
So our planet can be saved
And by now I think its clear
Just check out the atmosphere
Global warming would appear
To be already here
So it shouldn’t take much more
For the doubter to be sure
That the ozone layer’s core
Is sumthin we can’t ignore
Like the bullets a shooter packs
Or a freight train off the tracks
A reactionary reacts
Only to established facts
Ya see the actual fact is
At times it’s not attractive
When we’re called to be proactive
Cos the atmosphere’s refractive
As if an insurmountable force

I heard you whispering through the empty door-frame
Seeking sleep from your desired lover, unchanged and the same
the twilight years of life, are they anything like the twilight zone?
Perhaps the alzheimers leads to a quantum close
and
mirrors float like seperated identities, I let the spirit into me
Sentient flow comes with a pill of Gingko biloba
The oval Mandala SWEEPS me up!
Back in the circle of the SANSKIRT gumption
Carved like a pumpkin, that's sumthin if you're thumpin
Loud
Loud
Loud enough.

"Nothing ever ******* happens with you people.
You feign interest just to occupy yourself with mindless tasks
so that you can cop out of what it was that was discussed.
Just ******* say you don't want to do something
if you don't ******* want to do it,
don't make people sit and wait
for your sorry, hypocritical ***
for several hours
just to have you
******* ditch them
in a similar fashion.
It sorta makes me wonder
if anything only ever happens
so you "can't" do something else,
as if the lesser of two evils.

dreams with a 'z' and a bigger bite of the apple
achieves nuffin.. it's a sleepy clap-yer-hands at
the end of any benign midnight show time- -
dreamt I was a homosexual and the girl I'm with
wuz a cover for sumthin till I figured it out. told
her, and she was real hurt, nodded 'oh, alright'
and probably cried but I wuzn't sure cuz she waited
till I was gone.. felt terrible, woke up, vocalised the
dream and told her I was probably a ratio bi but there
wuz nuffin to worry about cuz I'm most definitely
emotionally straight (her cute, adorable mischief-smile
tilted with her head as she moved right to hold me)

Seventh Grade.
I wrote about a kid..
A troubled kid with memories, memories he did dread.. Of which he seen he grandmother in her deathbed.. He didn't kno he could write, but he did because it was his only Defense in the fight..
Eighth Grade.
My English teacher tried to
“Harness” my talent,
in the raw.. Said in me she seen no flaws..
Never forget that competition I lost to Chris, but this teacher Pushed me into competitions
Of which I had no interest...
Freshman Year..
I got accused of plagiarism. They Didn't believe these were my writings..
After all,
What could I possibly know
About the world's tragedies, poverty, or how the stars were symbolic to my thoughts and tears...
after jus a mere 14 years I've spent living here?
I was told to “stick to something
a 14-year-old could write" because a young man my age knows nothing about how world hunger just isn't right...
Sophomore Year
I wrote about the young girl that had my heart... That is, until she completely ripped it apart..
So I began to change it, grew cold, wrote bout "these hoes" because love was sumthin I just didn't want no mo!
Junior year
I began to mature, so I wrote about life, love things of that nature... Listened in class & found new ways to write, new things like using hyperboles, or changing it up & adding Analogies..
Senior year
I had no fear, at least that's wat they seen. I was focused and my eye was keen..started to learn I didn't have to cry, so I wrote about stages In my life, I learned to say goodbye, bye to the things tht made me cry, held my head high & looked to the skies.. I didn't have to run, I learned I could be Fighter.. I learned by looking bak at the Evolutions of a young writer...

Your soft kiss creates the spark that keeps me going
Pushing me forward, giving me strength
Your hug, dropping my heartbeat to a slow steady beat
Relaxing my muscles, giving me peace
Here we go again, the time is now
Is this a new start or just a continuation?
Take my hand, come with me darling
Together we move forward
Together we love

Your secret’s out
Now everybody knows
He gave you that rock
Like we first supposed
So model it
Come on and strike a pose
But maybe first
Straighten out your clothes
Let me pick a contentious bone
You can tell a diamond - from a ***** stone
And we’re not dumb enough to be deceived
So your account was never believed
I sympathize with you
I know that truth hurts
Now you’re about to get
Your just desserts
See that’s what sometimes happens
To you flirts
When showin’ off what’s underneath
Your skirts
Let me pick a contentious bone
You can tell a diamond - from a ***** stone
And we’re not dumb enough to be deceived
So your account was never believed
You went to the Hague
To testify but lied
The version that you told
By others was denied
And even those who wanna
Be on your side
Know the truth was sumthin
You never applied
Let me pick a contentious bone
You can tell a diamond - from a ***** stone
And we’re not dumb enough to be deceived
So your account was never believed
It’s too late for the truth
The damage has been done
To your tattered image
Now you don’t have one
But that’s what you deserve
If the truth be told
Cuz justice must be served
And it’s best served cold
You went to the Hague
To testify but lied
The version that you told
By others was denied
And even those who wanna
Be on your side
Know the truth was sumthin
You never applied
Let me pick a contentious bone
You can tell a diamond - from a ***** stone

It wasn’t fit for livin’ in
But 106 Rivington
Was where musicians got it in
And some of ‘em even began
Where drummers let loose on their drums
A rat tat tat ba-rum *** ***
From all over we would come
To play and hear 'em play their drums
106 Rivington
May not have been worth living in
But was ideal for playin when
We needed space to practice in
Like Birdland sadly it is gone
And sumthin’ ‘bout that feels so wrong
Though memories no doubt live on
And we’ll just have to move along
We can’t complain because it’s done
We all had one hell-of-a-run
Not to mention lots of fun
Here’s to the setting of the sun
Some will lament others will morn
A part of history now is gone
But there will be another dawn
And we will play another song
106 Rivington
May not have been worth living in
But was ideal for playin when
We needed space to practice in
Given the low rent we paid
It was like one big parade
At 106 friendships were made
From the foundations that we laid
But times moves on and so must we
What the future holds we’ll havta see
Guess we’ll just have to let it be
Cos I don’t know so don’t ask me
Some will lament others will morn
A part of history is now gone
But we will play another song
And there will be another dawn
106 Rivington

There will never be another you,
Thank God! Hallelujah, we are through;
you were a bombshell from the start,
too bad for you, you broke my heart.
Love is strange at certain times,
sometimes poetry don't rhyme;
but the message still gets across,
you thought today, you'd be the boss.
I wear the pants you see, my love,
be careful what you push or shove;
I don't want you to stay and "fight" it out,
until you know just what love's about.
You were a ballbreaker from day one,
guessed you were sumthin' under the sun;
tried to battle me and bring me down,
I am so glad, you're no more around.
You were unique, that much was true,
but you were a fad, that much I knew;
you tried to rule, and it was all in vain,
you were the one that finally went insane.

On the benches where grandpas watch strollers at
re-musement parks, where the oldays
come alive, conversations take on an old Wednesday
at the barber shop atmosphere,
circa Happy Days, right after ...
There could be sumthin' t'them stories,
the ones the good guys win,
some how
the
good guys win, not in the appliance business,
but
markets saturate, you know, need a gimmick,
need a hook,
eh, the c'mon, try-days, when umph was push,
come to shove and tear and take,
the puppy dog close...
what should only be given, fool.
is nothing sacred? Sweet persuasion
**** From a fifties Tom Hanks recollection of commonalities,
awe, look, Ken Burn's still of all
I think I saw now
that
I remember, I was near there, maybe a hundred miles away.

Do with ya.
Make ya breakfast on time. Duh…
I see somethin diff about cha.
some don't know what to do with ya.
But you can see sumthin different when ya with me.
preparing ya lunch.. What you like I got a hunch..
every day when ya f'in with me.. be somethin diff.
Dinners going to be somethin to stick to ya bone.
Ya won't get the same thing er’day.
the young chicks don't know what ta do with ya..
with ya yeah yeah.
I'm like seasoning simmering and classic dinning.
but home grown fixing..ol schoolin know what I mean..
I'm jus saying I'ma eye pleasing cuddly smiling thang.
Dedicated behavior..
dressing thangs up and smoothing things round..
so cool so cool....
Bring yah specialty behavior...
So I can bring tha flavor...
tasty gravy.. committed chemistry, sweet rarity.
I could be best fa yah...
cuz some wouldn't know what ta do wit cha..

You know how it is
Out on the block
Sumthin’ goes down
Nobody wants to talk
So we long-step
Right over the chalk
That marks the spot
Where somebody got dropped
We have mothers, fathers
Children and wives
But we’re not gonna talk
To save our lives
It’s a jungle out there
Where no one survives
Or the few that do
Learn to connive
It’s us that’s dying
Everyday
Heart conditions (diabetes)
Get in our way
We use emergency rooms
To make us okay
But we won’t visit doctors
No matter what I say
We have mothers, fathers
Children and wives
But we won't go to doctors
To save our lives
It’s a jungle out there
Where no one survives
Or the few that do
Learn to connive
It’s planned obsolescence
And we cooperate
Because we’re the very ones
To whom we show our hate
And while I’m at it
Let me also state
That this topic isn’t
Open to debate
We have mothers, fathers
Children and wives
But we’re not gonna talk
To save our lives
It’s a jungle out there
Where no one survives
Or the few that do
Learn to connive
Garbage in
And garbage out
We’re killing ourselves
And there’s no doubt
About our ignorance
Or the things we sprout
Conspicuous consumption
Are the things we tout
We have mothers, fathers
Children and wives
But we’re not gonna talk
To save our lives
It’s a jungle out there
Where no one survives
Or the few that do
Learn to connive
You know how it is
Out on the block
Sumthin’ goes down

*this is what a kalimotxo afternoon looks like; + the giggles surround the citation orientating itself around in vino veritas, esp. home-made.*
within the concept counter to the cartesian
model of res cogitans,
i.e. res vanus -
for some reasons stranger than otherwise
i am always fed,
i am fed one thought after another...
i can't think of god as a person,
a being of some obscure sense
of a wishy-washy wishing carol of complaints
regarding my argument worthwhile
while itemising parasites...
i just bypass the whole atheistic endeavour
and treat the **** "thing" as
an object... obviously i am objectional to it
within the atheistic solidarity,
but i am still subjected to it,
whether arguing for it's existence,
or for it's non-existence...
so much arises from not thinking,
the reflexive sense of thinking,
never wasted upon the reflective (frictive)
sense of "thinking", by that i mean:
you writing a book or sumthin'?
the moment i stop "thinking" i.e. narrating
is the moment i am fed a thought
of spontaneous premature ***********
of this sort...
all it takes is a bit of
restraint... **** me and all this "hot" topic
of restraining genitalia...
i swear to god: you sure you haven't
shoved your head up your **** far enough
to imitate the ostrich looking for china?

Let me pull your coat to sumthin’
You probably never knew
When I say black lives matter
White lives matter too
As well as law enforcers
Who happen to wear blue
We say black lives matter
Because they rarely do
Black lives matter
Needs to be expressed
Despite the things I’ve said
Because nevertheless
We have been dehumanized
And disrespected, at best
Shot down with impunity
In ways you’d never guess
Black lives matter
Has been our battle cry
And after all I’ve told you
There's no need to ask me why
Walk a mile in my shoes
Just give it a try
And then you'll understand
I tell you no lie
Black lives matter
Because we’re human too
But you’d never know it
Based on what we’ve been through
Brutalized and oppressed
By the people who
Are sworn to serve and to protect
But that’s not what they do
