"squinch" poems
Fluorescent
drib drab
cut out flip
flop flip flop
Think 'til ya can't stop but
it's just too bright in here
It's just look around look around
from inside those tinted windows
Those glasses framed
with and without conformity
Because who needs the every day cut and dry fantasy of the just gotta get by to get by
Get high and stay low
fly south to stay warm
spinning wheels squeek and
pinch squinch ear drum skins like a
fire that's too hot for
the hide and
snap!
Take it back to your earliest childhood memory and smell the flowers in the backyard.
It sounds a little like drizzle drizzle water from the fluffy fluffy clouds but -
Don't you ignore me, you little punk!
Move along, move along, get in the car
And drive -
We're gone and never coming back
Step forward step forward n' step back -
Look around, listen...
See if you can hear the trees glisten
Listen for the motion of the ocean and
You've been here before
but it's much different
because you've stepped forward
and stepped forward before so be forward
Be a becoming
Become and
come back to Me
come back to where it all starts
More words or less words
Either forward or just lack the words
Even with none, the essence is in your eyes
It's in the tingling
of the muscles in your smile
as you speak and as you don't
It's in the electric branches that crackle up through the soles of your feet when you stand still in happy soil
happy soil

*Snow presses with a sorrowful squinch,
And white falls as the sudden snow falls,
We make our rounds in the growing dark,
Walking long the frosty eves with my love.*

Baby you don’t have to cook or clean
just sing for me
and I will love you

I squinch my nose up as the smell of **** plumes out of the truck my cousin hopped out of
Sitting in the back of her car, nauseous because of the smell and half car sick
We sit at a table half eating lunch, half staring at the walls, only small talk
Once best friends able to spend weeks on end together, we've grown apart
Her interests in drugs and boys and things that trigger these rain clouds of thought push me away
I speed to Nana's, desperate for the familiar ***** warm feeling
My grown cousins greet me with empty hugs and greetings and the gap gets wider
I watch as their children run and scream and play and I am swept back to my own childhood
The old joy filled bike races and ***** games of hide and seek ripple faintly
I realize that I'm all grown up, that nothing I can do will transform me into the toddlers I watch playing in the yard
The feeling leaves me hollow inside, devoid of the wonder of childhood and struggling to fill the peculiarly shaped hole growing up has gouged into me
The further I go the wiser I get, and the more unhappy I become
I'm left confused as to how magical this place, these people were when I was so young
And how dull, and futile it's all now become with age.

I squinch my eyes
up toward the sky
and fill my lungs,
let go a sigh
and as I rejoice
in sun and sea
and sparkling stars
and you and me
my heart grows so big
it floats out of my chest
above the trees
and the birds in their nests
up it floats, higher and higher
above chimneys and smokestacks and cathedral spires
it grows like the dickens
and tickles frisky kittens
and makes salmon shimmer
and candlelight glimmer
as it reaches back to earth
with a great big hug
for every creature, plant and bug
uniting all in love’s pull snug.
