"shortcut" poems
Once you participate in a race, if not anything else, you know one thing for sure.
Your own calibre.
It's then you realize and understand you need to make an active participation in every race from here onwards.
Your first experience teaches you a lot, since what follows later is an active participation from your side.
Over a period of time everything of which you are part starts changing
Now it's time to look for a better future
Always keep in mind that a secured future cannot be achieved if efforts are not been made
An uncertain future not only remains uncertain, but also keeps the present on hold.
What is thought upon is not the aim, but also the efforts that need to be made.
Always keep in mind take one step at a time while climbing the ladder, then it does not matter how long the ladder is.
The only thing that matters and also will make a difference is when you fall off the ladder.
At that point in time you will have to decide for yourself whether you want to climb again.
It’s not a mistake or an error, something which is done intentionally when you fall off the ladder, since mistakes happen.
Better learn from those mistakes and keep going
A moment in time will come when you will realize and understand how everything started
That will be the great moment in time, since that moment will be important
Till then keep going.
It’s success that everyone wants, but there is a price for everything, which you pay, including the success that you want.
Success comes at a price.
Better understand the outside world carefully and then act according to your own experience.
Once a step it taken, there is no point in looking back
Agreed it’s now or never, but only for those who know what they have been through in the past.
Once decided upon something, stick to the same
Understand and realize one thing for sure, time and tide waits for no one
Always be truthful and honest to yourself, even when you are making all the efforts.
Efforts never go wasted when the right direction is sought.
Compromise and negotiation is part of the game
What’s important to remember is mending your ways for short terms gains, something which remains unacceptable.
Act wisely, but be sure that there is no shortcut to success.
So it’s the passion and desire in you, inside you
The willingness to take the risk and go out for something of which you are absolutely sure.
The never give up attitude in life will make everything clear in mind
Once decided and everything is set and settled in mind, then from that point onwards proceed towards your aim.
Finally all that matters is success.
So don’t waste a single moment in time of your life and act according to what you have planned.
Definitely a moment in time will come when you will gain success and then the world will be at your feet.
Till that point in time comes keep going.

Love
Is not an equation.
There is no
x, y, or z
No variable
No shortcut to find a companion
If there was,
Well,
It wouldn't be love
But a cheap imitation,
The store brand of human emotion.
And yet
I still yearn to be a
Derivative
So that I might lie tangent to your curves.

Euphoria oh how i love thee, as i take a grasp of you, I know I roll the dice, but when I deny your pleasure, I become a different man
Be it the long road or the shortcut, you're what I'm aiming at, oh euphoria wont you be mine?
Will you be in the harvest, or in grasp of the devil's hand?
How long can I go hold off my pain before it takes my life?
Oh euphoria, you come at such cost, but perhaps in death you'll be forever mine

My words have just been ramblin',
I left the rhyming state of mind.
The ace of spades is gamblin',
but the rabbit's now on time.
Elevator going down,
catching buses to the sound.
How do I know that I am late?
Time exists in spite of fate.
We're racing, now, against the clock
in circles, 'round the spokes.
I've forgotten how the ticking tocks,
for the gears have been long broke.
Darlin', won't you take my hand?
They're try'na pull you under and
together we can leave this land,
but you must know just where you stand.
-
This shortcut leads to trouble,
but you'll get there on the double.
Bad ideas, I've had a couple;
my shattered thoughts within the rubble.
Broken fragments of my mind,
my fate's aligning just in time.
To the past, I'm disinclined;
looking down an uphill climb.
-
You're sending me a message
about the faithfulness of love;
the white rabbit left me breathless,
I still don't know what you speak of.
"I chose you, please choose me, too?"
I'm running, but I don't know what to.
I've fallen down the rabbit's hole,
into a world without console.

Boredom #2
I’ve never seen so many synonyms for one small noun,
Blocking maturation and enjoy-dom:
Boredom.
“Weariness, ennui: frustration;
Restlessness, dissatisfaction, unconcern: frustration;
Lethargy, lassitude, flatness and frustration;
Dreariness, repetitiveness, apathy: frustration;
Tedium, monotony, dullness. yes, frustration.”
Can it be overcome, this boredom?
No more war - the boredom won,
Exchanged for something more like fun?
It can.
A friend who, when we speak, says,
“It’s a part of nature…has no answer...”
Reasoning fallacious,
She is wrong as wrong can be
And her reasoning a fallacy.
Awake at night: hormones, full moons;
The glut of light: electric gadgets and devices,
Radios that play a song too strong, too long..
A trick I’ve learned that’s brought results;
A knack, a shortcut worth consulting
Is to train the brain to focus on/in/with the brain;
Travel round in, sense and feel…
Make it real – as if you really feel
The part you aim at, frame then tame.
In seconds you’ve an object that’s becomes a subject.
Boredom fled, you freed,
You and your mood well pleased, released
And taken places least expected,
Un-objected to by you,
The burden boredom’s through.
And doomed!

That's a shortcut to my poemhunter poems.
The search my poems option helps ME find my poems.
Visit the standard webpage or the print-friendly text version.
The end of October 2013 has meant quite a few poems were added.
Some were about the Stephen Gayford wildlife prints.
They are being sold on UK TV's Shopping channels.
I visit their websites and view the images and watch the TV demos.
Since joining hellopoetry, I visited several members' blogs and websites.
I've also visited the youtube-dot-com website to see members' videos.
My Stephen Gayford blog is here: denis-martindale-dot-blogspot-dot-com
I've checked Google for any websites that have used my poetry.
The images search also found lots of fantastic websites, too.
The deviantart-dot-com website features lots of fantasy art images.
They can lead poets to brand new poetry description ideas.
Just use the search site option for a desired poetry topic.
My Fantasy Art click-a-pic slideshow has some Superhero artwork,
view the wonderful galleries here: jennifersjpgs-dot-shows-dot-it
and some of my Superhero poems have been published based on these.
The Google image 'my name' search found lots of images like never before.
Regards, Denis Martindale.

*The eyes
are the windows
of the heart,
and the soul,
through them
we see who people
really and truly are.
A shortcut,
and a gateway,
to the garden
in which we dwell -
otherwise
near impossible to reach;
for the distance
is a lifelong journey
to a destination extremely far.

This is an example of a webpage shortcut I created recently thanks to tinyurl-dot-com: tinyurl-dot-com/what-could-be-greater and leads to a text-only display which web browsers help us zoom in on. Extra poemhunter-dot-com website info: The Denis Martindale poet search helps find poemhunter-dot-com/denis-martindale/poems/ and so does the exact title search help if searching for What Could Be Greater? The results page has this exact title search option. Edit the URL poemhunter-dot-com/poem/what-could-be-greater/ and visit a larger text font display that also featuring adverts. Select the print-friendly version there just to read the text version and a few extra links.

Open eyes can see as it all floats far away
Though denial runs deep even in the face of self-realization
Standing still in hopes that a small part will linger
Visions of yesterday's happiness shade today's shame
Different hues can tighten the squeeze
Small bits of who you thought you were run out
Lost in the vast nothingness that has taken hold
Twisted views of reality skew the mind against you
In a good moment there is peace
Too quickly forgotten, too quickly lost
Searching to find a shortcut back to who you want to be
Realizing in darkness that maybe, that never existed
Wondering if in this so-called truth lies the reality of others
Is this who you are?
Is this who they see?
You can choose to live in the worst thoughts of you,
Or believe in the best version of yourself

Friendly Joe Rabbit
Was not in the habit
Of running the race
To the end
He took every shortcut
Beware of the wrong-cut
And found every turn
Every bend
He said to Tom Turtle
I’ve hopped every hurdle
The race I will clearly contend
And though you are slow
Hither you go
You’re steadfast
A trusty old friend
She said to Tom Turtle
I’m taking it slow
And so he will know
This isn’t a show
He trusted Joe Rabbit
To follow him through
He said it was true
Before she even know
Tom Turtle she said
I’ll trust you instead
And cautiously I’ll go
My way
Joe Rabbit pursued
Like courtship he’d woo
The race to the finish line drew
The staggering pace
That had to erase
Before he was finished she knew
Tom Turtle her friend
Had lost in the end
And happily she acquiesced
Joe Rabbit my dear
The answer is clear
I’ll switch sides
I’ll now go with you
I’ve fallen in love
From heaven above
Joe Rabbit you’ve now
Won my heart
But right from the start
Joe knew he was smart
He knew how the story
Would end
They now share one heart
And never will part
As lovers their story
Goes on
Their friendship so dear
No reason to fear
Their future is now
Very clear
Two lovers apart
Who followed their heart
To live without worries of woes
And right to the end
They’ll always befriend
Their journey was now to begin
From living apart
A home they will start
And happily they’ll live
Through their days
Joe Rabbit, his speed
Was all they did need
Their love now is fully ablaze
Forever is clear
Their future so dear
Happily ever after
The song of the day
True love finds a way
A bridal bouquet
To carry away
A bride always be
Thanks to Joe Rabbit and me
So here’s to the day
Joe Rabbit did say
Live your life
As husband and wife
Live happily ever after
I won the race
No more a disgrace
Tom Turtle has nothing
To say
Thanks to you all
Time to clear the hall
And everyone
Have a good day

We take a shortcut
through the narrow walkways
of the old village
across the cobblestones
and by the white-washed tabby wall
to the waterside where slave ships
once plied their trade
My dog lingers nose down
as if each stone has a story to tell
and ***** an ear to the wall
where the auctions were held
She looks at people differently now.

Poetry.
One simple word,
Yet it could change your life.
That poem that hits you,
Right when you felt you couldn't be any more
Numb.
The one that shocks you back to
Life.
Maybe the sensitive side comes out.
Maybe you found a poem that
Shows a soul in distress.
Maybe you wrote that poem.
Someone else found it.
Saved you.
Who knows?
Did you ever wonder
Who it was that saved you?
Did you forget that it wasn't just you
That changed your soul?
Usernames hide identities,
So who could ever know
The real name of the soul that saved them.
I know it's happened for me.
People I can't thank enough.
For pulling me out of a blackhole,
A.K.A. Life as w know it.
"We" being those who cut.
"We" being those who smoke.
"We" being those who drink.
"we" being those lost in an
Endless. Downward. Spiral.
Because "we" see the world as it is.
A pit of problems with no bridge across.
The only bridge for the aforementioned "we" is poetry.
Writing poems in hope that someone will read it and save us.
Wondering all the while if anyone even cares.
Does the world care
Whether planned or not.
Have my words,
unspoken, but rather written,
ever saved some
Helpless soul
Wandering without a path?
Life is an endless journey,
Poetry is a shortcut,
Towards happiness galore.
Life is full of thorns.
Poetry is a beautiful field,
Full of flowers, but few thorns.
I can't say there won't be thorns,
Life has to have it's way sometimes.
But I can say I will be there for you,
Likewise with poetry.
If life gets too hard,
turn away from
The blade,
The pipe,
The bottle or can,
Take my hand,
We will make it together.
I may not be too good at voicing my thoughts,
But I mean well.
Some things cannot be said,
Even if they ought to be.
When your vase full of life flowers is drooping and wilted,
Come with me,
Find a new one.
In the end all that matters is how you spent
Hours upon hours.
Suffer,
Survive,
Thrive?
Poetry will make you bloom,
Then you can take that power and lead others.
Just never forget how you got to that place.
And never forget me and
How I taught you to listen to the words of
Souls that are never uttered.
Never forget the old you,
But don't stay that same person.
The past is the past, find your future.
Follow me.
Find poetry.
Change your mind.
Change your outlook.
Become a new, better, you.

You might be **** even kind...
But I care not for your ego.
I might as well be blind.
You might be interested in many things.
None of which light my fire.
A hollow heart filled with empty blings.
I live to build and design.
Practicality is so hard to find.
I want to understand the world.
Very few share my mind.
I'm simply complicated.
And there is no shortcut to my desire.
I'm after the impossible.
But that is all I require.

it was in glasbury-on-wye (wales),
school trip,
two teams, driven out of the
house we were staying,
i was in team no. 2,
we were given the assignment
to read maps...
team no. 1 got dropped off
at a shorter distance to the
house we accommodated...
my team was dropped further afield...
getting out of the mini-bus
i got the map... and just asked
'where are we, on the map?'
'here,' said the driver's index finger.
i figured out a shortcut,
via the fields, the forest, via cow grazing
patches...
we beat team no. 1...
but the moral of the story?
i still think you need to be greek,
i.e. you still have to "believe" the earth is flat...
a flat earth makes sense with directions
like east, west, south, north...
i cruised the team to an early victory
rotating the map in my hands...
i wasn't being ignorant...
i wasn't being competitive...
but to be honest i had one thing in mind...
copernican east? copernican west?
huh?!
how can you work that one out?
i know copernicus was right to stress
the earliest signs of an anti-heliocentric way of seeing,
but if there's no lucifer looking at a 2 dimensional
map of the earth... geocentric improvements
don't really help to just argue rather than get from
a. to b.; what good is geocentric copernican east
to my flat plateau need to co-ordinate a group
of people? heliocentric copernican east is
geocentric east, west, north south put together,
given the earth's orbit and the expanding universe...
geocentric my *** i had to turn into a inverse
heliocentricity... i had to navigate on a readable flat
plateau, moving the map one way up
one way the other... and we got there... beat
the other team... didn't push any cows onto the pasture...
so that's how lucifer read the map.

Success is sweet to taste, however consistent efforts need to be made
Efforts need to be made to make sure the sweetness of success remains in mind for over a long period of time, later on becoming part of the memory.
When efforts are made doubts are raised, since each and everyone has his own way of getting things done
Doubts result in question in order to find a better way with regards to what is going on in the mind at the present moment in time.
Definitely at one point in time it seemed that all efforts were made to gain success, but later on with time intentions change for the sake of short term gain.
Questions are asked in one or many different ways so as to clear the doubts that are raised
Questions need to be answered, since doubts need to be resolved.
In one way or other, it’s always better to walk in a straight line without depending on shortcut,
since when shortcuts are taken it might lead to a failure,
if not a complete diaster,
later on resulting into a blame game.
Definitely there is no shortcut to success.
Questions are asked when there is a doubt in the mind
Remarks are made when questions are not answered, the way in which they should have been answered in the first place.
Later on things change
As of now in the present,
arguments and counterarguments is part of the game
Conflicts and contradictions is also part of the game,
if not tradition with regards to the doubt that is raised and also with regards to the question that needs to be answered.
Business runs as usual,
since now it’s time to make a gain from the controversy that’s been made,
if not created,
which somewhere down the line was related to the question that was initially raised.
Now time will take it’s own course before everything finds it’s original place
However till then game of what if and what if not will gain a firm ground
It will be continued to be played between different groups having different players playing in their own way and for their ownsake.
The game continues.
Most of the the time when a controversy is created, efforts are always made to make sure nothing remains hidden,
however,
finally it’s truth that will bring an end to everything going on with regards to the doubt that was raised
Truth will reveal all the right and wrong with regards to everything that is going on in the mind and in this process it will settle down everything,
not only the controversy that was created,
but also the doubt that was raised.
Definitely truth is stranger than fiction, but also need of the hour since it will provide the answer to the question was raised with regards to the doubt going on in the mind.

It's so hard to tell
What I believe-
Because I'm smart, and educated, right?
And what I was just desperate to believe-
Because when you want a quick fix bad enough, isn't the shortcut subconscious?
How can you tell
What they believed-
Because they wore swastikas, and killed millions of innocents, you know?
And what they were just desperate to believe-
Because when you're ruled by destitution and terror, isn't the conformity subconscious?

The shortest distance
between pain and peace,
*[between what is
&
the fruitfulness of the morrow]*
is a rugged shortcut;
an unattractive narrow path
gated small,
signposted;
travail & obedience.
A steep elevation,
hewn of solid rock;
an ancient Roman road,
weathered,
yet
** traveled few.**
Pay mind to where you tread.
Be walked conditioned fit.
&
Foremost,
relinquish all your baggage.

do you remember how you felt
when you were a little kid
and you discovered a trick, a life shortcut
like closing your eyes when you prayed into the cup of your hands
and you weren’t sure if the adults knew it
but you decided to tell them anyway?
you felt brave and proud of yourself
for figuring it out
and very smart too-
but the adults already knew it
and you feel so hurt and stupid
and angry
and
i want to go back to the moment
just before i told the adults
and felt brave and proud of myself
for figuring it out
and very smart too-
and not knowing of the things to come.

She had seen him there
At the party
Dark eyes watching her
From the corner
As she danced
He had not been there
When she left
Dark skies blanketed her
And stars lit the way
As she began her walk home
She had not taken this path before
To get home
A glowing field allured her
With nearly fluorescent flowers
So she took this shortcut
He had seen her approaching
Full of new memories
Then stopping
Hesitating to make the decision
To go left through the field
She had soon felt him
Among the treacherous flowers
His dark presence in the wind
His words soon blended in
As he moved in closer
He had not lingered
To see her awaken
On the grass outside the field
Red mixed in yellow
**** seed dust

This diet of dirt erodes my teeth.
Perhaps I'm rotting for shock value
-- flashes of cameras --
a bloodborne shortcut to heaven.
I succumb to death a patriot:
red and white and asphyxia blue.
(We can't all drown like maidens.)
You smile and loosen your grip on my throat
to gnaw at and pick the flesh clean off my bones.

I’ve already graduated from high school,
But I’m still living in our house.
So I need to get used to commute
From East Fairview to UST.
It’s really different now,
Literally farther from usual.
It may be one ride away,
But with a longer travel time.
So, I have to leave earlier
Than the usual time back then.
If I don’t leave early,
I’ll get stuck at Espana for long.
FX or bus, you name it;
Whether partially or almost full.
Even if it’s very crowded,
I have no choice but to fit in.
So when I know I’ll be late,
I cross my fingers so hard,
Wishing that my ride
Will take an alternative route.
I just hate the fact
That when all else fails,
Even alternative routes
Are totally filled with cars.
In just a few months in college,
I already learned shortcuts to UST.
At least when I know I’m stuck,
I’ll find a way out of it.
In life, however,
There is no shortcut to happiness.
You still have to go a long way,
And withstand the challenges along it.
So we have a choice
And hard work is needed;
At least you know that
You’ve done it with effort.
Well, if a shortcut fails,
That means try another one.
But what can I say?
Manila is a busy road.
So I have to expect and endure
The heavy traffic flow at Espana,
As much as I can do it
In my own busy life.

Well I'm crashing, barely breathing
The feeling I've lost all control
On the driver's seat, but who's driving?
I'm sitting slowly losing my soul
You told me it would get better
Told me to give it some time.
Is it time enough now though,
Now that I'm bleeding out in rhyme
Flipping over and over again
While broken shards of memories lost
Burn through my bleeding brain.
Crashing and turning over again
While sounds of sirens drown me out
Driving me insane
Yet the impossible promises never stop
"You're going to be okay"
I'm gasping and drowning for air
While you're begging me to stay
So close to the end
And I never felt more alive
I just took a shortcut out
Of this never-ending drive
"...in a major accident..."
And the voices are drowned out by chimes
Because the only mistake I ever made
Was struggling to live all this time
So what's so bad about that?
I'l never see the finish line
But there was nothing waiting for me there anyway
Except a simple "dead end" sign

I wish,
that there was a guide to the human heart.
A map to how to make someone fall in love, because, that would make it all so much easier. “Just buy some flowers and she’s yours!”
But there is no roadmap. No shortcut, no magic formula.
It is like walking through a desert, looking for an oasis. You think you have found “it”... but,
when you raise your hands to drink…
the sand falls through your fingers.
One among the sea of faces, there are many fish in the sea, but I see one.
Shining bright as the moon in the sky, one pair of eyes, that will make you want to lie
Forever
Stargaze with me, no you don’t have to leave, we are infinite here, take my hand and have no fear.
You are not alone, don’t be battered by stick and stone, you are infinite… and they, are, limited.
Trust me please, take time to breathe.
I will run across the world and jog back around if I could just hear your voices beautiful sound.
We will fly high, and if anyone asks why
We will tell them to give it a try.
Live with no bonds, no chains no shackles,
and wonder why you ever listened to cackles,
people knocking you down to make themselves feel higher,
just wait eventually their judgement will tire.
