"shorn" poems
O all the spirits of love that wander by Along the love-sown fallowfield of sleep My lady lies apparent; and the deep Calls to the deep; and no man sees but I. The bliss so long afar, at length so nigh, Rests there attained. Methinks proud Love must weep When Fate’s control doth from his harvest reap The sacred hour for which the years did sigh. First touched, the hand now warm around my neck Taught memory long to mock desire: and lo! Across my breast the abandoned hair doth flow, Where one shorn tress long stirred the longing ache: And next the heart that trembled for its sake Lies the queen-heart in sovereign overthrow.

Supreme Surrender
I have shorn the hair of Samson And the tiger's claws unsheathed I have spit into the hurricane And defied as fires breathed The minutest one is fastest And the closest one to me The largest is the strongest The most likely to break free The middle is most cunning Spits and growls at my resolve Yet I face the fearsome challenge As should one the more evolved I have bravely fought the battle To triumphant victory As I fiercely clip the claws Of not just one cat, but all three Cori MacNaughton 20Mar2001

Victory
Who are these farmers, And who, these fertile fields, Verdant under native grass, That stand un-plowed, That shake beneath the plow, That lie now fallow, That bear the planted seed, That wear the heavy grain, That await the Harvest pain? And who, these Harvesters, And who, these close-shorn fields, Desolate in short-cut stubble, That stand, stiff in silence, That wear the heavy tracks, That have endured the harvest, That yielded up their dead, That bristle through the falling snow, That whistle wind-song low? And who, these merry Farmers, And who these stubbled fields, Glistening beneath the melting snow, That warm beneath the glowing sun, That host the migrants of the sky, That tremble the biting plow, That accept the falling seed, That wait beneath the welcome rains, That cycle through the seasons once again?

These Farmers; These Fields
Blackbird shadow death witness the spiraling madness glide silent over once vital beehive shorn gray paper thin sip raw honey hardening in the merciless heat nourish the suffering concentration-camp thin jutting bone slack skin reflect the boundless light of a shield wrought from love honor these golden futile gestures they are not infinitesimal grains Blackbird with beaded sight testify *do not avert your eyes*

Blackbird
As you lay there my wings are shorn away I was your guardian angel but now you've gone away My back is broken and bleeding not too different from your soul and my mind is aching I can't take a step I want to fly but instead of wings I have holes and a ****** mess

Wings
So here, twisted in steel, and spoiled with red your sunlight hide, smelling of death and fear, they crushed out your throat the terrible song you sang in the dark ranges. With what crying you mourned him! - the drinker of blood, the swift death-bringer who ran with you so many a night; and the night was long. I heard you, desperate poet, Did you hear my silent voice take up the cry? - replying: Achilles is overcome, and Hector dead, and clay stops many a warrior's mouth, wild singer. Voice from the hills and the river drunken with rain, for your lament the long night was too brief. Hurling your woes at the moon, that old cleaned bone, till the white shorn mobs of stars on the hill of the sky huddled and trembled, you tolled him, the rebel one. Insane Andromache, pacing your towers alone, death ends the verse you chanted; here you lie. The lover, the maker of elegies is slain, and veiled with blood her body's stealthy sun.

Trapped Dingo
crossed over to the island of found dreams. there is no way to know how to get there without the means and the schemes and the dreams slit their throats and pull out the teeth for good luck - run boy , run , slip into the otters skin and don't you dare look back watch out for the sontaran hive , it's a nest. up on the cherry hill tree we find only the stop , he borders the patrols it's not the edge , it's not the time - we've got many moons to go but we need to **** well learn how to fly this is the date to mark in your books , but summers last drop of flesh has been drunk and the slips become stumbles and the stumbles become falls and the fall is upon us, down is up - up is up. once more. stay feet on the ground , hover only a little - tell the weak from the weeds . much difference in shorn sleeves.

( kinda brutal ) ( not sensual ) (kinda ***** ) not. really. it's not even there anymore.
Curled under blankets with the shades pulled tight, I'm hoping for rain so I can't witness the beauty of the summer day. I think I hate it here but I don't know. I find myself wondering why I had to leave. I wish I was on the wind-shorn coast of Kilcar, tasting garlic flavored seaweed and drinking tea on the bluff after a long day of harvesting.

Unemployment
Draped in fresh-knitted pearls we traipsed into saccharine peach orchard The summer heat loped about our dew-kissed ****** ****** - appropriated from dawn spent on neatly shorn plantation grass Ambling into the knotted palatial arbor we sat each in our own tree crux behinds nestled upon ashen bark Juice dripping in our grip down our cast nets of flesh sprawled about the branches inset with gravity-defying liquescent orbs dusted in translucent mink painted with smears of citrine, coral, amber, and ichorous clinging to brass stem The rondures secede to mandible taut between palms pull and polished ivories - torn- Fluent in dulcet discourse We cloak ourselves in provocative juice tatting Until such time that our congealing garments were found mapping the bark's topography A saccharine map to the breath of soil Bloodstone ants found our map and had begun traversing - portent to seize our treasure We surrendered our jewelled cages and took flight to the sun-drunken lake to bathe and swim until heavy lids kissed moistly heavily supped on the draught sleep - beckoned transience

Peach Juice Lingerie
Thank Heaven! the crisis— The danger is past, And the lingering illness Is over at last— And the fever called “Living” Is conquered at last. Sadly, I know, I am shorn of my strength, And no muscle I move As I lie at full length— But no matter!—I feel I am better at length. And I rest so composedly, Now in my bed, That any beholder Might fancy me dead— Might start at beholding me Thinking me dead. The moaning and groaning, The sighing and sobbing, Are quieted now, With that horrible throbbing At heart:—ah, that horrible, Horrible throbbing! The sickness—the nausea— The pitiless pain— Have ceased, with the fever That maddened my brain— With the fever called “Living” That burned in my brain. And oh! of all tortures That torture the worst Has abated—the terrible Torture of thirst, For the naphthaline river Of Passion accurst:— I have drank of a water That quenches all thirst:— Of a water that flows, With a lullaby sound, From a spring but a very few Feet under ground— From a cavern not very far Down under ground. And ah! let it never Be foolishly said That my room it is gloomy And narrow my bed— For man never slept In a different bed; And, to sleep, you must slumber In just such a bed. My tantalized spirit Here blandly reposes, Forgetting, or never Regretting its roses— Its old agitations Of myrtles and roses: For now, while so quietly Lying, it fancies A holier odor About it, of pansies— A rosemary odor, Commingled with pansies— With rue and the beautiful Puritan pansies. And so it lies happily, Bathing in many A dream of the truth And the beauty of Annie— Drowned in a bath Of the tresses of Annie. She tenderly kissed me, She fondly caressed, And then I fell gently To sleep on her breast— Deeply to sleep From the heaven of her breast. When the light was extinguished, She covered me warm, And she prayed to the angels To keep me from harm— To the queen of the angels To shield me from harm. And I lie so composedly, Now in my bed (Knowing her love) That you fancy me dead— And I rest so contentedly, Now in my bed, (With her love at my breast) That you fancy me dead— That you shudder to look at me. Thinking me dead. But my heart it is brighter Than all of the many Stars in the sky, For it sparkles with Annie— It glows with the light Of the love of my Annie— With the thought of the light Of the eyes of my Annie.

Acceptance called out, evoking astonishing silence Ringing in a whispered new kiss Of velvety sensations murmuring sweet promises Such delicate pure visions of bliss Unforgettable missives powerfully pulsated within Profoundly affecting all feeling Shimmering on the edges of what has to be Treasured without any ceilings No confines, shorn of imaginary bounds to present Nestled in shining perfect peace Acceptance called out, evoking remarkable silence Ringing in a spectacular release When our eyes meet tenderly, with arms open wide No imaginary bounds or ceilings exist Just the velvety sensations murmuring promises In the sweetest taste of your kiss

Your Kiss
From vales of dawn hath Day pursued the Night Who mocking fled, swift-sandalled, to the west, Nor ever lingered in her wayward flight With dusk-eyed glance to recompense his quest, But over crocus hills and meadows gray Sped fleetly on her way. Now when the Day, shorn of his failing strength, Hath fallen spent before the sunset bars, The fair, wild Night, with pity touched at length, Crowned with her chaplet of out-blossoming stars, Creeps back repentantly upon her way To kiss the dying Day.

This world is full of dreams many are lost, found & salvaged by others. Some fade, starved of thirst; ghosts haunting minds’ mirage. But, there are those rare sparks; shorn flashes of brilliance, blazing through self-existence. Yes. Our world full of dreams.                            © Qwey.ku

Bright Apparitions
Shema (“Listen”) by Primo Levi loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch You who live secure in your comfortable homes, who return each evening to find warm food and a hearty welcome ... Consider: is this a “man” who slogs through mud, who has never known peace, who fights for scraps of bread, who lives at another man's whim, who at his "yes" or "no" lies dead. Consider: is this a “woman” shorn bald and bereft of a name because she lacks the strength to remember, her eyes as void and her womb as frigid as a winter frog's? Consider that such horrors have indeed been! I commend these words to you. Engrave them in your hearts when you lounge in your beds and again when you rise, when you venture outside. Rehearse them to your children, or may your houses softly crumble and disease render you equally as humble so that even your offspring avert their eyes. Primo Michele Levi (1919-1987) was an Italian Jewish chemist, writer and Holocaust survivor. He was the author of two novels and several collections of short stories, essays, and poems, but is best known for If This Is a Man, his account of the year he spent as a prisoner in the Auschwitz concentration camp in Nazi-occupied Poland. It has been described as one of the best books by one of the most important writers of the twentieth century. His unique work The Periodic Table was shortlisted as one of the greatest scientific books ever written, by the Royal Institution of Great Britain. Levi's autobiographical book about his liberation from Auschwitz, The Truce, became a movie with the same name in 1997. Keywords: Holocaust, poem, Italian, translation, man, mud, woman, bald, nameless, houses, homes, bread, eyes, womb, empty, void, frigid, lifeless, horror, horrors, hearts, write, etch, engrave, inscribe, children, offspring, disease, avert, reject

When I say I’m a nudist I am told I’m disgusting But then, I keep forgetting It’s that “people don’t **** thing. And people don’t **** And nobody ever craps. They just keep their napkin Tucked safely in their laps. They don’t belch, not ever, And nobody picks their nose. It’s the way of polite folks And that’s just how it goes. Well, let me remind you Where you were born, And where you came out of, And that you were shorn Of any kind of clothing Both mother and the child. You were born like the animals Both domestic and wild. You are naked one assumes When you shower your body So, please quit acting like ****** is something shoddy. Your parent put such madness Inside of your innocent head; Things like getting re-dressed Each night when you go to bed. The insanity of Europeans Who came to American soil And wore LAYERS of clothing In the heat while they toiled. Then they went to other lands And warped the people there With the strange brand of madness They had been taught to share. They were taught to be ashamed Of what god had given them; That their private parts were evil And turned you into a golem. And when asked for a reason For this weird kind of crazy They started talking about god When their logic got all hazy. So you “people don’t **** folks Can just kiss my naked *** That thinking might work for you But for me it won’t pass For anything but brainwash And the programming of the sick. So wake the hell up, the rest of you And get on the natural stick. If I want to be naked all day And you want to wear clothing That should be each of our choice; A personal ‘go or don’t go’ thing. I mean, for a perfect example here Think of laundry bill savings So, you can just stop harassing And gnashing and raving. Brent Kincaid 4/12/2015

A patriotic fervor producing fealty A noble cause compelling loyalty Paired with a callous indignity Brash enlistee plunges toward destiny Honor's badge worn with impunity Duty's moniker embossed with magnanimity Insatiable bloodlust quelshing all insecurity Unbridled ego clamoring a garrulous enmity Toward the villains who shattered blithe serenity First skirmish, pageantry displaced by gravity Mettle varnished with aura of invincibility First battle, fallen comrades question mortality Successive battles, severed limbs, caustic wounds challenge credulity Fragile mind being conditioned to atrocity War's heavy mantle now shorn of indemnity Threatening mind's sanity, hearth's perpetuity Once faceless foes now scream their humanity Once noble leaders brim with insincerity Supportive countrymen now fickle, distant entity Cheering press now rank with duplicity Only solace, hardened comrades equanimity

Civil War Soldier's Mantra
A traveller am I on the roads of the world. In my wanderings have I seen lands famed in story and shorn of all glory today. I have seen the unheeded ruins of insolent might - its banner of victory is gone with the wind, like boisterous laughter stilled into silence by a sudden thunder-clap. I have found stupendous pride humbled to the dust, dust on which the beggar spreads his tattered rags, dust on which the traveller leaves the print of weary steps to be effaced by the ceaseless march of unnumbered feet.

The Impermanence
True Stories #1 This is the first of what will be a series of little vignettes. When I was fourteen, I was the alienate hipster rebel In a private school hellhole. Hair long, tie knot never pushed up, Unbuttoned button-down shirts, Camus lover, Siddhartha disciple, Small acts of disdain, Expressions of teenage hell-pain. One day, the principal Threw me out to get a haircut. Went to the nearby barbershop, Which was in the underground, Subway stop. Returned to school where It was Pronounced unacceptable. Twice more this charade-escapade, Went on, till the barber cried and would not Charge me anymore. Shorn like a lamb, My mother roared like a lion. The next day, the man in charge, Who would marry my second son, Three decades later, Called me in and sort-of-apologized. From that day, I never respected authority, Only learned to fear tyranny. See photo of my latest protest!

True Stories #1
Her hair has been shorn Her face cut and bruised Her flowing gown torn The beauty once in her eyes Faded Drone strikes Warrant less searches Roadblocks and pat downs Eaves dropping Secret eyes and ears Always listening Always watching Be careful what you do Or they may come after you Swat teams and armored cars Men clad in black Weapons at the ready Waiting to attack They have her now Imprisoned Cold shackles hold her hands Her breath is low and shallow Seems that death Is now at hand

To see what we have never seen, to be what we have never been. To shed the chrysalis and fly, depart the earth, kiss the sky, to be reborn, be someone new: is this a dream or is it true? Can our future be cleanly shorn from a life to which we're born? Is each of us a creature free - or trapped at birth by destiny? Pity those who believe the latter. Without freedom, nothing matters. In the real world as in dreams nothing is quite what it seems.

Tick Tock
I think I should have loved you presently, And given in earnest words I flung in jest; And lifted honest eyes for you to see, And caught your hand against my cheek and breast; And all my pretty follies flung aside That won you to me, and beneath your gaze, Naked of reticence and shorn of pride, Spread like a chart my little wicked ways. I, that had been to you, had you remained, But one more waking from a recurrent dream, Cherish no less the certain stakes I gained, And walk your memory’s halls, austere, supreme, A ghost in marble of a girl you knew Who would have loved you in a day or two.

Four Sonnets: 02 (I Think I Should Have Loved You Presently)
time steals up soft in autumn’s haze through fallen leaves and frosted morn no longer smiles through summer days bears dreadful gaze of mercy shorn scribes lines upon youth’s winsome face and brings the ache of stiffened joint gives halting stride and slower pace age piled like leaves does thus anoint yet in thine eye dwells springtide’s bloom in ardor’s dance is lightened tread warm voice dispels autumnal gloom at gentle touch are decades fled for love knows naught of count of days let the years flow as they will unclouded passion’s flames yet blaze I shall be thy lover still

Lying on the bed I think of what to write... ....words don't flow out of my pen my mind is clogged vaccum surrounds me I've ****** all the noise into my self. It's waiting to explode. I realise I am too conscious of myself, I realise I am trying to pretend. My pen leaks out a random flow of ink shaped in words I strike them out they don't manifest my feelings. I don't want farce to appeal to the eye, I want honesty to touch the heart. I am waiting for my words to strike a chord with the strings of my heart. I am longing for clarity that will give my writing a sense of purpose and shorn it of its randomness. Lying on the bed I think of what to write.... ....my mind is a clean slate I want to colour it with thoughts and feelings, I want for it to lose its barrenness and be fertile with imagination. I want for it to be bereft of fear for it is, the place where revolutions were conceived and philosophies were born; the sole reason for Man's greatness. It boasts of coveted freedom, which, feared tyrants failed to ****** it is a guiding light to the often faltering humanity. It has been subject to manipulations, deceiving history into changing its course; scripting moments of momentous change, all, of course, owing their occurrences to the enchanting influence it wields over the body. Lying on the bed I think of what to write.... ....my mind is deluged with a rush of thoughts flowing in and out, a haze of colours mesmerises me, letters, words dance before my eyes, songs play out in a loop, a multitude of smudgy-outlined faces gazes at me.... ....And I realise with an epiphany, It is this very train of thoughts I shall elaborate on! Lying on the bed I think I know what to write on.
