"secreted" poems
Went to my magwinya lady today, she's contained at the canteens on north campus, As she rose up her left eye was bluish ****** grey, A lump in my throat formed not as big as the one on her face, my eyes secreted their salty solution, my mind quickly processed confusion, "M-m-m-m-may i-i-i p-p-lease have five magwinyas" She smirked at my muttered utterance as she began to fill the thin transparent plastic with the oily flour-filled ***** I reluctantly asked "What happened to your eye?" She responded in Xhosa reasonably assuming my common cocoa coating meant our tongues matched until I told her otherwise. Eventually she simply said, "Fight". I said, "you got in to a fight?" She said "Mmm". I went over to my banana lady and said the magwinya lady has a black eye and she casually claimed, "Her boyfriend beat her yesterday." Confirming what my teary eyes and lumpy throat knew to be true when I saw my sweet magwinya lady with a swollen eye ****** grey and blue. Frustrated at the nothing I could do. Powerlessly pirched on a brown bench as the black sparrows chirped pleading for a piece of my last magwinya, Should I tell her to escape? Is that even my place? How many black eyes are blotched on this bruised land i, a fearful foreigner, trace? I'll bury my brain in my book, somewhat cowardly crook, I'll see what i saw but take no second look, like a camel's head in the sand, I'll timidly tell myself these things are just too hard to understand.

black eyes & silent sighs
The oxygen secreted from the walnut tree, the snap-pole green beans growing up the side of the rusty garden fence, and bags of aluminum cans stored  in the shed with the old cash registers from the antique store. These are the golden frames caught and edited onto organic film, etched into grey matter, projected from a foggy lens onto reflective marble. We abandoned the clubhouse because of spiders; they took the place for themselves after a storm. Our new abode was the patch of grass between the walnut tree and the fence in the back corner of the yard; shady, rough terrain from fallen walnuts, and the grass always had a slight dew in places. "The place where the snakes live" is what we called it when we were sprouts; now we could catch them in both hands. One night, the wind blew over the shed doors; flimsy, sliding rail, aluminum thing. We slinked in and got to play with the old adding machines, foreign tools, jars full of door hinges, and rusty hand-crank egg beaters. Eventually, the roof of the shed collected so many years of twigs, walnut husks, and foliage fallen that tiny trees began to pop their heads up from the clutter. Crickets underneath the gutter guards- two types; the black singers and the ones you have to dig for that will draw blood if they get a hold of one of your fingers. Sometimes, if bravery was roused and boiling, we would drift closer to the railroad tracks in attempts to catch yellow jackets, or even hornets. One popped their stinger into the back of my neck.

Cousin Punches

an all purpose cleaner response to the how-ya-doing-question, as my vibe unmistakable; the hatred in the world directed at MY PEOPLE, is inexplicable, beyond reason, a hatred raw and pure in the tiny places we humans hide it, lest our ancient linkage to an unreasoned, embarrassing emotion, be revealed but now revealed it is reveled, as the freedom to despise is a valued thing is an ancient scar, now freshly wounded and the two thousand year old accumulated, callused, surrounding wafer thin, layered upon layer of tissue, wiped away in utter disbelief cleansed, a different kind of impure clean, “like” an ethnic cleansing, traceless, whisked away in a wink of moment, a goner. like hope, prior sentient optimism sentenced to life imprisonment and this sentence, and this very sentence! written finally understanding that it is a punishment far worse than the quick relief of death. c’mon, how about a few “fukk you jew” cri de coeur, heartfelt, genuine, pointless hate no, not I, no, not me, spare me the pithy comments, the pointless sympathy, glistening like evaporating water droplets before disappearing, I ask myself, not why they hate, why it persists, for this I understand and accept the foulness of what we are capable of is, beloved, as a secret pleasure, now secreted in torrents. no, I ask myself, why do I write poetry, for it is as pointless as the hatred directed at me, from birth, till death, and ever after, the humanity of poetry just another fraud another reason why this man cries in the bathroom,^ not from any shape of shame, because poetry is pointless in times of hatred, and now we know, recognize, it is always somewhere, nearby, always present and prescient, pointless hatred, itching to be pointed at me, makes for pointless poetry. To whom shall I point my poetry?

a love poem, of new & old, why I am the summer-man!^ summer is winding down, sky’s multi blues freezer safe stored in ziplock see thru bags, marked and named by hue, the where and the when, so when the eyes finally fail, when the squinting don’t help, when the good things those good blues aroused, poems, lush and morning thanks for being alive come-not-at-all, quite the opposite, these cold blues may help, to recall why it was worth breathing summer is winding down, so am I, the synchrony no accident, time, the Pharmacy kitchen calendar claiming another victim, willing or not, those cars and the blue eyed models, are now but blurred wishes and hopes, even these words, spoken, not finger scribed, for the keyboard a jumbled jungle of alpha-numerical of confusion hellish and my sons don’t come to clean up my pathetic messes, sending their little children, beloved concubines of my heart the daytime watcher, spanglish her native lingo, tho single words she’s pretty good at too, but that don’t help much; the grands, toddlers to pre-teens, the eldest a womanly eight, tries but soon frustration bored, slips away quiet like replacing her with her two year old sister, who knows her alphabet which ain’t an exactly a help, but her five pencils stored^ nearby, tagged with her name, awaiting her poems, her one true legacy try to imagine her as a grandmother, farseeing the day when she occupied this too too hard to-get-out-of-by-myself “easy” chair, making rhymes with her next-next generational  descendants, faint remembering the silliness sorcery that I secreted in her brain; zingo, bingo, lingo tango, ginkgo, jingo, ** ** oh no, oh no! ashes, gray hairy poppy is a silly, when he is not a grumpy, old man all fall down! which she acts out with giggles galore, adding a teacup embellishment, a creme fraiche pearly teeth smile topping, the day watcher agrees, verrry verrry funny, but time to me *** and take a needed morning ***** no poppy! no poppy! no poppy! no nap, no *** no ***** thinking the call out is for her, stomping her feet in an alternating rhythm and rhymes I, happy poppy, ecstatics drooling out, foreseeing the rhyme is strong in her, get wheeled away crinkled and crackling, *zingo, bingo, lingo tango, ginkgo, jingo ** ** oh no, oh no! ashes gray hairy poppy is a silly, when he is not a grumpy, old man all fall down!* a new genre me of gibberish summertime love poems

1670 In Winter in my Room I came upon a Worm— Pink, lank and warm— But as he was a worm And worms presume Not quite with him at home— Secured him by a string To something neighboring And went along. A Trifle afterward A thing occurred I’d not believe it if I heard But state with creeping blood— A snake with mottles rare Surveyed my chamber floor In feature as the worm before But ringed with power— The very string with which I tied him—too When he was mean and new That string was there— I shrank—”How fair you are”! Propitiation’s claw— “Afraid,” he hissed “Of me”? “No cordiality”— He fathomed me— Then to a Rhythm Slim Secreted in his Form As Patterns swim Projected him. That time I flew Both eyes his way Lest he pursue Nor ever ceased to run Till in a distant Town Towns on from mine I set me down This was a dream.

In Winter in my Room
~the heart of (the) matter~ ~~~~~~ an essential phrase, that concentrates the instincts not to sway away,    be focused on, by the always present algorithm of the essences but my version preferred is that "the heart of matter" with skill and effort, one can learn, to shoot arrows honed to be near an-almost-bullseye every time but to understand that the heart is matter, the mother of our body parts, the little engine that could, can and does, and asks only refresh it with fresh blue blood, every second (not to much to ask for) what are/is the sinews of the heart? what are its secreted corpuscular (1) composed of? why words, you silly! each beat, a letter,       the heart doth register its creativity incessant, never ceasing to rest for composition is its goal, to sing to write, to weep from pleasured thoughts and deepest fright, and you say you need inspiration? then listen to your writing vibrations that from thy center emanate, you who toil laboriously when all that matters is the matter, the wonderful matter of who when where and why that chatterbox in your body never ever pauses ***and that is why in the matter of god, have no doubts only a god could have conceived of a world of billions of composers where each one of us matters***… 5:19am Wed Sep 10

the heart of matter
the cherry blossom accord/equation ”perfumers use aromachemicals to recreate a cherry blossom accord...(an accord is a scent made up of individual aromachemicals, that when combined, create a harmonious blend where none of the individual ingredients are able to be detected on their own).” the odor of our lustful eyes, the sweat, a unique commingling, a sheen of salted oils body bathing, crushed green petals of peaches, crumbled together with the softy fuzz shavings, the sediment of aromatic fruit juices drippings our blending bottled in our brains, none other would recognize but we, to too two smell each other through and over floors, concourses, cities, disparate distances our ingredients secreted (secret), our flavors cell secreted (secreting) the world’s silly tittering aroma inserted, our sparking fingertips touching add a bush burning burnt odiferous we seat across from each other in an airport plastic restaraunt and everyone asks out loudly, what is that smell, feed me that, taste me that, as we are irradiating the atmosphere, as we renegotiate our cherry blossom accord, fresh signatures, updated, harmony of harmonies, notarized she smiles, I joke, winking, we must continue to meet like this, the fireworks of we, of us, to-gather to-gether, a getting of giving, she answers: *take me home and bathe me in love, give our bodies shelter from the world outside, beside a new spice have I uncovered, this will require some discussion+exploration, the quantity to be added, the when, and the how!* what is this new ingredient? asking puzzled and aroused, she laughs (a spice already included), why it’s called only love poetry 8/23/19 4:55pm

Anthropos apteros for days Walked whistling round and round the Maze, Relying happily upon His temperment for getting on. The hundredth time he sighted, though, A bush he left an hour ago, He halted where four alleys crossed, And recognized that he was lost. "Where am I?" Metaphysics says No question can be asked unless It has an answer, so I can Assume this maze has got a plan. If theologians are correct, A Plan implies an Architect: A God-built maze would be, I'm sure, The Universe in minature. Are data from the world of Sense, In that case, valid evidence? What in the universe I know Can give directions how to go? All Mathematics would suggest A steady straight line as the best, But left and right alternately Is consonant with History. Aesthetics, though, believes all Art Intends to gratify the heart: Rejecting disciplines like these, Must I, then, go which way I please? Such reasoning is only true If we accept the classic view, Which we have no right to assert, According to the Introvert. His absolute pre-supposition Is - Man creates his own condition: This maze was not divinely built, But is secreted by my guilt. The centre that I cannot find Is known to my unconscious Mind; I have no reason to despair Because I am already there. My problem is how not to will; They move most quickly who stand still; I'm only lost until I see I'm lost because I want to be. If this should fail, perhaps I should, As certain educators would, Content myself with the conclusion; In theory there is no solution. All statements about what I feel, Like I-am-lost, are quite unreal: My knowledge ends where it began; A hedge is taller than a man." Anthropos apteros, perplexed To know which turning to take next, Looked up and wished he were a bird To whom such doubts must seem absurd.

I will walk with you in dreamland, and verdant trees will brush our brows with hoary leaves, and silvered fish will swim in untouched seas. The sun will warm our hearts and kiss our cheeks as does the doting father. I will walk with you in starlight while the incandescent crescent marks the ground with dappled light, and the night watchers will peer at us through leaves up, up away where they are secreted and safe from sun’s harsh glare. I will walk with you in meadows where the peonies and bluebells prosper, soft and slow, kissing sweetly as their petals brush our skin. And the meadowlark shall sing for us, her song of joy sent forth in notes of gold. I will walk with you forever, down the path untamed and tangled up in brambles, and also down the road so clear and straight and gilded by the sun with bricks of gold. Wherever you shall go, my darling, I will walk with you.

John Muir See the photo, on a stone walkway in a park on an island, somewhere in New York State *Years after first encountered, Returned this day, purposely, To trod this bricked-path Where a solitary brick, these special words carved. This brick, a patient lady-poem in waiting, Required a search-and-locate mission, To verify my memorized eyesight, Freed to release these words, Years in the forming, from whence first espied.* **When a woman plants a tree, she plants herself. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~** Much less than obvious, Import of said statement, Complex, notes, scents, questions... Perhaps this is the thus, the why, Why this po-effort, somnolent, yet disquieted, In recesses, drew lines on the wall, with one line Slashed across, for every month, It gestated, unborn, but not offering to die, It did not come effortlessly. I am seed of man, Planted within woman. I am a tree of  iLife , My seed planted within You, iReader. I am as much woman as man, Perhaps more so... Wrote you, told you, I Speak Woman^ Perhaps more so... Even better than man. No shame, I rise with the dawn, To bake the bread, Alongside her, her secrets, she has, need learning, Her bread, raisins, cinnamon and secreted inside, Wisdom of loving kindness. She scatters seeds with recklessness, Who can know where wheat will be needed, Someday, her children exiled? Forest investor, tree planter, Futures she sees, where others see but wood, I follow her lead, for I cannot but fail to Prosper, when on paths tread, Formed, excavated by her footfalls. Oh! pleasant exercise of hope and joy! For mighty were the auxiliars which then stood Upon our side, we who were strong in love! The limestone they say is no blood relation to such alien fructification, those oceanic intruders, bleeding still, spilling secrets in reds and purples. The acid tears spilled in lemons merely neutralised in syllables, sedimented to a community of limestone, that possess no archaic remnants reminiscing through dead bones, an age of glory. I write love poems for her too, Like this one.* Kisses incessant, ten thousand for the present, ten thousand more, stored away for the future, secreted in this poem lest my lips dare to forget how! Hugs galore, beyond no more, limitless, defying foolish boundaries of "enough, grandpa!" Limit is an artifice, a mind-made precipice, kisses for the children, are ethereal, open sky-wide, limitless, here and now, forever, for herein, an oath sworn, taken. All-new ****** lands (except for the natives) dying to be properly deflowered and nailed and ******* and erroded to make way for gun forts and gold mines (they can be built!) they're called Zale's and they love money funny, not to all but to enough call them crazy call them savage but maybe they just love their homes and don't own the kinds of weapons that make the loudest noise but that **** the slowest and with least dignity. Color-me a Cosmo girl fit to be cover material, just look at my hair look at Pocahontas, you know she was bald? Hideous, un-English in every way probably because she wasn't but gotta give credite where credit is rejected, overdrawn maybe never even earned just splurged and secreted but wanna hear a secret? The land belongs to nobody not a soul not a body not a mind they knew this but knew others were destroying it that's why they were mad, not because they were children who had their toys stolen but because a living lifeless matter was being assaulted catapulted into the future of steam engines and fried chicken feathers blowing in the winds of convertables they took scalps to maybe open the minds to the error of ways not that one's head should be disassembled but one can't seem so oblivious or wide eyed when shown the facts of obvious emotional response but we are young dinosaurs were old and we have time to forget.

He’d been able, after some gentle persistence, To wheedle his way into the place (He’d been vaguely recognized by the caretaker, A certain affable familiarity his stock in trade, after all) And he had been decidedly deliberate in his search for the shoes, Though he’d been quite certain where he’d left them, Simply hoping to drink this all in just one more time But though the rooms were ostensibly unchanged (He'd noted the odd knick-knack and piece of bric-a-brac Had been secreted out, to be preserved or pawned) They held no fascination for him now, Simply concoctions of hardwood flooring, Decorative wall coverings, staid pieces of furniture (Indeed, the paterfamilias of this whole mélange Increasingly beyond his recall-- he could hearken back To a certain hail-fellow-well-met in his demeanor, And he'd had an affecting smile, But he was unable to conjure any further details From the recesses of his memory) And with nothing else to moor him to these silent rooms, He'd slipped on the ostensible reasons he'd come in the first place (Their uppers maintaining their whiteness Through any number of bleachings, The soles worn to a near smoothness) And, nodding perfunctorily to the mansion's steward, He slipped away, heading to some other party Carrying on in more or less perpetuity, The battered bottoms of his shoes Leaving just the faintest marks as he crossed the dunes, Soon to be buffed away altogether by the breeze.

The Editor, The Scribe, No Jive
omnipresent sick to my ******* stomach dressed in mosquitoes that are woolen like the lining of my english ******* and coated in a complex mixture of secreted proteins i follow the screen of the teleprompter as it storms, blue and brilliant behind a mess of optical wiring. lip and teeth theres bile at the base of my throat threatening to bust with each greased second as my brain becomes nauseated by the snow-drift of sentences burning the back of my eyelids. i've never believed the things i read so now i'm mute but spitting, spiteful and unoriginal visualizing their greyhound decapitations in high colour. nearly implying transit to our friendship or something that would only churn the stomach like rich food after famine so yes, i am the cruelest female of august shipwrecked on the front porch with the lamplight raining in my mind and i'm asking the moon as it rises like a solemn word why i'm sick all the time, sweating from everywhere but my tear ducts and waiting for several breeds of cold to attack my corpse

Letter to Cinderella (and her Texas Fairytales) ~for EJ Love~ now lookee here, girl, slow down pardner, blanket love-spells need to be addressed, especially if a return requested back to the great state of big ole Texas as I am loved in Texas, I’m well aware how hard it is to find love in wide open spaces, more trucks and cows than people, which is NYC in reverse, both hard places in different ways to make angelic fairies appear, released intact from busted soap bubbles so here’s my idée fixe, to the reading, less, to the writing, more, command thyself to march towards the seventeenths poem, and many more to arrive at the promised hallelujah take the formless visions, potions, drifting in you, figure them into words, shaped with passion and cunning, twitching in a creme of teasing, a dollop of wanting, a whimsy, sense of humor, stir with another’s pinky finger, bigger than the ineffable lone star of lonely, an eye tear for flavor, a salty secreted ingredient, that needs, requires another’s hand to wipe away and a flashing neon sign: Texas Red Amber, Chops, and real good loving desired! only good loving people, steady on their feet, need apply, poets favored, but a certain kind of cowboy, ok as well what be my expertises in matters these, why I am your chastened, mean no more, sweet sister who see your spells flying by, who writes to you with newly learned humility

strangely, I think that this ought be, must be, responsibly, be the best poem I’ve ever writ, (though unlikely, as the best will always be the next) that mine own eyes commissioned, better be, just got to be, this holy-moly notion jeepers weepers, conceptual rocks me deepest, an awesome responsibility to find away of saying that this beyond conceptual, coring, especially special sample If there was to be a but one, a singularity, a distinguishing feature of what the human definition innate contains, how choice that we animals, elevate ourselves to being human beings, the only ones capable of wonderfully weeping the implications are an astounding! what a glorious burden, what a wonderful decision, the designer slipped in this microscopic checkmark, somewhere in our cellular DNA perma-dynasty, runs a common thread, these saltwater fears, a residual global amniotic fluid hint, from where we humans out-of-crawled that empathy, the signal of an elongated journey of eons, the marker that says show the caring, a trait-ed statement, us, unique so often do I weep, sometimes visible - in my poems listed, oft indicated - so you could know its sharing was an absolution that I granted myself, that that particular  poem was a costly one, womb bloomed, tongue taken, eye written sometimes invisible  - even more, do they, (nobody knows, nobody sees) just well up, eye cornered kept, secreted, only skin-staining the underneath-my-eyes one more shade darker, a reminder to all, to mirrored me, that to forgive myself doesn’t forgive forgetting is this then my best? sufficient to breech your reserves of pseudo-cool, that correct boundary pretense that keeps us as mismatched separates? you be the judge, you be the jury, you be the prosecutor and the defender, for it is all of us standing in the dock, on trial, for in our lifetime guilty of the inhuman crime, of not crying enough
