"scorched" poems
January cold desolate; February all dripping wet; March wind ranges; April changes; Birds sing in tune To flowers of May, And sunny June Brings longest day; In scorched July The storm-clouds fly Lightning torn; August bears corn, September fruit; In rough October Earth must disrobe her; Stars fall and shoot In keen November; And night is long And cold is strong In bleak December.

A young she wolf is born Scorched fur of molten lava and heated coal Flames consume her path She leaves a soot trail Ember eyes shine the spark of life The animal instinct to hunt And so she will hunt Through the hell that surrounds her The hell she creates A paradise of flames “The Fire in this Wolf lives”

I started drinking coffee, not because I enjoyed the taste, or even the burst of energy it gave me late at night, but simply because you loved it. Always seen with that coffee stained smile. I hated it though. I had hated its bitter taste that no amount of sugar or cream could sweeten. I had hated the way it scorched my mouth and throat as I slowly gulped down the warm liquid. But I drank it. Every morning and night, tricking my mind into thinking I liked it. You soon moved on from my try-to-hard self, and left me all alone, with a coffee stained frown.

Coffee mind
I reached for the stars, And I think I may have reached too far. The stars, they blistered and scorched my hands, While I was just trying to understand Of why in the first place I was there; Up in space throwing a glare at the moon. The moon who shun a godly, divine light, And at night Who was so bright, white, And elegant. Space who was dark, and as dim as my soul: The colour of ash and coal. I was just trying to obtain a stupid goal That I had. And the moon was white, and the space was black. The stars were gold and I had my back Towards the earth. But the gold stars and the white moon were not all that When they brought down an evil wrath On me. So the sun, who I actually feared, Cradled and held me near. Rocked me from side to side and called me dear. Circled the earth and formed a year To teach me that looks can be deceiving, Misleading, And can lead to infinte internall bleeding.

Deceiving Space
It’s all you’ve ever seen in a midnight’s dream the zero sum games and exorcised demons asinine plunges on tunkwa brides phantom fingers cradling the ragged red dress shadow hands clasp at the floodgates lava fields boil through scorched amber veins needles pierce the look out where flames dance wildly over boneyard grounds deep red pedestals behind bleeding walls empty halls and doorways throughout the sinful nest bulging eyes and blood rush in a dark crimson sky a funeral, before I die

Fever Dream
Down the back alley on the cold winter evenings your eyes stared only at me I didn't smoke as my father gave up yet i didn't dare disagree you parted your lips you drew in a breath and your body relaxed in turn exhaling slowly, you grin and you show me how much your body did yearn for the taste of a cigarette the embers and ashes matches and lighters, causing flickering flashes you said I didn't have to but I said I didn't mind that the smoke in your mouth would soon be in mine I did not draw back my mouth- under attack I just had to last the duration because I didn't smoke the taste scorched my throat and gave off a burning sensation It must have felt different as just in an insant You stub out the cigarette with a hiss silently relieved and now more at ease oh, the things that you do for a kiss

All we really want is to make our mark Getting caught up in the what and the how We loose track of our ground, our feet That have been in motion since breath And there we’ve already begun And left remains Our desire for remembrance clouds Our ability to pulse in the zone We currently inhabit Like animals we compete To find the best of the best and the rest aren’t important? The dew of the new is just as fresh as the old ones tale revived on a cold night but by the summer sun I am scorched By each, equal

Earthquake Poem 3/5/2014 What do you suppose an earthquake does? Sure, there are the shakes and scares, Seismic shifts accompanied by tectonic tears. But ditch this global perspective, Figure out what rips those ripples, detective. Let’s see you pound at the ground. Hit it hard, ‘til you hear a heavy sound. Is that enough to fissure some asphalt? Tell me, could you bring this spinning planet to a sudden halt? I can’t say for sure, what an Earth-quake does. Though I’ve been a victim, Earth isn’t where my quake was. An Earth-less earthquake, On a planet whose name I’ve learned to forsake. Wynn’s world wandered ‘round someone else’s orbit: Drawn to its gravity like grapes grow on a vine; Brightened by its solar system’s shining smile, so divine; Emotional tides tugged in and out; Guided by its mysterious moon’s midnight meandering about. That’s right – an orbit with its own time flow. Time that could stomp its heels and steal a spotlight, Time that could manipulate a moment like jello, mayonnaise, or some other squishy substance, Time that could crash course, while standing still, Time that could reveal something you never knew. What do you suppose an earthquake does? A quake could be anything that makes you shake. Think of quaking in fear, as an unknown figure draws near. Think of a jittery heart, that’s been bit by a bullet. Internal tears, think of organs bleeding, Think of needing, solid ground, but falling and time keeps stalling. When a quiet little quiver promises to deliver, its slight shock signal straight through the middle. When a molten magma core fizzes its manic madness, like a shaken soda. When an epic eruption carries out its upward excelsior, Rejecting the spinning without a stop. Oh, the mountains will tumble, The hills and valleys, they’ll crumble, And gurgle in the raging rivers’ rumble, As volcanoes churn out violent bubbles, Stirring up all kinds of troubles, For one person’s personal planet. For one person’s personal planet, These violent forces of nature can’t compare to an Earth-quake, When the ground you stand on begins to break, When you realize your senseless stability is fake. When that little quake knocks your Earth awake, It’s reality coming alive to take, and take, and take, Because for love, you put everything at stake. What do you suppose an earthquake does? I’ll tell you – it leaves a wrecked world with a cracked core and scorched surroundings. Just because. Just because, love on Earth always comes with a quiet little quake.

400 years America , For 400 years America, we've been playing this game of cat and mouse, and for 400 years America, you refuse to give us the keys to the house. For 400 years America , we've been asking to be free, and for 400 years America , you sat there and you promised me, all the freedom I could ask for , for just a small fee For 400 years America , we've been paying that small fee in sweat, and a concenratred mixture of tears and blood For over 400 years America , we've had to watch our people bleed , for over 400 years America , you've literally scorched and scathered and destroyed our seed. For over 400 years America our sons, daughters, fathers , mothers have bled and for over 400 years tear after tear was shed The flags that represent you, make you free . But the same flags that represent you, don't represent me. The flags that say "all men are created equal" considered me an animal and there seemed to never be a sequel. 400 years later and still "no refuge can save, the hireling and slave from the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave" I am not blind, don't need a stick or a stave, I am not foolish, I see the road that you page

"Bring me the sunflower so I can transplant it to my earth scorched with salt, so it can display all day to the azure mirrors of sky the anxiety of its yellow face. Dark things stretch towards brightness, bodies exhaust themselves in a flow of colours: this in music. To vanish is thus the hazard of venturing. Bring me the plant that leads where blond transparencies rise where life dissolves like essence; bring me the sunflower crazy with light." Eugenio Montale

Bring Me the Sunflower by Eugenio Montale
*I roar with a bravado that echoes throughout the deepest caverns of brave souls yet with every time there lies a risk of my own reverberations shattering my heart I am fragile glass fashioned into the fearsome form of a lion I have been chiseled at by Father Time and Mother Earth, carved away by my pains and my worries. I am no façade; there is nothing ornate about me designed to hide something heinous I can shatter just as easily as my mother’s prized china set But I roar on even as I chip away; my joints creaking and my body scorched. Do not mistake my scratches and cracks for weakness, I have demons of my own. I walk this ground with the hope that my roars, in spite of my fragility, will instill a sense of hope into all of you with glass hearts such as mine.*

Glass Lion
Nine years and still we cradle our grief carefully close, like groceries in paper bags. Eventually the milk will make its way into the refrigerator; the canned goods will find their home on pantry shelves. Most things find their proper place. Eventually the hummingbirds will ricochet against scorched air, their delicate beaks stabbing like needles into the feeder filled with red nectar on the back porch. Eventually our child will make her way back to us. Perhaps. But I’ve heard that shooting ****** feels like being buried under an avalanche of cotton ***** For now it’s another week, another month, another trip to Safeway. We drive home and wonder why it is always snowing. Behind a curtain of snow, brake lights pulse, turning the color of cotton candy, dissolving into ghosts. And with each turn, the groceries shift in the seat behind us. From the spot where our daughter used to sit, there is a rustling sound— a murmur of words crossed off yet another list, a language we’ve budgeted for but cannot afford to hear.

The Storm that rages in her heart as she cries. The Lightening that strikes her heart as she watches her son bleed as he dies. For over  400 years America , we've had to watch our people bleed , for over 400 years America , you've literally scorched and scathered and destroyed our seed. For over 400 years America our sons, daughters, fathers , mothers have bled and for over 400 years tear after tear was shed The flags that represent you, makes you free . But the same flags that represent you, doesn't represent me. The flag that represents words that say"all men are created equal" considered me an animal and there seemed to never be a sequel. 400 years later and still "no refuge can save, the hireling and slave from the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave" I am not blind, don't need a stick or a stave, I am not foolish, I see the road that you have paved America! For over 400 years, America, My brothers and sisters have fought for your pride We carried your rifles, we lifted your flag and still you were snide For over 400 years America, for you battles we've won 400 year later you still point your gun It's been 400 years America, Gotdammit I am not a slave I want my rights and you will not tell me how to behave! You've always had freedom white man, and you don't know how bad I crave! that my kids grow up in freedom and for that I'll be brave to the grave. Even if it kills me, I will not let the color of my skin decide whether or not I win. I will not you let, America, and your adulterous, heinous sin control me and the condition I am in 400 years later America, and you act like you still don't know their names 400 years later America and you still plea ignorance, you don't feel their pains Emmit Till, Trayvon Martin, Freddie Gray These are some of the lives from us you took away 400 years later and you still make us pay and that's not okay.... To you slavery was yesterday and we should shout free at last? To you the last police shooting was last week, we shouldn't riot,  it's in the past, You want us white washed but we can't shake the scars from centuries in a caste Freedom isn't free, but I still believe, I still believe that someday my eyes will see, all nations, all skin colors under one tree, connected to one vine, to the divine

Nothing works out in the end. All of us will be gone. Our name will not be remembered. The signs and lights will fade to black. The Hollywood sign will collapse of old age, like us. Poppies shrivel up, their red coats falling onto the scorched earth. Grapes transcend into wrinkly sacs of bitter wine. The way your hand slipped in mine, the fingerprints will rub away. Our heart beats slow, diminish. Our laughter evanesce, wanes as our voices descend past the Pacific ocean.

We both have felt like charred trees, Tearing out each other's roots and Setting each other's roots on fire. We've fought Tooth and nail Clawing out each other's eyes, So we can't see. But today you smiled. And for once I felt bad. You were alone friend. And yet I left you. I meant to be nice. But what to say? Reconciliation. We need to replant our Scorched roots And hope that the seedlings Sprout in the wake of our Beautiful disasters.

Who owns those scrawny little feet? Death. Who owns this bristly scorched-looking face? Death. Who owns these still-working lungs? Death. Who owns this utility coat of muscles? Death. Who owns these unspeakable guts? Death. Who owns these questionable brains? Death. All this messy blood? Death. These minimum-efficiency eyes? Death. This wicked little tongue? Death. This occasional wakefulness? Death. Given, stolen, or held pending trial? Held. Who owns the whole rainy, stony earth? Death. Who owns all of space? Death. Who is stronger than hope? Death. Who is stronger than the will? Death. Stronger than love? Death. Stronger than life? Death. But who is stronger than Death? Me, evidently. Pass, Crow.

Examination at the Womb-Door
An island of ash signs of a past life Melted black rock Scars of the last breath When this land gave it's all Red hot passion spewed from its lips And swept over everything that made this land A volcano thought dormant Tried to love again Poured it's hearts out Even as the magma scorched all the good That once called this land home now marks this dead earth With this one last eruption One last confession This volcano died And took everything with it forever in torment This volcano is now forever dormant

Dormant Volcano
Junk the ancient rules of thought by which our predecessors fought Their clashing minds did throw a spark that scorched the world and wreaked the dark Let no science fix our path if only numbers make its math Our brains will run will surely see on some sweeter philosophy Until beneath a quite sky atop the rubble we will stand and finally demystify the message in fate's reprimand Even an atomic blast can't rub the future from the past If with incinerated grace we still become the human race.

Ancient rules of thought (From the movie After the Dark)
Like the sun, she brightens up my day Always there, never far away Like Mercury, She’s scorched with beauty A dazzling image for all to see Like Venus, A goddess in my mind A divine gift for all mankind Like Earth, Her heart is where I make my home An aura so real, I never feel alone Like Mars, Her hair, it runs with red she annihilates any tear I shed Like Jupiter, She has the largest heart She herself: a work of art Like Saturn, Beauty surrounds her like a ring So light and divine, almost floating Like Uranus, She goes against the grain Free from the world, she breaks the chain Like Neptune, Her passion rages like the wind she sets out like a storm to rescind Like Pluto,                   So distant but never forgotten Dancing for eternity around the sun

Crushed to death under falling leaves Drowned by torrential rain scorched by sun, and fades away, and never speaks again the sober simply sickening sapping all my electricity the waking under midday light’s reflecting off the mirror tiles I placed this all beneath me but it always ******* backfires Crushed under a thousand falling leaves Drowned by a million drops of acid rain scorched by the sun and fades away, and never ever speaks again Shining black, incandescent watermarks that line the present and presently I can perceive a personage, just above me It speaks nonstop and slowly and never ever ******* leaves Crushed under a thousand falling leaves Drowned by a million drops of acid rain scorched by the sun and fades away, and never ever speaks again crushed to death and fades away autumn leaves became a grave drowned by rain never speaks again the undertow of passing waves the autumn leaves became a grave the undertow of passing waves.
