Basketball stands for war or battle. That's why I think about the players' personalities, in my foxhole or squad. Danny and Ben are fast and smart. Dan especially can pass making him master and commander. To defeat them as we did is pst satisfying. Ben's five year old son disdains to answer my question Why are you you? But I'm not here to catalogue the men's personalities. I like them. But each of us has moved on many times, when ___________ suddenly died the games went on with hardly a mention and his name has since been forgotten. But even this, absolute mortality of not just our bodies but our names and souls is not what I came to talk about. Yesterday, between games, I asked Joe how Molly his daughter likes the high school. He mounted an impassioned defense of reading as the indispensable skill when I suggested math, the scientific method and history are essential too. Also between games Bob diffidently asked why my kids are bald. I was moved by the care he took to satisfy his curiosity, concerned the subject might be difficult. He's a political science teacher so I took the opportunity to ask What ails the republic? Of course I answered myself wanting mostly to hear myself talk about Iraq and how empire is self-correcting. For once I was amusing I thought, treating the subject with a light touch heretofore lacking. But none of this is what I came to say. A new guy, long quick and strong, a bulldozer under the boards with a good outside shot if needed got into a dispute with the other Bob who likes to tell people what to do sometimes, about an offensive foul Bob called which we almost never do. The new guy said If you can't take it don't play under the boards which is what I say when I'm ****** and don't give a **** Bob said You've been pushing and shoving me all day. I said He doesn't want to be pushed and shoved which got a wry smile out of Danny as I put the ball in play.

I am from VapoRub, From Goya And morisoñando. I am from the traffic And loud horns, From the Caribbean heat, And the city lights, From the buildings And the towers. I am from the palm trees And the coconut trees, Dancing bachata And merengue In the beach, From yaniqueque Y plátano, From tostones And fish. I am from Sunday gatherings And loud family members, From Jose, Maria, and Primos, And the hardworking Payamps clan. I am from the Madera’s baseball team, From Canó, Sosa, y Ortiz, From the long summer rides To ***** Cana And Samana’s beach. From “work hard Cause life is not easy” And “family before friends.” From Christianity And Saturday morning sermons, From God is good And He brings joy. I am from Santo Domingo And Monción, From Santiago And Spanish ancestors, From mangú con salami, From rice and beans. From the grandpa Who owns the village Surrounded by Chickens, cows, and bulls, From the business owner And the well known uncles In my hometown. I am from the only flag With a bible. From the red, blue And white. From the most beautiful Island in the Caribbean, From Quisqueya y Libertad. I am from the Dominican Republic, The country that holds The people I love and Miss the most. I am from the Little Paris box I keep next to my bed, Filled with precious Gifts and letters That make me feel A little closer To them.

Another beautiful state in the Republic of Bhaarat, It is plagued by cross-border terrorism, How they redden the green valleys is appalling.

They came for us with tanks and guns. We stood our ground—the old and young. All our troops had mustered round our Capital--Sacramento town. A New Republic, we’d declared, and its defense, among all would be shared. With the Bear Flag flying high we all came to fight and die. Young men in their combat boots repelled the dictator’s first wave of troops. Civilians came from South and North to resist the fascist ruler’s force. From Frisco and from San Jose, from San Diego and L.A., from Calistoga and Marin, thousands had come pouring in. Then US bombers burned the city, for the orange Fuhrer had no pity. They won the battle, but we all know from history, how these things go. An occupation cannot last against a people whose strength holds fast. The tyrant’s troops will tire, while we will fight on, until we’re free.

Enigma entity’s ethology entelechy as it relates to clairaudience clairvoyance. Everyone has a personal futurity fatidic or existential metaphysique. What we need is a universally acceptable form of id conclusion. Unfortunately we can’t even agree on the social stigmatisms of ego’s expression. We are relatively extraneous interpolations of adhesively practical extremity that succeed in a hierarchy of functionally integrateable forms. There is no functional deontology, even though its visage would seem to portend cogently fecund probity for all. We are not ethereally sublime, we are corporeally preternatural. Objective is individual; obligation to each other is not a mandate. Though many might find it inherently indispensible to some it impedes success. The depths of debauchery this debacle ensues are almost intrinsically endemic to our race. How am I going to get there becomes more important than ‘what are we fighting for’. So, if there’s no unity of purpose how do we decide who we are fighting for. Will it be good for all or lead to oligarchy and subjugation, the seemingly inescapable byproduct of capitalism, the inherent decadence of socialism. It’s times like this that make me love the constitutional fortitude of Americanism. Theoretically I have an inalienable right, hypothetically this leads to anarchy so I’m not allowed to mess with your rights. This is mandate. The republic for which we stand. Mendacious tales of unity, not merely the obstinate tenacities of I, but also the cogent fecundity in the infamous we-ness of us.

Kumasi, the Tree City, The Kingdom City with a divine eagle Standing bravely on a mighty stick, The unquestionable love that embraces The soul of the arch enemy, The tradition that swallows The ancient courage and modern pride, Kumasi, the Tree City, The mighty city that lies under The flying wings of the Beautiful Okumanin tree, The golden city of the Western Sudan Planted by the arm of the Almighty, You are truly the dwelling Abode of unity and majesty, Kumasi, the Tree City, The echoes of your ancestral spirits Do not sleep nor slumber You that provides a comfortable Seat for the grandson of The almighty Krobea Asante Kotoko, The modern pride of the great Ancient mother of Yaa Asantewaa, Kumasi, the Tree City, The great son of the vulture, Otomfuo Osei Tutu, may not Appreciate your present State of modernization, For you have surrounded T he Golden Stool with Carelessness and filth, Your crime rate has swept Away the memories of The great Okomfo Anokye, Kumasi, the Tree City, Oh, the inhabitance under the protective And motherly wings of the great tree, The Ayoko kingship deserves a clean land, This great city must regain Her serene and inviting sweet-scented Greeny and stable environment, For mother Ghana has always Pride herself in your glory and dignity, Kumasi, the Tree City, The precious eye of Asanteman, Never deny your former glory, Oh, the pride of West Africa You still have what it takes To be the Garden City of West Africa, You are Oseikrom indeed, Okumaninase, the capital city of Kwaman, The heart of the Republic of Ghana. © PRINCE NANA ANIN-AGYEI Email: [email protected]

India was a secular state even before recorded history, We welcomed all religions even before time, Jesus is said to have come to Kashmir after Good Friday, The English were welcomed just for business, But what they did was occupying the nation, As if that was not enough in itself they tried partitioning us, After they endured the second world war, They did decide to leave India to mind theirs, But they decided to divide us into two. One was the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Another was named as the Republic of India, While they just tame corrupt extremism, We tame irrationally extreme corruption, We host unrealistic & unimaginable scams, Sinners of all kind in the world are present here, But there is some hope from our secular identity, We are a progressive nation and I am so happy today. One day will definitely come when India will be reunited.

Above cushioned wall seats, Where locals sit with dogs At their feet, Hang photos Of footballers Smiling still after near-forgotten games; A farmer stands beside his blue ribbon boar; Horses tethered to carts, Near soldiers smiling with The Republic's grimmace of war. Outside cobbled streets Lead to stone bridges Walls and houses, Near the shade of umbrella trees. Turrets stop whispers Wrapping their heights. Black, white and fading. Nine o'clock arrives And pictures shake From laughter And music, The click of dominoes, And clink of pints, In the pub life.
