"render" poems
"Why one writes is a question I can never answer easily, having so often asked it of myself. I believe one writes because one has to create a world in which one can live. I could not live in any of the worlds offered to me – the world of my parents, the world of war, the world of politics. I had to create a world of my own, like a climate, a country, an atmosphere in which I could breathe, reign, and recreate myself when destroyed by living. That, I believe, is the reason for every work of art. ... "We also write to heighten our own awareness of life. We write to lure and enchant and console others. We write to serenade our lovers. We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospection. We write, like Proust, to render all of it eternal, and to persuade ourselves that it is eternal. We write to be able to transcend our life, to reach beyond it. We write to teach ourselves to speak with others, to record the journey into the labyrinth. We write to expand our world when we feel strangled, or constricted, or lonely … When I don’t write, feel my world shrinking. I feel I am in prison. I feel I lose my fire and my color. It should be a necessity, as the sea needs to heave, and I call it breathing." ('The New Woman', 1974)

Anaïs Nin on writing
A steady cadence   pulsing in a heart beat like rhythm, voices and strummed instruments all in harmonized concert, An orchestral multitude, of frogs and crickets, never tiring or ceasing, How many must there be, to render such a cacophony? Sustained and loud enough to keep city folk wide awake. Nature's Music of the night, should you but choose to listen. How do they do that, all night with absolutely no intermission? A crescendo finale triggered only by the coming dawn's first light, and the boastful crowing calls of our cocky persistent red rooster chicken. Where these musicians go in daylight is anybody's guess. To sleep I suspect, deserved resting up for yet another night of endless music.

Night Music
The landlord rented his space. The landlord became suspicious. He received complaints from other tenants, Within a couple of weeks about loud music And laughter coming from her room. Banned from having friends in their home, People would arrive in a van nightly during the summer. The details of which emerged in the trial of insurance businessman, Who was accused of helping her, Without their knowledge. She accused the abuse after a plea. His mercy, Her punishment. ‘The past is still very much a reality’ she whimpered. Forced to watch for five months, The wolf spoke as she faced the hearing Without a translator. They are forbidden to speak. For her first 23 years, she was tortured. Anti-social behaviour is having more than two people in his head, Playing music so loud, That it can be heard, Outside of him. The only person to feel the same resigned. The landlord asked the hound to verify the affair. He handed two leather-bound volumes containing a map of the marks. It was on that day, The landlord took the decision to leave seriously. Once known, He made the claim and gave no hint as to the tenant’s identity. Up for a chance to win, We wish you safe travels.

8. Render Loyalty
I’m rendered powerless. Just about breathless. I watch as each layer of clothing gravitates toward the floor. Strip off the clothes that enveloped his beauty. My knees begin to fail me. Through his stare it feels as though he’s already probing every crevice of my being. Eye-fingers ravish me. He’s bare. My eyes haven’t left him. He smirks, refusing to leave me a spectator. Clammy hands penetrate the chill of the tile lined room. He strips me. I'm sure he senses me shaking.. goosebumps begin to rise. We step into shower. The tap is high, the temperature hot. The passion as well. He’s capturing me. Rapturing my frame, Grasping me. Gasping for me. He pulls me into him.. into the air. My legs incoherently wrap around him. The hot vapors aren't from the water, but our lust we heed. It’s wet. "Think ya can make it to the bedroom?" My throat closes. Barley touching, the pleasure, pressure, of his words render me unable to respond clearly. I nearly whimper out an answer. The smirk returns. This act meant for cleansing morphs into such a ***** one. I’m miserable within myself, the sheer amount of desire burns. Pushing me to the wall his body presses against me. He pushes into me. His hips. His lips. I feel him sliding in and out, violating, his tongue twisting around my own. His body as well. We’re intertwined...

Yes! Oh, *wala ng bawian, mamatay man, period no erase*!

I am but a driftwood All but forgotten from whence I came A place where once had a name A time when all was good I am but a driftwood Set myself adrift Currents they lift Bearing their latent gifts I move as they shift I'd protest if only I could I am but a driftwood Over a body so vast Over wrecks with broken masts Spiteful winds howl with angered gusts An eternity that would last Eroding my integrity like it should I am but a driftwood Know not of where I'm headed Render me hopeful but will me jaded Pillaged and plundered Looted and raided Swallowed and spat out, ocean's food I am but a driftwood Lost and forlorn out at sea Awaiting land that would receive me Take me in like I'm meant to be Give me your sand, bury me completely Keep me in the safety of your hood I am but a driftwood I remember the place from whence I came A faded dream with a name Still drifting away from all that's good

What truly is the definition of righteousness? Is it determined by act or by mind? They say a good man fights for justice, peace, and prosperity. But then, can a man of such moral truly remain so if he turns to violence as an answer? Does his intent to create marvels render him of moral status though his methods may empower death and promote war? Oh, this man is peaceful himself, taking letters instead of bullets to battle but his lyrics dislodge society in a manner not all approve and so begins combat. Can this soul carry such holy title, if the repercussions of his strung together words are strung up necks? Or is the good man the one who turns away from the world's fight to be his own embodiment of ethical beauty? For the one who remains silent causes no direct pain; he himself is passive and tranquil and moves to inspire such conduct in others without commanding it. But his silence encourages fierce vehemency and wildness. Does this fact not taint his name? The first man had pure intent, but with his tongue he spit sparks which others used to ignite a fire and burn the world. The second did not fight himself but his chosen hush could never end the blood rain, and so his lack of sharp verbosity allowed knives to flash and blood to spill. So I will ask again, what determines morality? Though this time with a grounding response; morals define morality. Each man's mind renders his own flawless ideal individually, and so one's perfection will always be another's monstrosity. In truth? There are no good men, or at least not one to all.

Sleepless Nights, City Lights, Keep me awake, But don’t let me choose the sleeping pill to take. Sleepless Nights, City Lights, Cloud my mind, Render me blind. Sleepless Nights, City Lights, Invade my thoughts, Never let me connect the dots. Sleepless Nights, City Lights, Never let me go, Never let me recall what I owe. Sleepless Nights, City Lights, I’m afraid of the dark, But I never want to see a spark. Sleepless Nights, City Lights, Shut my mouth, Or else my luck will fly south. Sleepless Nights, City Lights, Strip me bare, Keep me aware. Sleepless Nights, City Lights, Why am I alone, So unknown? Sleepless Nights, City Lights, You’re everywhere and always, The only thing I can bear in this haze.

Sleepless Nights & City Lights
Day by day I fritter away Observing decorum as best I may Meet me as you meet — reserved somebody Leave me as you leave — dull nobody Dreary, weary, listless, spiritless A resting spirit clamours to emerge Unguided, wild, free and seeking Boldly defying reserved somebody But how, just how do I unleash this defiant spirit For it is to cross all conceivable limits Oh but a mask, of course a mask! The perfect accessory for this task! Careless of propriety Boastful of daring Acting against my will Or in tandem with it? This mask — just now I can't discern Ponder I do with great concern Does it shield my identity Or render truth to it? So now just what fun in masks One may ponderously ask Masks, bring to life fantasy Fantasy, a realm of our reality Reality, wherein lies multiplicity Multiplicity, within each individuality

The One & Many
Growing up, I was taught the story of two men One built his house upon the rocks and one upon the sand And I learned the difference between humility and pride I was taught to differentiate the foolish from the wise Because when God sent the rainfall and the waters began to rise, The house on sand crumbled right in front of thoughtless eyes And my father would tell me, "Darling, don't build your foundation in the weak, in something that might die" But I've been constructing my home on gravel my entire life If there is a God Why did he let me build my house upon the sand? Why did he lay down every brick and let the nails tear through my hands? I am an urchin in the dirt leaving claw marks in the earth And my cries fall from my mouth and cling to my tattered shirt If there is a God Then why would he call himself a Father to me? Why would he want to break my heart and crush my dignity? He prides himself on the ringing in my ears and his mason jars of tears Instead of being my faith, why would God want to be my greatest fear? If heaven is where he is, then hell is anywhere but here If there is a God And he's my Father And he is so divine Then why did I grow up so sick and sad and tired all the time? Why would he instill doubts from Satan himself for everyone to see; "You're inadequate Inadequate That's all you'll ever be" My mistakes render me useless, At least, that's what Father says of me And if there is a God, And he's my father How could he walk away as if nothing ever happened, although I have seen it all before Because what happens in this House of Heaven stays behind closed doors He would enter his bedroom, and leave the door open just a crack So when he would read his Bible and show us how a true Christian should act I'd turn to my little brother and say "I wish one day we'd be holy like that". The mortar in my walls are breaking and the water is rushing in I wish so badly to repair it, but I've always been like this The dirt I fell in twenty years ago is matted to my skin The cuts on my soul since childhood are all I've ever been I'm sorry Father, for I have sinned And I have nothing good to show And I don't mean to point the blame, Father, but sin is all I've ever known If there is a God, would he let me stand before his throne? Would he take me into his arms and treat me as his own? Would he wash my ***** shirt and let me stand where the saints have stood? Would he help me build a house upon the rocks Like a father should? I wonder if I can build it well enough to reach him Because my current house can't as long as its this way If there is a God I wonder what he'd say about me I am the prodigal daughter you never learned about in stories

Poems on a Mirror ~for Glenn Currier~ you don’t know me I don’t know you; poems on a mirror I ken truly well poems on the mirror saved, and then, comme the seasoning of leave-falling, poems dropping and drained...the post-it glue loosened by the daily heat of watery tears, making a space for this one, for you... there are poems and they arrive with fresh arrogance, each an arrow demanding your all as a target regardless   of what the shooter really thinks or wants, other than obedient acknowledgment and their self-loving flattery but some render where no rendering should be allowed those are the ones affixed - ones you chose to join the chosen, slapped onto mirrors - so many that they almost cover complete your image from presentation almost only because these poems are yours, you, they’re the truly accurate reflection even if not your words, indeed especially because they’re not yours but they start your day as a poem should and in doing so, become you What a Hall of Fame, to be a poem on Glenn’s Hall of Mirrors go pick the plums...

Poems on a Mirror
Forlorn as a destitute child, I wandered to the distant wild; Through a peculiar lonelier wood, Like a wave, roving as fast as I could. Not long, I came by a myrtle river bank Where early boughs grow wild and rank. There my eyes kissed upon wild flowers, All grandly dressed in neon colours, Rhythmically whispering lullabies, Ineffably upon velvety indigo skies, Whilst swaying in a friskier dance, That could render naked eyes in a trance. At such a mesmerizing sight, I drowned in a pool of sweet delight Hence in wonderment shook my head, And in a velvety voice whispered: "Flowers, flowers, flowers, flowers What brings about thy Ineffable colors?" **And all flowers smiled and smiled, And exuberantly all thus replied:** "At dusk, when fair maidens of the night Grandly dress in flocks, of burning bright; And madly smiles about skies above, Oh! Their opalscent eyes we flowers love: So, from their pulchritudenous color; So lies the mysteries of our allure." At such a mesmerizing reply, Sweet delight oozed from mine eye Hence in wonderment shook my head, And in a velvety voice whispered: "Flowers, flowers, flowers, flowers What brings about thy ineffable colors?" **And all flowers smiled and smiled, And exuberantly all thus replied:** "At dawn, when the day's watchman Doth weareth his novelty crown, And treads upon yonder skies above, Oh! His golden crown we flowers love: So, from his pulchritudenous color; So lies the mysteries of our allure." At such a mesmerizing reply, Sweet delight oozed from mine eye Hence in wonderment shook my head, And in a velvety voice whispered: "Flowers, flowers, flowers, flowers What brings about thy ineffable colors?" **And all flowers smiled and smiled, And exuberantly all thus replied:** "When envious veils of dusk engulfs day, Paving the fairest Empress way; To grandly grace on yonder skies above, Oh! Her rainbow robes we flowers love: So, from her pulchritudenous colour; So lies the mysteries of our allure." At such a mesmerizing reply, Sweet delight oozed from mine eye Hence in wonderment shook my head, And in a velvety voice whispered: "Flowers, flowers, flowers, flowers What brings about thy ineffable colors?" **'And all,' all flowers smiled and smiled; I mean, smiled, smiled and smiled, I say, smiled, smiled and smiled, And happiness bloomed in the wild.** #bliss of solitude ©Kikodinho Edward Alexandros Jumeira, Dubai 6th August 2017

*eking out the ultimate gasp in my last breath of impulsion i collapse without a touch of grace at race's end how i made it i will never know dazed and in bewilderment i reminisce upon my journey an aggregation of barricades assailed me with iniquitous decadent delight seeming to writhe in triumph at my possible demise capitulating as it devoured and spewed me out the other side i humbly reassembled fragments of my near annihilation temporarily rehabilitated i recommenced the toilsome climb to the treasured peak atop the mount when in would come the tempest with its furor and render me asunder mere exhaustion is not the word for death experienced recurrently ground to mulch and back again screaming, pleading, surrendering proved futile as i newly met the same demise near incapacitation i miraculously emerged and scraping pulled myself with broken heart and bones scratching my way through the darkness toppling at the pinnacle to victory's end with exhilaration it dawns on me the long dark night is over i passed the test to realize it is not the finish line but only the beginning ©2016janetaylor

the long dark night is over
A touch is enough for a rush to send me reeling. I've been wheeling and dealing my way through chaos only to have found Myself knee-deep in it. I'm dying to get out, Lying to try to save myself, And fighting to get to you. A touch is enough of a rush to send me to Heaven, Enough of a rush to render me utterly speechless.

Touching.
Love is a violent act. I mean, how does something, So sweet and lovely, Make you ready to commit, Brutality and adultery, And render us so incapable, Of thinking past jealousy? With red words fogging our eyes, And a black void echoing between our ears, I think love is a violent act. For nothing like it, Motivates us to tear down cities, Dance in the ruins, And rebuilt something new, All for one person. Love is a violent act, That makes us take our hearts, Pry, rip and tear slowly from our chests, And lay it as an offering, To someone who doesn't want it. Love is such a violent act, Melting our brains and controlling our tongues, Numbing us to the fact that if we care, we will hurt, Giving us an addiction worse than that to drugs, God, it made us do so many things we shouldn't have done. Love is such an unforgivable, Violent, Act.

so i sit here with a hole in my foot with a hole in my head with a hole in this book with the hole in her eyes when she gave me that look with the hole in my face when i saw what he took the hole in my heart i still don't know the crook paper is just too easy to tear and you think i'm easy when you see i've been shook i think i need a hook now there's a hole in my stomach and it's feeling tight and queezy as she ties me up in knots of my poor esophagus her knuckles white from squeezing i breathing like a snake trying to shed the desert sun is hot so please lift this mask up off my head i try to offer a white flag but she kills me instead cause she doesn't like the things that she can't understand and so she holds her fists like they have holes in them holds me like there are holes in me cavities of ample opportunity for punishment and further tearing, no tears, none of this teething willful jeer i'll split and rewire, i don't need old fears i am only tired at best the pieces did not defy gravity they fell right out of my ****** chest but landing is a skill you see tear me apart for free and be my guest ripping down the wallpaper wrestling with the messes of stresses no one will unremember looking for the emotions you desperately want to render but while i'm still soft i'm no longer tender so remember when you enter that no matter what the temper of the sender or persuasion of the vendor i will not surrender to all these social mind benders there is a hole in my flag my blood is an involuntary badge no more flags, white stains too easily

There are some qualities—some incorporate things, That have a double life, which thus is made A type of that twin entity which springs From matter and light, evinced in solid and shade. There is a twofold Silence—sea and shore— Body and soul. One dwells in lonely places, Newly with grass o’ergrown; some solemn graces, Some human memories and tearful lore, Render him terrorless: his name’s “No More.” He is the corporate Silence: dread him not! No power hath he of evil in himself; But should some urgent fate (untimely lot!) Bring thee to meet his shadow (nameless elf, That haunteth the lone regions where hath trod No foot of man), commend thyself to God!

Once at a halcyon sea thee dare glance, And you'll see her smiling vivaciously To render eyes of thine into a trance By lullabies crooned rhythmically. And if thee dare saunter by the shoreline Upon a shingly beach in a brisk breeze, Kissed by glassy waves you'll feel so fine, For in mist of joy shalt thy worries freeze; Yet if thee stroll by a fine golden day With heaven's eye fairly raining her light, It'll betoken joy to forever stay Like of a bird upon her maiden flight. **In sweet delight it'll thus dawn upon thee, For nothing smiles than a halcyon sea.** #Decasyllabic #Attempt at a Shakespearean sonnet Kikodinho Edward Alexandros. 7th.Dec.2017. Whispers Of A Halcyon Sea (Sonnet 011)
metaphors are rubber bands we may extend them as much as we like we may shoot them at our classmates we may impress our professors with the shapes we can contort them into but the more we extend them the more we wear them out and its very possible that with all of our stretching and extending we could render our metaphors useless snap
