"reekie" poems
I didn't know when I'd see you again,
Four years loved and lost,
Right here.
Every time I leave,
I leave a part of myself behind.
My old self lived here.
Can I learn to love you again?
I watched lives get lost living here,
I lost friends and family here.
I cried and screamed here.
I watched people get married,
I saw relationships begin.
I laughed and smiled here.
No matter how far,
You never leave my heart.
Life took a turn,
And now I'm here.
I'm ready for my next move,
I can see myself growing old here.
But I also dream of leaving here.
The time has come,
The streets glow in the winter sun.
Auld Reekie, how I missed you.
It's good to be back with you.

Mcdonald says
A jimmy wis lost
in Auld Reekie
'n' sae asked
a polis boaby
is thare
a B& Q in Leith?
'
n' th' polis boaby said
Na bit thare is
a D & E in Dundee.
We hud a roar
'n' Finch bought
th' neist round o' drinks.
A scotsman wis
in a taxicab
whin th' driver said
Th' brakes dinnae wirk
'n' we ur gaun
doon th' road
'n' ower th' cliff.
Sae th' Scotsman said
If ye cannae
stoap th' taxi
at least stoap
th' ruddy meter.
Ah laughed
bit he juist sat thare
wi' that straecht goup
o' his
smoking his ***
wi' care.

Th' sound o' th' bagpipes
howfur it stirs th' soul
tae battle oan
ah wis tellt
by mah faither
that whin th' Germans
sawed a lone ****
comin' up th' beach
blawin his pipes
thay didnae fire
thinking mibbie
he wis a bawherr
touched in th' heid
'n' let him be
as ither soldiers
aroond him lay wee
or lay deid
moved back 'n' forth
by th' sea
ah mind hearing
a lone piper speil
in Auld Reekie
by Waverly Station
dressed in kilt
'n' stowed oot regalia
closed een
'n' ah thought
o' th' lone ****
comin' up that beach
blawin awa'
'n' aye
blows th'day.
