"proof" poems
I stand above my bed And examine the damage. Blankets this way and that Pillows all over Sheets tangled up around themselves. Proof of something that Only hours ago Left this place empty. I take in the rubble And breathe deeply. I lower myself down to those Tangled sheets And backwards bedspreads And fill my lungs with you. I pull them up around me And close my eyes And wish for this place to be The same kind of battleground Again tomorrow.

What is a Legacy What's the equation that leads to the sum that is A Human Life The curtain draws as it must and when it's done... We spill out of this "Life" a grocery bag of idiosyncrasies, neuroses, hypocrisies, and other I-sees What are we in the end but broken pieces of a puzzle we leave for others to assemble--who cares if the pieces fit. Someone found a Kind word here Another a Generosity A memory of a Lie Proof of a Cruelty Acts of Humanity by a human being acting... Who knows me well enough to define my Legacy? Who else but "I"

470 I am alive—I guess— The Branches on my Hand Are full of Morning Glory— And at my finger’s end— The Carmine—tingles warm— And if I hold a Glass Across my Mouth—it blurs it— Physician’s—proof of Breath— I am alive—because I am not in a Room— The Parlor—Commonly—it is— So Visitors may come— And lean—and view it sidewise— And add “How cold—it grew”— And “Was it conscious—when it stepped In Immortality?” I am alive—because I do not own a House— Entitled to myself—precise— And fitting no one else— And marked my Girlhood’s name— So Visitors may know Which Door is mine—and not

I am alive—I guess
There came a time in the history of Nigeria when she dreamed for independence, There came a moment in the history of Nigeria when she groaned to gain freedom from the British; There came a season in the history of Nigeria when she desired to obtain independence from her rulers. The moment when she groaned for independence, The season when she was ready to groam freedom; The moment when she desired to be independent as a country. The moment when she seeked her elites to stand up and fight for independence, The season when she awaited the voice and appearance of her freedom fighters; The moment whe she believed that independence was ready to answer the call of nature in her country. The moment when she believed to find freedom and independence which as that missing part of her that made her a complete country, The season when she trusted and believed in the treasure called independence; The moment when she hoped and desired to be called an independent and sovereign nation in the history of the world. The moment when she was expectantant of the mother called independence, The season when nothing meant anything to her except for the father called freedom; The moment when she still believe to be an independent country despite foreign exploitations, with the understanding that she could still stand up on her feet as an independent country. She believed that someone who understands her tears and passion for freedom and independence, will arise and fight for her freedom knowing that he will never bear to see her travail in birth for independence. The elites she knew not but believed was out some where fortiing and preparing themselves for independence and fight for freedom. Independence she waited for like an expectand mother of a child, Each step she took was believed to bring her closer to freedom and independence. She believed in freedom and independence for her country and it's occupants, and not colonisation and exploitation from the British colony. She believed in fighting for freedom and independence than dying a coward, She believed in her elites efforts to obtain her independence and sovereignty. She expected her elites to stand up and rage for independence to freedom and sovereignty, which they did when the opportunity and strategy came for them to uphold. She believed that destiny will bring her independence and freedom, when the hour of liberation from exploitation comes. She believed that her pains and heart beat was felt and understood by her elites. The name independence she was passionate about and the fame freedom she was desperate about. The memories of colonisation she groaned to erase and the histories of exploitation she desired to filtrate. The name independence she struggled to uphold and the gain freedom she strived to unfold. Before her moment of independence, she strived to make full proof of her countrie's ambitions, she sort self asset and not self liability. She seeked and desired independence and freedom from exploitaion which she got. Her dignity and hour as a country was restored on that fateful day of October 1, 1960 whe she gained and famed her independence and freedom. She believed in independence and freedom which she got. The death of her elites and freedom fighters was never in vain. This is Nigeria At 53 and she is still a sovereign and independent country.

You sat on the other end of the table Glistening, shining, and taunting me Rosy cheeks with spurts of Yellow and Green Silently teasing A juicy, little Apple. Hopefully no one would see me, no one would pay any attention As I grabbed the treat and the knife And began to dangerously peel. I knew I was doing it wrong My hands shaking while my cheeks began to flush Embarrassed by my ignorant inadequacy. Are you left-handed? she asked from my left. Humiliation filled the corners of my eyes, wet and distraught. No, I mumbled. My cheeks reflecting Mose's Red Sea. I was beginning to drown. Your thumb needs to move, You make me nervous, and she sounded nervous indeed. Put it down here. Help yourself control it. Guide it. Everyone was staring now, the whole table awed My ignorance showing, like a medallion at my chest My shameful Apple as pathetic proof. You're doing it wrong. Non così. Basta, faccio io. Let me do it. You're about to graduate, and you can't peel an apple. I began choking, drowning in tears of Humiliation. No, let her do it the small Voice on my left said. She is finding her way. Let me watch her. I finished peeling the Apple Suffocating my tears as I ate. You remind me of Daisy, she said soon after From The Great Gatsby. I choked and laughed, more ashamed than ever. I'm not sure that is a compliment. I could barely muster a mumble. She couldn't do anything by herself. She looked at me, gentle and forgiving. I think it is, she replied Wistful and Wise. Daisy was vital to the story, you know. And I believe that given the chance, she could have done anything that she wanted On her own.

With this pen, I paint an image of you. Not a portrait, but a true portrayal of you. The ink flows into words that dance across your hair. The end of each sentence marking a cross that you bear. A painting would be suitable for some. With beautiful colors, cascading down on you from above. But, those colors mearly hide the truth behind your smile. With the right shade of light and a light smear, it becomes a cosmetic fix for a while. My words flow through every crack and fill every shadow. They bring all light to the surface, for the reader to see within the shallows. The image of you that I create can be vivid and great. But with this pen, my words can also design your fate. You see the truth here is that my words hold all truth. They leave no place for lies to hide, with each word holding proof. In the readers eyes, my words are you… With this pen, I can create you… With this pen, I can finish you... - Brandon K. Stephenson

I see you through the window -sound proof glass keeps us apart. If only I could get through. I know we could share a heart. Attention! I shout and wave! You glance up... but look away. Happiness.. so much to share.. But you hear nothing I say.

From the ashes I descend, Rising among the flames, As shades of red. Orange and yellow, Blend within the explosion, Of my rebirth, Claiming my life force once more. My deep hazel eyes, Drenched in golden brown, Surrounded by a burst of jade, Speckled with dark green, Reveal my humility, Compassion and genuine kindness, Allowing you to behold, The window to my soul. The vessel, Containing my spirit, Conflicts with the feminine demeanor, Exposing sincerity, Comforting hands of a care-giver, The voice of loyalty, Gently escaping lips, Tears of empathy, Seeping with understanding, Kisses of affection, As soft spoken words, Depict desires, Hopes and the warmth, Of pure love. Mystery envelops my origin, Becoming a mystical being, With the ability to heal, The potential to inspire, Living proof of an alleged myth, Yielding in protection, As my plethora of feathers, Shield the individuals I adore, From darkness, Attempting to swallow the light, We yearn to discover. Blind Thoughts of denial, Shall forsake your eyes, If you pass judgment, Upon me, For my cloak of skin, Concealing my true beauty. As a Phoenix, I refuse to watch, The children of diversity, Suffer degradation, Living in fear of discrimination, Stifling the right to love another, To dress in garments, That correlate the body with the mind. I shall rage to cease, The hands of violence leaving bruises, Ignorance stripping, Breaths of air from a pair of lungs, As homophobia, Transphobia, and intolerance, Deplete individuality from a heart, Deserving liberty, The pursuit of happiness, A chance to survive. The Earth returns my soul, To reap the love, Concealed in assumptions, And sow acceptance into, The fields of society, As I continue, To soar into a cerulean sky.

If you are uncomfortable when you look in the mirror, keep in mind: We spent thousands of years trying to convince the earth she was flat. We wrote her maps as evidence of the things we saw; and she believed them. She cried tsunamis, and had earthquake breakdowns. Keep in mind: the Sun never gave up hope. The earth will keep spinning and breathing the star-dusty space void of encouragement. Next time you look in the mirror and second-guess your potential divinity, remember you will keep shining and living. Because the Sun is out there believing in you, compensating for lack of the human capacity to treat each other empathically. You don’t need proof or approval to be exactly what you are; Eventually everyone will see your infinite beauty.

Celestial Reflections
My name is Queen Stuurman. Not Queen Elizabeth, or Queen Latifah, but simply just Queen. I am a unique being born and raised in the roots of Africa, my culture and roots are proof of where I'm from, I'm not made in China. I AM PROUDLY AFRICAN!! A representation of my country, its war cry resides within me, my rainbow nation skin colour, the many stories about my beautiful country I have yet to tell in my head. So next time you see me, call me Queen Stuurman that's my Afrikaans and isiXhosa surname, made and bred in Africa, I am the African Queen.

African Queen
***Night came and conquered my ceiling Head tilted back to inherit it's familiar splendour. But she isn't there... Left my heart slightly gaping. O twinkly one, have you seen her?*** *She's mysteriously veiled tonight, Playfully on her halo, dances gentle light. Don't give up on her, listless moongazer, She wants to be conquered, put up a good fight.* ***Persistent skirmish that sets dreams and reality apart, Eyes don't see what the heart knows so clear, Clarity eludes when forgotten scars start to smart, Do you know if she even realises I'm here?*** *She knows, and dreams of your happy eyes, That only her will hold on their feverish gaze. Unbroken threads of hope, your yearning to baptize And her ice cold craters to be set ablaze.* ***Fire in my vessel still burns bright and strong, Never extinguished behind the facade of my weary husk, My flame would endure just as the wick is long, Tell me dear star, will I see her next dusk?*** *When the sun's swords will seize, slashing the sky in dazzling blue, When the air will bring a comforting ease, Her glistening "yes" will welcome you.* ***Your comforting words ring only of truth, Winking in codes, you might be right . Darkness had claimed and engulfed all proof, Will you accompany me through tonight?*** *This piercing question you don't have to ask me, For even though my light's billion of years away, Twinkling in your dreams I'll always be, The night companion, under your moon's ray.* ryn Dajena M

Dialogue with a Star
I battle my identity, As people try to label me, My mum tries to show me the right path, But is this really destiny? 9-5, Zero hours, Holiday and sick pay impossible to claim, Expected to work for 20 hours a day, Minimum wage, This society makes me insane, On the weekends I can I run away to raves, Take what ever I can to create waves, Not like the sea, like to much Dizzle, Party all night society says that's crazy, But whats crazy is the war on drugs, Some users just victims, Can't get enough. Instead of giving criminal records, Affirming our behaviour, Turning us riot, ruckus, snapping wires, How about a little support? After all how bad must life be, That children as young as 13 turn to drugs to escape? It's medical, Some say medicinal, But when your mums crying, Her heart dying, Because her baby boys been lying? No one wants police at the door, But it was gunna be the last night you swore. A new batch, strong stuff, you didn't believe And now your six foot under Rotting, deceased. But maybe this could change? If the right support was in place, For all those getting spaced, People will always seek a fix, So why not monitor, control and safe proof it.

War on drugs
Blessed are we all to live in a time when the love of Craft beer exceeds that for wine. Hops, malt and barley all now rule the day When brewed up together in a nice I.P.A. Who cares if some hipsters choose to babble away about hints of oak in some obscure Chardonnay. We are no longer limited to our father’s Budweiser. The vast choice of beers would astound those old timers! Cherry Wheat, pumpkin, and Oktoberfest You’ll fall down on your face ere you’ve tried all the rest. As Ben Franklin stated wittily and succinctly” “Beer is the proof God meant man to be happy.”

Oh1 Durga, the symbolic victory Over the worldly evil You can **** any devil And you are the most benign As you are divine Shiva (goodness) is your inseparable half Mahishasura’s ( Man’s evil) death Is your valour’s proof Goodness and valour are made For each other It is paradoxical that Man stands for goodness And woman for valour But it is true in divine parlour Hindus believe in Durga’s divine force Even others can not deny the cosmic source Even the staunchest atheist Can not deny the women’s collective fist

Vijaya Durga,the divine force
I always suspected electricity Ran rampant through my veins To make me dazed and dizzy But unable to sit still It made me prone to flights of fancy So I left giddy trails of sparks Blazing proof of my restlessness That once brightly caught your eye Once your gaze had found my own My moods came in swooning flares And you crackled alongside me Filling my aching, empty silence With shiny, blessed noise We burned so beautifully With my electric fire And your trilling declamations Light and sound intertwining Like thunder that had finally caught up with its lightning It seemed like Nature's order A completion of the whole Two halves that followed each other Unthinkingly and automatically So one day when I found silence It felt like Earth itself was splitting Panicked, I burned more brightly Stoked the fire just in case I feared that I had dimmed And been the cause of this new quietness So when I still heard nothing I thought my efforts insufficient And I ran my highest currents Until my wires nearly melted Thinking the sun and I were comparable And anticipating a response And still I heard no trilling No crackling at my side So I wondered if perhaps I had shined beyond your limits Swiftly, I contracted Reined in my flares and doused the fire Thinking sudden darkness Might just shock you into sound I finally heard the faintest popping Not quite the rending that I wanted But a break from quiet all the same Afraid of spoiling the moment I leashed my electricity Kept myself dim so I could hear you Though I felt the writhing beneath my skin It finally became unbearable So I flashed like wild lightning Lashed out and struck the ground Hoping for your thunder A dark and roiling storm Swirling raindrops and clouds colliding And deep, ugly noise All I wanted was your thunder But in the end It was only me yelling Screaming out for downpours Alone Listening to my own echoes Waiting for you to harmonize In the end I was always waiting Wondering when you'd chosen silence Wondering why I'd let you dim me Wondering how it was we'd ever burned

If it should come to be, This proof of you and me, This type and sign Of hours that smiled and shone, And yet seemed dead and gone As old-world wine: Of Them Within the Gate Ask we no richer fate, No boon above, For girl child or for boy, My gift of life and joy, Your gift of love.

If It Should Come To Be
My Heart and Mind had a discussion one day, About a man that they both knew quite well. The heated discussion continued for hours, Both with arguments meant to compel. A debate ensued between the two, With each taking a different perspective. The Heart believed the man to be true, And the Mind thought he was deceptive. Heart started the discussion with an obvious point, "He is sweet and gentle like no man before." Mind responded smugly, "That's great in the moment but how does he act after she's walked out the door?" Heart countered, already knowing the point being made. "Sure, he may not be able to write or call; He is busy with constant demands of his time. What he feels in his heart matters most of all." "I disagree," and Mind continued to say, "Actions mean far more than words alone. It is when words and actions are considered together that a man's true feelings are shown." "He has to compartmentalize to get through the day." Heart continued to defend his intentions, When they are together his feelings are real, but her insecurities span many dimensions." "It's funny you would mention compartmentalizing. Apparently your memory isn't as sharp as mine, He was once quoted as saying this was not his strength, proof that his statements don't always align." "You are cynical, suspicious and guarded." Heart was clearly tired of this dispute, "Those traits are clouding your judgement. He is genuine and telling the truth." "I think you are overlooking the obvious but I'll relax and stop doubting his intentions if he makes an effort to send a simple sign." Heart and Mind both wanting to prove their point and have the bragging rights of superiority. Mind sure that the man would disappoint her; Heart confident in his genuine sincerity. Both waited patiently for some type of gesture, Something to demonstrate that he really does care. Heart began to worry and whispered to herself, "Stay calm and trust that it's not just another affair." Patience prevailed and an email arrived, just as Heart had hoped and prayed. Mind, although disappointed by being proved wrong, was relieved and no longer afraid. Trust and calm filled her spirit when thinking of him, but it was both that won in the end. Maybe they were more than temporary lovers and could also be permanent friends.

The mind of that girl is a pain sanctuary whose aching decreases due to a world that's imaginary. From home she goes out to get away, and all those nights in stranges she relies. The soft morning breeze tenderly dries the tears in her cheeks, and childishly it peeks through her bloodshot eyes looking for a trace of peace. Nobody could really tell if she, bones and flesh, is still alive or if she's just a wanderer ghost. Probably the only one of her kind. The dark circles under her eyes are a proof of the restless crying nights. The tangled auburn messed up hair tells she didn't sleep at home, but no one cares. Picking up flowers on the way back home, humming songs that once made her feel whole. She rests for a few hours and once awake she grabs a pen, she writes down a poem before she gets drunk again. Somehow she finds calm in the simple things of life, and she tries not to think about the coldness in her eyes. Barely getting through, day by day, trying not to be absorbed by all the grey. Amassing countless heartbeats to the final point where life she quits.

The girl who is in ruins.
I think everyone dies I truly do Every time they close their eyes They remain motionless for hours Until they are revived Do you disagree? Clearly you do Care to show me your proof So that it may sway me To a more accepted pasture "Well what of their vitality?" "They still move and shiver" "And they breathe as if alive" "Surely if something died" "Their movement would cease" Yes, their heart beats, and yes, they awaken But I truly think they, themselves, leave Why do I arrive at this? You mean how, Through a simple observation I suppose it, at least, to me It began like this: When blackest blanket with yellow dots encircled The sky and the heavens above I found myself watched and groped by the air For someone was watching me When nobody was there.

My scars don't look like Anyone else's- They're more careful, Organized, precise and Exact. Not light, but Never deep enough Never deep enough Never deep enough Never deep enough. People always ask why I do such pretty patterns: Because this is the only thing in life That I can really control Control Control, And I find it so beautiful- Though, not so much tragic. My scars are not chaotic like a Car-wreck, They are consistent like a Coma- Proof that I was awake The whole time I was sleeping, And I could feel everything Even though I could tell no one. No one. That this Unconscious obsessive compulsion Demands order **Order Order,** it Insists by instinct, An intricate simplicity. Still, I will 'ever envy Those stitched gashes, once Gushing Gushing Gushing with surrender and Serenity... Each raised and rough coarse collagen fiber To form a white flag Forever etched in flesh; To tell the world They, were a slave to freedom- I am only a slave To myself.

549 That I did always love I bring thee Proof That till I loved I never lived—Enough— That I shall love alway— I argue thee That love is life— And life hath Immortality— This—dost thou doubt—Sweet— Then have I Nothing to show But Calvary—
