for Robert-François Damiens the Regicide

1.
"I" once ate pizza. It tasted of smudged sarcasm. "I" scarred my innards with its blazing oils. Now "I" remember it every time "I" nibble a tasty morsel, the pangs of a deadened sacrosanctity robbing my heart of its pulse.

2.
Pepperoni is vital for the one greased with illusion.
Cheese is necessary for the one who knows the word "soul" to be viable.
Tomato sauce is warrant for ritualistic exaltation.
Unleavened bread is the commandant of the fed world.

Sillyness gone serious

In the burning right hand of the bald city,
denizens frame calories and count instagram blessings
while beacons of hope refund inspiration in USADA pee cups.

Abyssinian maids wail over yesterday lovers
who wore Ginsberg’s skirt with less  pizzazz
and watched bedbugs suck blood off knee caps
wondering, what if Jesus Christ drove a Nissan?

As bullets of paragraphs fall Vietnamese pesticides on my head,
The dusts off my breath sing homilies
With letters of broken leather whiskey,
For even in the most dishonest jest,
clandestine toothbrushes are overrated
and every first false lie is the only truth.

Rushed by the stormy ‘purple rains’
Crescendos that picks in all peaks
Softness of the male energy portrayed
Prolifically flamboyant and eccentric

Ambiguous, mysterious sensual reciter
Classically unconventional and different
Shedding the specifications of gender roles
Crowned by dark shades of violet pizzazz

As the rain settles on the dusty grounds
As the soil solidifies and paste the others
As the dove wails looking for its nature
Rest in peace as the mascara waters down

Rest in Peace Prince

her pizzazz on the stage cannot be beat
she was the sassy dame of Big Spender
in a glittering gown she looks so neat

dynamic moves she would oft tender
verve goes into her one woman show
she was the sassy dame of Big Spender

with mic on stand she really glows
Bond Movie themes made her a star
verve goes into her one woman show

other cabaret act aren't of her par
Diamonds Are Forever so well known
Bond Movie themes made her a star

a Welsh lass with fab sounding tones
around the world her tunes are often spun
Diamonds Are Forever so well known

her fans think she is number one
around the world her tunes are often spun
her pizzazz on stage cannot be beat
in a glittering gown she looks so neat

Talking to a sorry seamstress.
Hanging out in New Orleans.
A witch, she stole you from you jeans,
Robbed you of your lover,
Sold you onto another.
Satan himself.

Exerted the most passionate of mind control.
When full of magic she robbed your soul.
Full of pizzazz and all that jazz.

Black cats and ravens.
Unholy houses, unsafe havens.
Voodoo.
Trembling zombies,
Out to munch.
Petrified lunch.

Potions.
Lotions.
Evil devotions.
Incensed.
Incantations.
New Orleans.
Zombie nation.

My reclusive muse,  realized her fault,
seeing me unkempt and miserable, remorsefully, she melts:
" kept you desolate, my love, it hurts my heart,
you have been sincere, it's my fault"
she kisses with pizzazz, filling me with blazing fire.

She strode the stage in swathes of silk
That swished in synchronicity
To the drum beat,
As in the heat
Her voice oozed electricity.
It coursed the room
With her perfume
In concert with those sultry tones,
Deep in the groove,
So velvet smooth
Like chocolate o'er the microphone.
All eyes were fixed
Upon that mix
Of swinging hips
And painted lips,
Her clientele a lust fuelled fire,
All whetted mouths and dark desire.
Yet in the midst of all those cheers,
The wolf whistles and sexist jeers,
She played her set of old school jazz
With elegance and pure pizzazz.

Welcome to la la la land.
Let the music play on.
Saturday's dawned.
Friday's all gone.
Left overs of Friday in the bin.
The lust of last Friday, got under the skin.
Saturday's back, off out to play.
A night of blessed sweet jazz.
Jazz music with friendship, all that pizzazz.

Coming down with something
     blame summer
point a finger at the city
worn-down pizzazz
     drunk trumpets
and I hide in my coat

trees look better without leaves
is it just me?
   see the sun bellow
   into buildings

student affairs
   like heat rash
bounce along hallways

foreign mumbo-jumbo
   mishpelt words

they say him met her
saw six pictures last night

I haven’t met me
   books know truth
not brunettes

good poetry
better than sex
they’re running running running away with it
between spritzers
   and sandwiches
   now snooze until Halloween
   brown back in fashion

    caught in the middle
    piedra de aguacate
I handle guitars
    they fiddle with women

now
   let apple juice trickle
from my lips
and a man gets out a taxi
    drops his phone

Written: July 2014.
Explanation: A poem written in my own time, another dealing with the 'city', in contrast to my ongoing beach/sea series. Quite different from my normal style of work, and expect more in the future veering towards this style. NOT based on real events, although partially inspired by them. 'Piedra de aguacate' is Spanish for 'avocado stone.' Feedback appreciated as always.

I like you.

What? I like you?!?
No no no.
You can do way better.
That is too vague.
Put some.... pizzazz into it. Like this:

You are incredible.
I find it impressive that you can keep me talking for hours
And it doesn't bother you that I never seem to run out
Of things to say.
I think your hair is beautiful
And I love that you keep everything so simple.
Your smile shines, and I can't help but grin when I see you happy.
Oh, and you give the best hugs.
In short, I like you.
A lot.

...See? A lot better.

...

...

Why didn't you say that to her?!? Aaaaahhhh, stupid!
I give up! You're hopeless and you're never going to get her!

This is definitely a terrible, stupid poem. I am trying to give a brief, comical glimpse inside my head when I am talking to a crush of mine. It's stupid, but I wanted to write it, and I hope the experience of writing this poem allows me to perfect my technique and learn to better pursue inspiration. As always, thank you for reading.

First come up with a catchy title
One that will draw the crowds
Throw in a bit of Mojo
A little pizzazz, a lot of Wow

Give it a twinge of what people want
A slight tweak of what people need
That can stand on it's on, slap them square in the face
How about you call it FREE MONEY!

Now that you have the hardest of parts
Tightly locked in place
It's time to spin the ultimate rhyme
One that will blow them all away

Throw in a little love for all the ladies
One or two car chases for Dad
So as not to leave anyone out
Dinosaur's and bunny rabbits for the kids

Now take it and mix it together
Slightly shaken but never stirred
Till you have them eating out of your hands
Devouring your every word

This will keep them coming back for more
They will always be waiting in line
For your next junket through
The world of mysterious rhyme

I hope that this has been helpful
And in a way has enlightened you
Now go out there Mr.and Miz Poet
There's a line outside waiting for you

His heart sings Lady Gouldian Finch
Rainbow brings Australian pinch
Of endangered colors multitude
Serenading down under longitude

Aviculturist marvels her spectrum
Heartstrings plucked by plectrum
Weaver wonder family Estrildidae
Aurora avian ambit sub Passeridae

How he adores you each and everyday
Sets his eyes towards Yinberrie Hills
Sorghum sprinkles to petite shrills
Your song, his song vivid dye fills

Certain pizzazz environmentalists thrill
Colored curtain draws on man’s will
I know a man singing Lady Gouldian
Join him now as nature’s guardian

The Lady Gouldian is also known as the parrot finch or rainbow finch.
